Chapter 73 – Compromise
Volume 2: Battlefield Between Two Worlds
Immediately after, Jiang Wentao pulled out another bottle of glowing red potion and handed it to Big Bear.
Then, he produced another bottle of the same Healing Potion…
"They're so damn rich!"
Wen Yu's eyes twitched as he watched the three of them curled up inside the Light Shield, chugging potions incessantly.
This was the financial power of the Military!
As high-ranking Military Warriors, they were equipped with all sorts of items. Looking at the small Spatial Rings on their fingers, Wen Yu couldn't even guess how many life-saving treasures were still tucked away inside.
As the three consumed bottle after bottle of potion, their injuries began to heal at an incredible speed.
Even Big Bear's arm, which had been bitten off, slowly began to regrow.
Seeing that Monkey had regained consciousness, Jiang Wentao spoke solemnly.
"Take those things out."
Monkey looked at One-Eye, who was relentlessly gnawing at the Bright Light Shield right in front of him, then at Wen Yu smoking a cigarette in the distance, and finally at Chu Ziling and William, who stood there with grave expressions, not daring to move an inch. His hand reached directly for his Spatial Ring.
"Damn it!"
Wen Yu cursed under his breath when he saw what Monkey pulled out.
It was a pile of cylindrical objects with a heavy sci-fi aesthetic. As it happened, Wen Yu recognized these things!
These were Plasma Grenades developed by the Military, capable of dealing devastating blows to any creature below Level 2!
In the future, these would be sold to Survivors as standard-issue weapons.
A single one could insta-kill a creature below Level 2. Wen Yu wasn't sure if One-Eye could withstand the sympathetic detonation of at least several hundred of these grenades.
This was a blatant threat.
Jiang Wentao's voice rang out, sounding very calm.
"Tell your dog to stop biting. This shield will disappear in ten minutes."
With that, Jiang Wentao picked up a Plasma Grenade from the ground, his thumb pressed firmly against the safety.
"We admit defeat, so we won't participate in the struggle for Pandora's Box anymore. However, we don't want to die!"
"These things are called Plasma Grenades. Given the number of grenades on the ground, even a creature below Level 4 wouldn't be able to escape their kill zone. If you want to kill us, we don't mind taking your dog down with us!"
Wen Yu let out a heavy breath and gave One-Eye a direct command.
"Come back, One-Eye. And bring the box back with you while you're at it."
Faced with Jiang Wentao's threat of mutual destruction, Wen Yu would never risk losing One-Eye just to force a kill on these few people.
"What about you two?"
Wen Yu's gaze swept toward Chu Ziling and William.
Chu Ziling shook his head with a bitter expression. The strength One-Eye had just displayed had left him completely despondent.
As long as Wen Yu had the intent to kill, Chu Ziling wouldn't last a second against One-Eye!
This was also why Chu Ziling hadn't run yet. Whether he lived or died didn't depend on his ability to flee, but on whether Wen Yu wanted him dead!
William stared intently at the scarred One-Eye and then at Wen Yu beside him.
He compared their strength to his own for a long moment before slowly shaking his head.
"I will no longer pursue Pandora's Box. However, I will remain here until the Second Phase of the Treasure Land begins. That isn't an unreasonable request, is it?"
Wen Yu took Pandora's Box from One-Eye's mouth and nodded at the group.
"It's not unreasonable. In fact, the opening of the Second Phase of the Treasure Land is already a foregone conclusion. I don't mind if you wait."
"But…"
Wen Yu glanced at Chu Ziling and William, a smile suddenly spreading across his face.
"You don't have any way to take me down with you, do you?"
The moment the words left his mouth, One-Eye's body surged into motion. With his 200+ Physical Attribute fully unleashed, he pounced once-just once-and slammed Chu Ziling to the ground before Chu Ziling could even react!
"What the hell are you doing?!"
Pinned down by One-Eye, Chu Ziling yelled in panic. But death didn't come.
Wen Yu strolled over at an unhurried pace, stopped beside Chu Ziling, then crouched down and studied him carefully.
"To collect your ticket fare. You didn't think I'd just let you tag along into the Second Phase and freeload, did you?"
As he spoke, Wen Yu extended his right hand.
"Hand over the Level 2 Magic Crystal you didn't finish absorbing. That'll be your ticket-and your buy-your-life money."
"You…?"
"Me what?"
Chu Ziling choked into silence.
"I'm not that greedy. Level 2 Magic Crystal is useless to you now, but it still helps me. If you were in my shoes, you wouldn't let a chance like this go either, right?"
Wen Yu spoke with a smiling calm, but Chu Ziling would never mistake that smile for kindness.
Chu Ziling took a deep breath. Between Level 2 Magic Crystal and his own life, it didn't take a genius to know which mattered more.
"Tell your dog to move. I'll pay."
"Mm."
Wen Yu flicked his hand. One-Eye immediately stepped back and released Chu Ziling.
Chu Ziling swiped his hand across his Spatial Ring, and a large pile of Level 2 Magic Crystal clattered to the ground.
"It's all yours."
The arrogance in his voice was so thick that, if someone didn't know the situation, they might have thought Chu Ziling was doing Wen Yu a favor.
Even Wen Yu couldn't quite understand what Chu Ziling still had to be proud of.
But would Wen Yu get angry? Of course not. Who would pick a fight with Magic Crystal?
Wen Yu bent down, picked up the Magic Crystal, and did a quick count.
"That's fine."
He smiled and nodded at Chu Ziling.
Chu Ziling had handed over a total of fifty-eight Level 2 Magic Crystal.
Looks like when Chu Ziling opened his sixth Pandora's Box, he got at least close to a hundred Level 2 Magic Crystal.
Which meant what William got from the seventh…
"Knight, you're up. Give me what you got from your seventh."
This time, there was no smile on Wen Yu's face.
William looked at Wen Yu steadily and slowly shook his head.
"That's my loot."
The Knight reached into his Spatial Ring and took out a doll.
"Scapegoat Doll (S-Rank item): When you suffer a fatal blow, this item triggers and fully restores all injuries on the Host."
"That's the Attribute. I'm not giving this to you-even if I end up using it myself."
Wen Yu looked William up and down for a long moment before speaking.
"Trade something else. Call it the ticket fare. Consider it doing my dog a favor-and doing Chu Ziling a favor too."
William pondered for a moment, then pulled a bottle of potion from his Spatial Ring.
"Advanced Healing Potion. To exchange it costs 2000 Point. More importantly, you can't exchange it yourself. Enough?"
"Fine."
Wen Yu didn't hesitate for even a second. With someone like William, Wen Yu's goal was simple: squeeze out whatever he could.
Because a person like this probably wouldn't accept threats.
And with the Treasure Box already within reach, Wen Yu had no desire to stir up more trouble.
