Chapter 36 – I Can Let You Live Like a Human
Volume 3
Only after everyone had left the conference room did Wan Ping finally rub his aching head.
After Wan An's vengeful spirit had been used up, Wan Ping could clearly feel that his thoughts had become much clearer.
"Maybe Xiao'an's body had just been dead for too long."
That was the only explanation Wan Ping could come up with.
A long while later, as if something had occurred to him, Wan Ping rose and left the conference room.
Outside the door, two of Guan Tao's former trusted subordinates were standing there, waiting for Wan Ping.
To most of these people, it honestly did not matter who became Boss. As long as they could get benefits, that was enough…
Wan Ping nodded to the two of them, then headed straight for Guan Tao's old office.
"Right."
As if something had suddenly come to mind, Wan Ping turned to look at the two subordinates still standing where they were.
"Do you remember when I had you look for a Class Holder with a small black ball on his shoulder?"
The two subordinates exchanged glances. After a moment, one of them said, "We remember that, but didn't word already come back?"
Wan Ping nodded.
"Bring back the person who sent that message. I want to see him."
Only after seeing the two subordinates nod did Wan Ping leave.
…
In Central City, the communications officer had connected the call with Yanjing early on.
When Wen Yu and Xiao Xue walked into the room, Kuangliu was already sitting on the other side of the screen.
Wen Yu sat down in front of the screen, greeted Kuangliu first, then went straight to business.
"Xiao Xue's operation to subdue Simba failed. Some unexpected circumstances came up. Xiao Xue will explain the details to you in a moment. I heard there's news about Sun Xuewei?"
Kuangliu nodded.
"Sun Xuewei has been found. She's with a team in the city made up entirely of female Class Holders. I've already sent people to make contact with them, but she herself isn't very willing to join the military."
Hearing the news about Sun Xuewei, Wen Yu said to Kuangliu, "Send people to keep an eye on her for now. Don't let Sun Xuewei leave the city for the time being. Wait until I get there. I should be setting out within the next two days."
"No problem."
Kuangliu nodded, indicating that such a small matter could be handled casually.
"Then, see you in a few days."
"See you in a few days."
After Wen Yu finished speaking, he immediately got up from his seat, turned, and left the Communications Room.
Seeing Wen Yu leave, Xiao Xue, who could hardly wait any longer, quickly sat down in front of the screen and began telling Kuangliu everything that had happened over the past few days.
That included Wen Yu's strength, the appearance of the Demon Worship Cult, and all sorts of other scattered topics…
…
Wen Yu and Wang Zhigang stood outside the building, each with a cigarette in his mouth, constantly puffing smoke into the air.
"You're leaving?"
It was Wang Zhigang who spoke first.
Wen Yu nodded.
Although Mudanjiang City was his hometown, the surrounding Mutant Beast and Zombie population simply could not provide the Magic Crystal and Point he needed for Promotion.
Here, his strength would completely stagnate. Staying instead of leaving would be nothing more than wasting his own life.
Wang Zhigang did not think that deeply about it. Seeing Wen Yu admit that he was about to leave Mudanjiang City, he immediately said, "Then tonight, how about we see you off?"
"Hah."
Wen Yu exhaled a heavy cloud of smoke and shook his head.
"Forget it. There's not much time left anyway. Once I take care of a few small things, I'll be leaving. No need to go through all that trouble."
Hearing Wen Yu's words, Wang Zhigang instead smiled.
"You probably don't have running water at home, do you? And those clothes of yours need changing again…"
Only after hearing Wang Zhigang's words did Wen Yu finally notice the state of his own personal hygiene.
The battle earlier had not caused Wen Yu any real injuries, but the dust and sand that had filled the battlefield were no illusion.
It was not just Wen Yu's clothes. Even One-Eye and Star were covered head to toe in gray dust.
Wang Zhigang continued, "Also, about the information you asked me to look into earlier, I've already arranged for people to handle it. We'll have news by tomorrow morning at the absolute latest. So I think you should wait here for a day."
Wen Yu gave a wry smile and shook his head.
"Fine. Looks like you've convinced me."
…
In the office that had originally belonged to Guan Tao, Wan Ping sat in Guan Tao's chair, staring straight at the Class Holder his men had brought in.
"What was your name again?"
The Class Holder stood there timidly, lips trembling as he stammered, "I… My name is Ye Nan."
"Mm. Ye Nan, right? I heard Wen Yu lives right next door to you people?"
Ye Nan hesitated, then nodded.
He had been scavenging in the city when Wan Ping's men found him and dragged him straight here.
Naturally, Ye Nan had no idea why Wan Ping wanted to see him.
"By the way, do you have anyone else at home?"
The moment Ye Nan heard the question, his whole body jolted.
Everything he had experienced after the Apocalypse had left him deeply afraid and wary of questions like that.
Seeing the fear and tension on Ye Nan's face, Wan Ping smiled faintly.
Then…
Wan Ping's right hand slapped Ye Nan across the face.
The enormous force knocked Ye Nan to the floor on the spot. A clear palm print appeared on his cheek. Ye Nan coughed twice and spat out a slightly yellowed tooth.
"I am asking you a question!"
"I… I have a wife… and a child…"
Satisfied with the answer, Wan Ping nodded, then turned and sat back down in the soft executive chair.
"With how weak you are, it must be hard to support a wife and child by scavenging, right?"
Ye Nan nodded shakily.
Partly because the injury on his face was throbbing with pain, and partly because he was terrified of Wan Ping.
Terrified that Wan Ping would hurt his wife and child…
Wan Ping fell silent for a long while before suddenly speaking.
"I'm giving you a chance. A chance to change your fate!"
Seeing Ye Nan raise his head in surprise, Wan Ping smiled faintly and took a small transparent plastic bag from his Spatial Ring.
He shook it slightly, and the white powder inside shifted gently.
"Go back. Find an opportunity to invite Wen Yu to a meal, then add what's in here to the food."
Wan Ping stood up and reached the slightly hunched Ye Nan in two steps. He grabbed Ye Nan's hand and stuffed the small plastic bag directly into his palm.
"Remember, as long as you succeed, I can let you live like a real person!"
Watching Ye Nan nod with difficulty, Wan Ping laughed in satisfaction, then said to the Class Holder guarding the door, "Go. Get this… mister a bottle of Healing Potion, and bring him some extra supplies too."
After giving the order, Wan Ping looked at the hesitation and struggle in Ye Nan's eyes and slowly said, "Consider these things an advance investment. As long as you pull this off, everything, absolutely everything, will be yours!"
"But if you fail…"
Wan Ping looked at Ye Nan without finishing the sentence.
"Go back and get it done."
Ye Nan hesitated for a moment, but in the end, he turned and left the room.
After Ye Nan was gone, Wan Ping reclined in the chair, constantly rubbing his temples.
A long while later, as if something had occurred to him, Wan Ping stood up and took a bottle of transparent liquid from his Spatial Ring. He poured it directly over himself, then jumped out of the room through the window and headed off into the distance.
