Apocalypse Summoning Frenzy Volume 2 Chapter 42

Zombies Assault the Camp (Part ②)

Chapter 42 – Zombies Assault the Camp (Part ②)

Volume 2: Battlefield Between Two Worlds

"Prepare to set it on fire!"

With a loud shout from Zang Pengfei, the Class Holders not far away immediately lit the only defensive measure laid out at the Camp entrance-a deep trench filled with gasoline, straw, and the like.

As the flames danced, thick smoke and blazing fire cut off the Survivors' view.

With the oppressive presence of Zombies no longer right in front of them, everyone let out a small sigh of relief.

Then, from the other side of the flames, a burst of furious roaring suddenly rang out.

Two humanoid creatures flew straight over the fire. Their agile bodies kept adjusting in midair; as they dropped lower and lower, they finally landed on the ground on two feet, stomping out a huge crater!

Two Level 2 Zombie.

Sun Aotian didn't waste a word. He aimed at one of them and threw a punch. Zang Pengfei, meanwhile, activated a Skill against the other Zombie.

Slam (F-Rank active Skill): Enhancement to the damage of the next strike. This was a Warrior's beginner Skill.

Zang Pengfei was merely an ordinary Warrior, but his Physical Attribute had already reached the peak of a Level 1 Class Holder, and he clearly had a very solid foundation in hand-to-hand combat.

So if it came down to a desperate fight to the death, Zang Pengfei believed he wouldn't lose to Sun Aotian!

As the Level 2 Zombie engaged the two of them, the Zombie King on the far side of the fire didn't stay idle either. It flung Level 1 Zombie over one after another, like dumping dumplings into a pot – scattering them down over the heads of all the humans. Some Zombies, thrown with too much force, hit the ground and snapped their bones, unable to crawl up for a long time, only to have a nearby Class Holder slice off their neck with a single swing.

Other Zombies were hurled straight onto the bodies of Class Holders, smashing bones and breaking limbs. Ignoring the pain, the two sides grappled savagely on the ground.

Even more were flung onto the open ground. Before the Class Holders could step in to finish them off, the Zombies had already gotten back up and launched attacks on the humans!

Sun Aotian threw a punch. In close-quarters combat, the damage from Shockwave Fist was far from enough; it only forced the Zombie back a single small step.

Seeing Zang Pengfei struggling to hold on not far away, Sun Aotian grew increasingly anxious.

"This isn't looking good. Should I run first?"

That thought took root in Sun Aotian's mind. The situation was simply too unfavorable for the humans-there were dozens, even hundreds of times more Zombies than humans!

And in a fight you know will end in death, only a small minority can go to their deaths with resolve.

Just as Sun Aotian hesitated, a huge gray shadow suddenly sprang out from the direction of the Camp. It opened its jaws wide and bit down viciously on the Level 2 Zombie fighting Sun Aotian.

It was One-Eye.

Seeing One-Eye's sharp fangs and gaping maw, the Level 2 Zombie darted aside to avoid the bite – only to be sent flying by One-Eye's backhanded swipe.

The Zombie's body spun several times in midair. The moment it hit the ground, One-Eye charged again and clamped down on the Zombie's neck.

This time, the Zombie had no way to dodge.

With a crisp crack, its head separated from its body. This Zombie was dead!

Sun Aotian stared blankly at the One-Eye that had appeared out of nowhere. The opponent he could only barely keep the upper hand against had been dealt with by One-Eye in a matter of moments!

"So this is Wen Yu's summoned creature? He's already that strong himself, and he's even got a Big Dog this terrifying. Seriously…"

Sun Aotian had heard some rumors about that Big Dog that had shown up in the Camp during the day as well.

The jealousy in his eyes flashed past in an instant.

For someone suffering from protagonist syndrome, running into a person stronger than himself only made that jealousy all the heavier!

One-Eye ignored the complicated emotional turbulence coming from Sun Aotian not far away. He opened his big mouth and started eating right away. A Level 2 Zombie was a delicacy to a Level 2 One-Eye.

The few Level 2 Zombies from the morning had boosted One-Eye's Physical Attribute quite a bit.

"Sun Aotian, what are you staring at? Hurry over here and help me!"

Seeing One-Eye suddenly dart out and directly deal with Sun Aotian's opponent-and then seeing Sun Aotian standing there spacing out-Zang Pengfei, already injured, immediately shouted at Sun Aotian.

"Huh? Oh!"

Only then did Sun Aotian come to his senses. This wasn't a duel; it was a war between humans and Zombie. Taking down his own opponent meant victory in that fight, but not victory in the war!

He threw a punch straight from within Shockwave Fist's optimal range. The last remaining Level 2 Zombie couldn't withstand the tremendous force and was sent flying by Sun Aotian. Zang Pengfei immediately followed up, joining Sun Aotian to close in from both sides.

After finishing off Sun Aotian's opponent, One-Eye didn't launch another attack. While tearing and gnawing at the Level 2 Zombie's body on the ground, he cautiously sized up the huge figure that loomed indistinctly beyond the flames.

The Zombie King put enormous pressure on One-Eye!

When Zang Pengfei severed the Level 2 Zombie's neck with a vicious Slam, the two strongest human combatants present-Sun Aotian and Zang Pengfei-were completely freed up. They led the other Class Holders and swiftly routed the Zombies on the ground. The Zombie King also noticed that, on the other side, his last two elite subordinates were already dead, and he stopped the "adding dishes" move of throwing Zombies toward the Camp.

"Fei-Ge, what do we do now?"

Li Dalong, covered in blood, walked straight up to Zang Pengfei and asked.

Zang Pengfei looked at the Zombie horde flickering in and out of view on the opposite side and made up his mind.

"Let's go. We retreat."

If not for the barrier of flame, they would have been swallowed by the horde long ago-and the fire wall would burn out sooner or later.

More importantly, the width of the trench might not be enough to stop the Zombie King!

So retreating was the wisest choice for the Survivors at present.

As the Class Holders slowly backed away, the Zombie King on the opposite side finally made his move.

Fearing fire was an instinct shared by all animals. Although the Zombie King had gained intelligence, he still hadn't shaken off the predicament of low intellect.

Just now, the Zombie King had been waiting for the flames to die out-but how could he know that this defensive line was something Zang Pengfei had painstakingly prepared, with enough material inside to burn for several hours?

When he saw the humans on the other side trying to retreat, the Zombie King finally couldn't hold back!

"Roar."

A violent bellow carried into the ears of every Zombie behind him.

A simple, direct order-charge through!

Low-Level Zombie had no intelligence, and immediately obeyed the Zombie King's command without hesitation, hurling themselves into the fire pit one after another.

The fire pit had been dug deep and wide by Zang Pengfei. Under normal circumstances, a simple log bridge had been set up over it. But with the flames burning, the wooden bridge had long since been reduced to ash. Great numbers of Zombies leapt straight into the pit. At the Zombies' speed, it would take less than a minute to fill this fairly large-looking trench.

At the rear, the Zombie King nodded in satisfaction, and for the first time his not-so-clever brain raised a question to itself: "Why didn't I think of this earlier?"
