Chapter 149 – One Punch from Me Might Kill You
Volume 3: Rising Winds and Clouds
Unfortunately, the young man-Sequence 1-was not among them.
He blinked at Peng Jun, his voice returning to its earlier flippant tone.
Hopping down from the desk, he began pacing back and forth.
"It's not a question of who sent me. Well, actually, that's not quite right. The Will of Earth sent me!"
"Our Mother Planet told me you have something you shouldn't, and asked me to retrieve it."
"Something I shouldn't have? You mean this?"
Peng Jun laughed. He tore open his collar, exposing the Demon Realm Heart Fragment on his chest.
"This fell right in front of me when the Apocalypse began. If it's not mine, whose is it? Yours?"
Sequence 1 stopped pacing. He looked straight into Peng Jun's eyes and nodded firmly.
"It was meant for me in the first place. So you're absolutely right!"
Peng Jun snorted.
"You're a funny man."
Sequence 1 nodded in agreement. "Everyone who knows me says so."
His sheer shamelessness cut off everything Peng Jun had been about to say.
Peng Jun quietly fastened his collar. Looking at Sequence 1's face, he asked one final question in a calm voice.
"So you won't leave today without taking my life?"
"Correct!"
Peng Jun wasted no further words. He clenched his fists, and the black Giant Eagle on his shoulder abruptly swelled in size.
Judging by his aura, Peng Jun was already as strong as a Level 5 Class Holder. With his Demon Seed nature added to that, his combat ability might not fall far short of Kuangliu's. And with the Demon Worship Cult's new Sacred Beast-the black Giant Eagle-beside him, the power at his disposal was considerable.
This was his greatest trump card.
His own strength.
The only response he received, however, was a single sentence.
"You really want to fight me? One punch, and you might not have a life left."
Then a surge of black energy struck Sequence 1 square in the face.
…
One minute later, the office door opened. Sequence 1 strolled out.
He looked completely at ease. Even his clothes were barely creased.
As he walked, he gently shook the two black cylinders in his hands. The clear tinkling from within blended into a pleasing little symphony.
He closed Peng Jun's office door and smiled at the two guards outside.
They stared back in alarm and confusion.
They had been guarding this door the entire time. Neither had ever let this man inside.
Which meant…
"Stop! What are you doing here?"
Sequence 1 looked back at them and replied without hesitation.
"Making a delivery. Didn't I tell you that already?"
"Did… did you?"
The guards exchanged a glance.
"I think… he did…"
They still looked suspicious, yet neither asked anything more. It didn't even occur to them to wonder whether couriers were allowed into a restricted military area. They simply watched him amble away as though he were out for a stroll.
"Oh, by the way!"
He hadn't gone far before he turned back.
"You should check on General Peng. The old man was clutching his chest. Looked like a heart attack."
He resumed walking, rambling as he went.
"Once you get old, all sorts of things go wrong. Your head gets muddled, your heart gives out. That's why you should do what you want while you're young. Get a few thrills. Otherwise, when you're old…"
He continued his aimless chatter as he headed downstairs.
Everyone along the way behaved as though they could neither see nor hear him. He wandered freely through the restricted military area and slowly disappeared from sight.
…
The two guards exchanged a look.
"Did someone come by just now?"
The other shook his head firmly.
"Then why do I feel like somebody told me General Peng was having a heart attack?"
His companion thought hard before answering uncertainly.
"I feel like I heard that too. Strange. Nobody's been here."
"Should we… check?"
They had served Peng Jun ever since he first had guards. They were his most trusted men and knew his medical history.
He did have heart disease. But he hadn't suffered another attack since becoming a Class Holder.
Who knew, though, whether having Changed Class actually cured heart disease?
Neither could be sure.
After some discussion, they knocked on the office door.
No answer.
Remembering the words they seemed to have heard from nowhere, they exchanged a glance, quickly pulled open the door, and looked inside.
Peng Jun lay quietly on his desk, both hands resting against his chest. His face was pale, yet remarkably peaceful.
The black Giant Eagle had shrunk back to its miniature form and lay motionless beside him. The Black Crystal on its head was gone, leaving a hideous round hole that did not bleed.
Peng Jun was dead.
Killed by Sequence 1.
In just one minute, Sequence 1 had killed both him and the Giant Eagle Demon Seed, removed their Demon Realm Heart Fragments, and even taken the trouble to arrange their bodies.
…
"Hello. Peng Jun's dead."
With that brief statement, Sequence 1 announced both his return and the completion of his task to Lin Haifeng.
Silence came from the communicator, followed by Lin Haifeng's voice.
"Then come back."
"By the way, Peng Jun put all his preparations into motion before he died. Everything all right on your end?"
Lin Haifeng fell silent again. Then he seemed to aim the communicator's microphone out the window.
Faint explosions came through.
"It started a few minutes ago. I don't know whether everything's all right. But I think you'd better come back and protect me. Otherwise, there's a chance that partner you worked so hard to find might get himself killed."
"Oh, right, right. You know how much I hate leaving things to chance. Give me ten minutes!"
Sequence 1 ended the call. His body seemed to turn into a streak of light as he shot toward Yanjing Settlement.
