Chapter 122 – Exchange

Volume 3: Rising Winds and Clouds

There was a saying in Huaxia: authority unused was authority wasted.

Wen Yu now possessed the greatest authority in the entire Treasure Land. Naturally, the first thing that occurred to him was how to use that authority to bring himself the greatest possible benefit.

He had seen the daily rewards for defending the Outpost. Wen Yu had no interest in those Level 2 and Level 3 Magic Crystals.

His first idea for "using his authority," therefore, was to squeeze some resources and equipment from the Military.

Judging by Kuangliu's attitude, Wen Yu and the Military shared an unspoken understanding on the matter.

Sometimes, cooperation was nothing more than an exchange of benefits.

Such purely transactional relationships were often more reliable than partnerships bound by emotion. They also made men like Wen Yu far more comfortable.

After thinking briefly, Wen Yu spoke to Kaldor.

"Show me the exchange list for Demon Hunting Points."

…

A translucent Light Curtain appeared before Wen Yu. His current balance of Demon Hunting Points was displayed clearly at the bottom: 32.15 million.

In truth, even Wen Yu did not know how many Bipedal Lizards he had killed at the Outpost.

Combined with the Bipedal Lizards' method of reproduction, the Outpost Treasure Land had brought Wen Yu an astonishing harvest.

Wen Yu browsed the enormous quantity of items on the exchange list as he addressed Kaldor.

"I have so many Demon Hunting Points that I don't even know how to spend them. Why don't you give me some advice?"

Wen Yu had only meant it as a joke and a test. To his surprise, Kaldor actually offered several suggestions.

"Lord Sequence 2, your increased authority inside the Treasure Land has greatly expanded the range of items available to you. I have three items here that are particularly suitable for you and your Soul Pets. You may wish to examine them."

Kaldor waved a hand. Every entry on the exchange list vanished except three.

"This item is the best fit for your Soul Beast."

Kaldor pointed to a mirror-shaped object on the list.

Wen Yu looked over.

"Leiguhart Magic Mirror (SSS-Rank Item): Forged by a supreme powerhouse named Leiguhart from an unknown world. Possesses the ability to reveal the quality of a Skill that will be obtained after Promotion. This item is unique. Exchange cost: 20 million Demon Hunting Points."

"It's still that expensive at half price?"

Wen Yu could not help muttering when he saw the cost of the Leiguhart Magic Mirror.

Kaldor shook his head.

"It really isn't expensive, my lord. The Leiguhart Magic Mirror can help devise the most suitable Promotion plans for your Soul Beast and Soul Pets. It is extraordinarily rare. Most importantly, there is no limit to the number of people who may use it or the number of times it may be used."

Wen Yu immediately understood Kaldor's explanation.

In theory, the Leiguhart Magic Mirror was an item meant to serve a large organization. Using it for one person alone was indeed somewhat wasteful.

But…

Wen Yu did not care. Anything useful to him was a good item.

The Leiguhart Magic Mirror could ensure that his Soul Pets and Soul Beast obtained the most perfect Skills possible during Promotion. Under the restrictions imposed by the Level Shackles, the item's value was self-evident.

After hesitating for a long time, Wen Yu finally spoke to Kaldor.

"Next."

"This item is very well suited to your Second Soul Pet."

Smiling, Kaldor pointed to a Skill Scroll on the exchange list.

"High-Frequency Blade (A-Rank, Active Ability): Adds extremely high-frequency oscillations to the Host's attacks, greatly enhancing their offensive power. Exchange cost: 200,000 Demon Hunting Points."

"You have A-Rank Skills here?"

Wen Yu sounded surprised when he saw High-Frequency Blade.

When Wen Yu first viewed the exchange list, it had only displayed Skills at Rank C and below. He had not expected Kaldor to possess an A-Rank Skill.

"I have only a few A-Rank Skills, and their exchange authority is open exclusively to Sequence members. Each person may exchange for only one A-Rank Skill. Does this Ability satisfy you, Lord Sequence 2?"

"Very much."

Without another word, Wen Yu spent 200,000 Demon Hunting Points to acquire the Ability.

One-Eye's Ferocious Strike (Rank C, Active Ability) had indeed become something of a liability.

Then Wen Yu looked at the final item.

"Undead Rite (SS Rank, Special Item): Sacrifice a vast quantity of flesh offerings to resurrect one unit. The unit's soul will be preserved, but its body will be transformed into an undead being and all its Skills will be erased."

"Resurrection challenges the authority of the gods and will inevitably incur divine punishment. Use with caution."

"Exchange cost: 500,000 Demon Hunting Points."

Wen Yu frowned when he saw the item.

Kaldor smiled at his expression.

"My lord, this item is highly suitable for the Soul Master Class. The mental link between a Soul Master and a Soul Pet is extremely close. Based on past experience, the death of a Soul Pet inflicts a tremendous blow upon its Soul Master. There have even been cases where a Soul Master's mind collapsed completely after a Soul Pet died. A backup means of resurrection is therefore quite necessary. Wouldn't you agree?"

At Kaldor's inexplicable smile, Wen Yu's mind suddenly blurred. For an instant, he seemed to see himself amid mountains of corpses and seas of blood, clutching One-Eye's or Xing's dead body and sobbing in grief.

Wen Yu had never believed there was anything particularly special about him. Nor had he ever believed death would forever pass him by. Therefore…

"I'll take it. And the Leiguhart Magic Mirror as well."

…

The three items cost a total of 20.7 million Demon Hunting Points, leaving Wen Yu with 11.45 million.

He directly exchanged for the Black Book (Summoning Chapter) Scroll from Kaldor.

"Black Book (Summoning Chapter): Absorb souls and unleash the power of darkness. The Black Book's Summoning Chapter possesses the terrifying power to summon the dead. Exchange cost: 1.5 million Demon Hunting Points."

Wen Yu carefully stroked the tattered Scroll in his hand. The Black Book (Summoning Chapter)'s detailed properties appeared in his mind.

"Black Book (Summoning Chapter): Absorbs souls, which automatically form Soul Puppets within the Black Book. There is no limit to their number. Soul Puppets feed upon souls and undergo Promotion by consuming souls. When the user activates the Black Book, the Soul Puppets appear directly around the user and attempt to possess nearby living creatures or relatively intact corpses, thereby taking control of the target. The level of the controlled unit depends on the level of the Soul Puppet."

Wen Yu nodded in satisfaction after reading the Black Book (Summoning Chapter)'s properties.

The Soul Master Class opened one Soul Realm Space with every level, and each Soul Realm Space could contract only one Soul Pet. That meant a Soul Master could follow only an elite-focused path. The Black Book (Summoning Chapter), however, would provide Wen Yu with vast quantities of Cannon Fodder.

Wen Yu checked his remaining Demon Hunting Points: 9.95 million. He placed the newly acquired items inside his Spatial Ring and continued speaking to Kaldor.

"Do you have anything else suitable for me?"

Kaldor smiled and shook his head before reopening the exchange list.

The dazzling array of items on it left Wen Yu's head spinning.
