Chapter 113 – Supreme Powerhouses
Volume 3: Rising Winds and Clouds
Unfortunately for Claire, Fang Wenhai had not become the Outpost's commander-in-chief by being a man who could be seduced so easily without the aid of a Skill. If he had, Lin Haifeng would have needed to seriously reconsider his judgment of people.
Feeling her fingers tickle his chest, Fang Wenhai frowned and spoke in a stern voice.
"Miss Claire, I have long heard that people abroad greet one another differently than we do in Huaxia, but isn't your greeting a little too enthusiastic?"
His meaning was obvious: show some respect.
Claire remained unmoved, however, and continued batting her eyes at him.
Then another figure emerged from the Treasure Land entrance.
…
"Hi, bitch. See again. Wow, your chest got bigger." (From this point onward, the source no longer provides Chinese translations for English dialogue.)
The badly spoken English was followed by a burst of laughter from the Treasure Land entrance.
The crude words and hearty laughter instantly drew everyone's attention.
As the white light of Teleportation faded, a figure even more powerfully built than Cao Ling appeared at the entrance.
The man looked to be in his thirties. He wore nothing but a loose pair of beach shorts, and his half-naked body was covered in thick black hair. The Burly Man's solid, bulging muscles rippled with even his slightest movement, and his entire body radiated a wild aura.
Claire rolled her eyes when she heard the voice behind her. Then she quickly put on an enchanting smile and turned toward the Burly Man.
"Hi, Andrei. We meet again. It looks like your balls grew back."
Andrei's face stiffened at her words. Clearly, the two of them had shared some rather "wonderful" experiences in the past.
Fang Wenhai decisively interrupted before the subject could go any further.
"Friends from abroad, welcome to the Outpost Treasure Land. I don't think any of us should be focusing on things like balls and breasts right now. According to our intelligence, the Bipedal Lizard swarm is already close to the Outpost… Why don't I take you to see the situation first?"
Andrei nodded, his expression turning somewhat serious. Claire, on the other hand, gave Andrei an emphatic middle finger.
At that moment, two more figures flashed into view at the Treasure Land entrance.
…
When Fang Wenhai saw that one of them was a man carrying an ancient-style longsword, he slowly let out a breath.
By now, he had realized that these Sequence members did not take him, the commander-in-chief, seriously at all. Under the circumstances, the commander of the Outpost amounted to little more than a tour guide.
Without a powerhouse at his side, his words carried no weight. It was an awkward position.
Fortunately, the newly arrived swordsman solved that problem perfectly.
"Allow me to make the introductions. This is Yang Pengguang, one of our Military's powerhouses and Human Sequence 5. Sequence 2 and Sequence 3, who are also affiliated with our Military, are currently carrying out a mission inside this Treasure Land. Sequence 2 should return when the Bipedal Lizards launch their attack."
Sequence 5-Yang Pengguang-walked expressionlessly to Fang Wenhai's side and nodded to the three people before him.
Fang Wenhai continued.
"This is Miss Claire of the United States Military, Sequence 6."
The moment he finished, Claire gave Yang Pengguang an enchanting smile and spoke in a seductive voice.
"Just call me Claire. I adore handsome, icy men like you, Pengguang."
Yang Pengguang showed no particular reaction. He merely gave her a slight nod.
Andrei, standing to one side, introduced himself in a muffled voice.
"My name is Andrei. I belong to the Russian Military. Sequence 7."
Yang Pengguang studied Andrei carefully for a moment, and the faintest smile appeared at the corner of his mouth. The group then turned their attention to the person who had entered the Treasure Land alongside Yang Pengguang.
He was tall and slender, dressed in ordinary clothes, with delicate and attractive features. His prominent Adam's apple left no doubt about his sex.
He appeared to be under twenty and gave off an exceedingly pleasant impression.
Noticing the appraising looks directed at him, the young man grew nervous. He cleared his throat, bowed a full ninety degrees, and spoke in a somewhat androgynous voice.
"My name is Suzuki Masao. I am eighteen years old. Before the Apocalypse, I was an ordinary Japanese high school student. I now serve in the Japan Self-Defense Forces with the rank of colonel, and I am Human Sequence 9."
The overlong introduction left everyone feeling awkward. The same thought arose in all their minds: Who the hell cared what you did before the Apocalypse?
Suzuki Masao seemed to realize that he had killed the previously lively mood. When he raised his head, his face was so red it looked ready to bleed.
Fang Wenhai coughed twice at the sight and quickly spoke.
"Let's head to the front line first. Once we repel this wave, we can discuss our next mission."
The others nodded, temporarily acknowledging Fang Wenhai's authority as commander-in-chief of the Outpost Treasure Land.
…
A message from Fang Wenhai arrived over the communicator.
Reinforcements from the other countries had taken their positions at the Outpost. According to Fang Wenhai, with the new deployment and the number of Class Holders now present, defending the Outpost would no longer be difficult compared with the size of the approaching Bipedal Lizard swarm.
Wen Yu's objective was to intercept as many Demonic Creatures as possible and eliminate the high-level Bipedal Lizards.
In the distance, the Military's missiles and artillery began firing once more. Without the Demon Seed directing them this time, the Bipedal Lizards were a disorderly mob.
That suited Wen Yu just fine. With his three Soul Pets and the entire Shadow Assassin Squad, he circled behind the swarm and hunted without pause.
…
The battle erupted swiftly, but the gap between the two sides had narrowed to almost nothing.
Countless low-level Bipedal Lizards charged the Outpost without the slightest organization, only to be continuously slaughtered by the human soldiers.
With the four supreme powerhouses inside the Outpost hunting down every Level 5 Bipedal Lizard, the swarm could not even scale the walls before it was wiped out. The corpses were cleared away, and the defenders prepared to receive the next wave.
Under these conditions, the fighting was no longer a brutal offensive and defensive battle. It had become a tug-of-war centered on the Outpost. The Military's casualty ratio continued to fall, while the vast numbers of Bipedal Lizards became genuine training fodder as the human Class Holders underwent Promotion at astonishing speed.
