Chapter 31 – Distribution of Forces
Volume 2: Battlefield Between Two Worlds
After everyone had taken their seats, Zang Pengfei stood up at once and spoke loudly to the group.
"Today our Camp has welcomed honored guests. I won't bother with any welcome-and-thanks talk. Chaihe Town is short on supplies, so today I'll use tea in place of liquor-let me drink first as a sign of respect."
As soon as he finished speaking, Zang Pengfei lifted the scalding hot tea and downed it in one gulp.
Wen Yu's eyelids twitched. He really wanted to ask: Isn't that hot?
Seeing Zang Pengfei's men each put on a show of draining their cups, Li Quan'an and the others followed suit and drank theirs down in one go.
Wen Yu, instead, glanced at Zang Pengfei.
This guy really was rough on the outside but meticulous on the inside.
Wen Yu casually swallowed the tea. The water temperature was high, but to him there was no scalding sensation at all.
A Level 2 Class Holder's formidable physique made this kind of hot water-something Ordinary People could hardly get down-no different for Wen Yu than drinking bottled water.
This was Zang Pengfei testing Li Quan'an and the others' Physical Attribute.
After drinking the hot water, Li Quan'an was completely fine, but his subordinates were another story.
One of them barely managed to swallow it, only to stick out his tongue from the burn; the rest didn't dare to finish their cups at all.
The gap in strength was obvious at a glance.
A look of understanding flickered through Zang Pengfei's eyes. He ignored Li Quan'an's men and instead nodded at Li Quan'an, then spoke directly: "This big brother beside Wen Yu doesn't seem ordinary; he might be someone of note in Hualin Town, right?"
Li Quan'an laughed it off and said repeatedly, "You flatter me, you flatter me. From now on, our whole group will be relying on Fei-Ge."
Li Quan'an was also a seasoned operator; he understood that in an unfamiliar place, the most important thing was to keep a low profile.
Zang Pengfei nodded at Li Quan'an and didn't press further. He turned and sat down, then said to Wen Yu, "Meeting Brother Wen Yu today, this Old Brother here mainly wants to learn about Hualin Town's current situation."
"I heard Dalong say that on the way here, he already told you a lot. You probably have a rough understanding of the situation here. I want to ask first: can we pass through Hualin Town and head to Mudanjiang City?"
Zang Pengfei's expression was extremely serious. This concerned everyone's survival.
Wen Yu shook his head and said calmly, "It'll be very difficult. If you really insist on doing that, then aside from me and that Sun Aotian just now, the others have a very small chance of surviving."
There was no look of regret on Zang Pengfei's face. Sun Aotian had already experienced the power of the Mutated Vine, and Zang Pengfei himself had a general idea as well. He had only asked while still clinging to a sliver of hope.
And now, that hope was shattered by Wen Yu in one sentence. Next came facing reality.
Zang Pengfei motioned for a woman named Xiao Wen to fill everyone's cups, then said, "In that case, Brother Wen Yu and us-we're grasshoppers on the same rope."
Wen Yu took a sip of tea and nodded, waiting for what Zang Pengfei would say next.
"Then let me give you a detailed introduction to Chaihe Town's current situation."
After speaking, Zang Pengfei stood up and began pacing back and forth in the small room.
"At present, in Chaihe Town, aside from our Survivor team, there's another group of Survivors. They might be in Chaihe Town, or they might have escaped Chaihe Town by fleeing in the opposite direction. I hope they managed to get out-otherwise, they'll definitely have it even worse than we do."
"As for the situation in our Settlement-you saw it yourselves when you arrived, so I won't say much about that."
Li Quan'an and the others swallowed hard. Worse than this Camp-this was far beyond anything Li Quan'an had imagined.
"This is what humanity's situation in Chaihe Town looks like now."
Zang Pengfei paused, then continued.
"The biggest enemy we're facing is the Zombies currently entrenched in the town. Tian has already scouted it out: a Zombie Leader has appeared among the horde. Its strength hasn't reached Level 3, but it's still not something Tian can stand up to. The most crucial thing is that this Zombie can command the other Zombies."
"That means the enemy we're facing is no longer just a bunch of walking corpses, but a fearless Military."
"These Zombies have sealed off all of Chaihe Town. It's hard for us to get in, and those bastards come to harass us every few days. Each time, we take heavy casualties. If things keep going like this, even with the most optimistic estimate, within ten days we'll be wiped out to the last man."
After saying that, Zang Pengfei fixed his eyes on Wen Yu.
After hearing Zang Pengfei out, Wen Yu nodded lightly and said, "If I get the chance, I'll take a look at that Zombie King's strength. If it hasn't reached Level 3, I'm confident I can take it out."
Wen Yu was quite confident in his own strength.
The curiosity in Zang Pengfei's eyes grew thicker and thicker. This man-was he talking nonsense, or did he really have what it took?
"Oh, right." Wen Yu spoke up again.
"What about Mutant Creatures?"
A trace of helplessness flashed through Zang Pengfei's eyes. "They're all in the mountains nearby. That place is a Forbidden Zone. We don't know when they'll come out-we only know that once they do, everyone, humans and Zombies alike, will all die. They're not opponents we're qualified to face. To us, they're death itself."
After hearing Zang Pengfei's words, Wen Yu silently let out a sigh.
This was the kind of scene he was familiar with-the Apocalypse. Humans, whether in numbers or in quality, were no match for Mutant Creatures.
Fortunately, the infighting among Mutant Creatures was far more brutal and direct than anything humans could manage.
"Let's not worry about the Mutant Beast for now. Let's talk about the Zombies inside Chaihe Town first."
Wen Yu spoke plainly. Crises had to be dealt with one after another.
"Boss, Boss, something's happened-Ergang's been killed!!"
Zang Pengfei had just been about to speak, but was cut off by a subordinate who rushed in.
"What? What did you say?"
Zang Pengfei seemed not to have heard clearly.
"Boss," the man who came in said hesitantly, "Ergang is dead. He was killed."
This time Zang Pengfei heard it loud and clear. With the messenger's words, the air in the small room seemed to slowly congeal.
"What? Who the hell dared to kill Ergang? Who dared to kill a brother of mine, Zang Pengfei's!"
The killing intent on Zang Pengfei grew stronger and stronger as he roared at the top of his lungs. An enraged Zang Pengfei even made everyone present feel as if they were facing a maddened bear.
The messenger stammered, hesitating as he said, "It-it was Tian-Ge."
Crack.
A faint sound came from the teacup in Zang Pengfei's hand. The battered cup was crushed into fragments in his tightly clenched fist.
Zang Pengfei's face was ashen, and he ground out through clenched teeth.
"That Kid has gone too far!"
"Take me there!"
Ignoring the deathly silent crowd, Zang Pengfei barked a single order to the messenger and strode out of the room.
