Chapter 147 – Ultimate Force
Volume 3: Rising Winds and Clouds
Lin Haifeng glanced at the daylight outside and couldn't resist.
"Morning's over. It's nearly lunchtime. And I never imagined this side of you… Our aloof heartthrob."
The teasing emphasis he put on those last words provoked a roar of laughter from the other end.
By the sound of it, more than five people were there.
"Stop laughing! Your Boss is trying to discuss business! Do you want to eat or not?"
Unfortunately, this "Boss" plainly lacked authority. Far from stopping, the laughter grew louder, with several more voices joining in.
"You absolute-! @$%!"
The man unleashed a string of curses. A second later, the laughter stopped.
"All right. I ran away. It's quiet now. Let's talk business."
…
Lin Haifeng gave him a quick account of the situation: the intelligence on the Demon Worship Cult, what they knew about Peng Jun, Sequence 5's betrayal, and Wen Yu and Kuangliu being trapped in a Treasure Land.
The "aloof heartthrob" was silent for a long time before replying.
"I'll take care of the Demon Worship Cult. I'll leave now. I should be back in Huaxia in eight hours."
Lin Haifeng considered that.
"Can your team come back too?"
A long silence followed, as though the man were thinking carefully. At last, he answered decisively.
"A few can. Several of my teammates aren't from Huaxia. We've finished what we came out here to do, and it's time to prepare for the Demon Disaster. They can't turn their backs on their own countries."
Lin Haifeng nodded.
"Of course."
"How about this? I'll send my teammates back first, give you a few strong reinforcements. Then I'll make my own way back to Huaxia and deal with Peng Jun. And Peng Jun is mine to handle personally."
"No problem."
"By the way, how's Vermilion Bird?"
"On the way to Modu Settlement."
"Then we're all set. I'll begin Teleportation now. The destination will be your office. Get ready to receive them."
"Wait."
Lin Haifeng interrupted him.
"What about Sequence 2 and Sequence 3?"
The man was quiet for a moment, then answered firmly.
"They should be fine. Level 5 Sequence holders are already on the Ruler's radar. It won't readily let people that strong die. But there are a few complications, things connected to the first wave of the Demon Disaster. I'll sort those out when I get back."
"That's a relief."
"Right. Be ready."
The call ended.
Lin Haifeng smiled and shook his head. He finished the last of his tea and watched the empty floor in front of his desk.
Less than a minute later, white light flashed there.
…
The glare made Lin Haifeng turn his head slightly. In the next instant, four figures appeared before him.
They weren't in good shape.
All four were on the floor, retching. This form of Teleportation clearly placed a considerable strain on the body.
Lin Haifeng quietly looked them over.
One was a tall woman in a small gray tank top and extremely short camouflage shorts. Her tanned skin gave her a healthy look.
Bent over on the floor, she was offering him a spectacular view of her ample cleavage.
Lin Haifeng silently averted his eyes and examined the others.
A Black man with gleaming dark skin, probably African, stood nearly two meters tall. His thick arms rivaled Lin Haifeng's thighs. Waves of fierce heat radiated from him, noticeably raising the temperature of the entire office.
His Physical Attribute was impressive. He had already shaken off most of the side effects of Teleportation. He grinned at Lin Haifeng, flashing white teeth, then took a pile of potions from his Spatial Ring. After drinking several himself, he began pouring them into his teammates' mouths.
Beside him was an Asian man dressed in ornate golden robes. His clothing suggested he was from Huaxia, though Lin Haifeng had no idea why his tastes were so "antique."
The last arrival was a little girl with delicate features.
She looked about ten. Even as she vomited, she clung tightly to an enormous teddy bear.
When the Black man brought a potion to her lips, she gave him a strained nod and drank it down.
…
"Phew… I'm alive again…"
At last, the tanned woman let out a heavy breath and slowly got to her feet. Paying no attention to her revealing neckline, she bounced twice on the spot, setting her breasts swaying.
Fortunately, Lin Haifeng was neither lecherous nor at an age to chase women. He simply nodded to her.
"I recognize the voice. You're my liaison, aren't you?"
She nodded and gave him a rather casual military salute.
"Zhang Ziping, Ultimate Force Squad, Sequence 33, reporting to Commander Lin!"
"And Commander Lin-is that offer of my own spy team still open?"
…
Lin Haifeng had not formed the Ultimate Force Squad, and it did not answer to him.
Strictly speaking, its Captain had approached him first. Only then had they established a partnership.
The squad's introductory gift had been Vermilion Bird.
Anyone who could give away a Divine Beast Species as a greeting possessed a level of power the Military could never have cultivated.
It was all the work of one man.
Sequence 1.
And it was one of Lin Haifeng's greatest trump cards.
…
"You can call this one Heizi. He doesn't talk much, and you wouldn't understand him if he did. Sequence 42."
Heizi was the Black man.
Lin Haifeng guessed he was here because he felt little attachment to his country-or perhaps had no country to call his own.
There were many people in Africa who came from traditional tribal communities. Such people were often formidable fighters and highly adaptable.
"I'm Qin Min, Sequence 8! No, I should say Sequence 7 now. Vice-Captain of the Ultimate Force Squad! Apparently the previous Sequence 7 died a couple of days ago."
"That's right. In the Outpost Treasure Land."
Lin Haifeng nodded, then turned to the last member: the little girl.
Clutching a furry teddy bear bigger than she was, she gave him a strained smile.
"My name's Yang Yu. I'm ten."
Then she took her bear and hid behind Heizi.
Zhang Ziping gave Lin Haifeng an apologetic smile.
"She suffered a lot when the Apocalypse first began. She's only close to the Captain and Heizi. Please don't mind her, Commander Lin. Oh, and Yang Yu is Sequence 39. How's that for reinforcements?"
