Chapter 55 – This Is Just a Transaction
Volume 3: Rising Winds and Clouds
After Wen Yu and his two pets finished collecting the Spatial Rings scattered across the floor, the Barrier still had not disappeared.
Wen Yu raised his wrist and checked his mechanical watch.
Only five minutes had passed since the Barrier was activated.
He lit a cigarette. The corpses strewn across the floor did not stir the slightest emotion in him.
In Wen Yu's eyes, people like these "boring politicians" and "parasites on humanity" were no different from the Demonic Creatures and Mutant Creatures that had died by his hand.
With the cigarette between his lips, Wen Yu stepped over Old Master Fang's corpse and walked straight toward the two Puppets beside the banquet hall.
He slowly reached out and ran his hand over the strange patterns on the Steel Puppets. At the same time, a Notification Tone sounded in his mind.
"Steel Puppet (Rank B item): A humanoid metal Puppet crafted by a magical civilization. It possesses 200 Points of Physical Attribute, is immune to most energy attacks, and is highly resistant to physical damage. Requires a Level 3 Magic Crystal for activation."
Wen Yu had already found the control device for the two Puppets in Old Master Fang's pocket.
Now, as he examined the Attributes of the Steel Puppets, a glint flashed through his eyes.
These two Puppets told Wen Yu a great deal.
For instance, Old Master Fang might have guessed long ago that Lin Haifeng would move against the Aristocratic Families. Yet instead of fighting to the bitter end, he had willingly submitted to execution.
These two Puppets might not have caused Wen Yu much trouble, but under normal circumstances, they were already capable of contending with a Level 4 Class Holder. Yet Old Master Fang had chosen not to use them.
Perhaps deep down, the old man had still held fast to the principles of a veteran revolutionary and the bottom line expected of a leader of a Country.
There was also another conclusion to be drawn: the Yanjing Settlement truly possessed no shortage of valuable treasures. If the Aristocratic Families had things like these, then the Military was certain to have some as well.
"Such deep reserves…"
Wen Yu sighed inwardly.
This was the difference between the power of an organization and that of an individual.
Wen Yu might possess enough strength to stand above every Class Holder on Earth, but compared to these powerful organizations, he was still lacking far too much.
Slowly shaking his head, Wen Yu cast those thoughts aside. After examining the two Puppets a little longer, he casually pulled over a chair and sat down beside them.
Wen Yu had no intention of handing these two Puppets over to Lin Haifeng.
…
Another five minutes slowly passed. The blue Light Curtain outside grew paler and paler until it was nearly transparent. Then, with a soft pop, it shattered like a balloon.
This meant that Wen Yu's Spatial Lockdown Device had expired.
The instant the Light Curtain shattered, the sounds from outside flooded clearly into the banquet hall.
Battle cries, anguished screams, and even the thunder of Guns and artillery fire intertwined, informing every Survivor in the Yanjing Settlement that the wind was rather noisy tonight.
Wen Yu paid no attention to the commotion outside. In his eyes, the remnants of the Aristocratic Families had no chance of contending with Lin Haifeng.
Old Master Fang's attitude alone made that clear. As the Leader of the Aristocratic Families, he must have realized what Lin Haifeng intended, yet he had done nothing in response to Lin Haifeng's purge.
Perhaps he had been considering the greater good. Or perhaps he had simply believed that the difference in strength was too great for resistance to matter.
Either way, in Wen Yu's estimation, if Lin Haifeng could not even bring the Yanjing Settlement under control after all this, then his title of Commander-in-Chief was truly wasted on him. Wen Yu himself would also have to reconsider his partnership with the Military.
Tuning out the sounds outside, Wen Yu began carefully inspecting the Spatial Rings they had collected.
First came the F-Rank Spatial Rings. Each had an interior measuring one meter by one meter by one meter, and there were more than a dozen of them.
Wen Yu went through them one by one, picking out anything he could use.
Of course, politicians used Spatial Rings rather differently from Wen Yu.
Instead of food and water, theirs were filled with precious metals, diamonds, and stacks of crisp new banknotes.
There were also all kinds of clothes…
After rummaging through them for quite a while, Wen Yu finally found three things he wanted.
Three protective items.
Unfortunately, they were too low-grade. They were only suitable for Class Holders below Level 3 and would be no help whatsoever against the enemies Wen Yu currently faced!
He casually set the three items aside, then examined the three E-Rank Spatial Rings in his hand, each with an interior measuring three meters by three meters by three meters.
This time, there was considerably more inside. Wen Yu found at least a dozen protective items, three of which were effective for Level 4 Class Holders!
Finally, Wen Yu turned his attention to Old Master Fang's Spatial Ring.
Spatial Ring (C-Rank Item): Interior dimensions: ten meters by ten meters by ten meters.
The rank of this Spatial Ring alone was enough to satisfy Wen Yu.
When he opened it, the sheer variety of items inside was almost overwhelming.
There were more than a dozen defensive items designed to withstand attacks from Level 4 Class Holders. Used together, they could hold one off for dozens of minutes. There were even two items capable of protecting against Level 5 Class Holders.
Of course, that was merely how Wen Yu rated protective items. After all, he himself could easily unleash attacks on par with an ordinary Level 5 Class Holder!
Wen Yu emptied Old Master Fang's Spatial Ring, scattering all kinds of miscellaneous items across the banquet hall. Then he took everything out of his old Spatial Ring and transferred it piece by piece into the new one.
A fragment of the Black Book, the Dark Divine Light Skill Scroll, some potions and food, and a small piece of the Vines collected in Hualin Town.
Now, he also had a sizable collection of protective items.
Wen Yu nodded in satisfaction, then stored the two Puppets behind him inside the Spatial Ring as well.
The two of them might not be of much use to Wen Yu now, but they would certainly prove effective if he ever needed them to cover his retreat.
After taking a quick inventory of his current assets, Wen Yu nodded, fairly satisfied.
He would never go out of his way to obtain external aids like these, but having them was better than not.
After all, Wen Yu was a pragmatist through and through!
…
The clamor of approaching footsteps grew louder outside. After listening carefully, Wen Yu identified exactly who was coming.
He instructed One-Eye and Xing1 to assume their miniature forms, straightened slightly in his seat, and waited for the people outside to enter.
Less than a minute later, Lin Haifeng was the first to enter the wrecked banquet hall, followed by Kuangliu and Fang Wenhai.
Several fully armed Warriors followed behind them. One of them was carrying a Class Holder over his shoulder.
Judging by the man's appearance, he was probably one of the people Wen Yu had encountered with Fang Yuan at the restaurant a few days ago.
"Is it done?"
Wen Yu nodded and replied, "I didn't leave a single survivor."
Satisfied with his answer, Lin Haifeng nodded, walked up to Wen Yu, and bowed slightly.
"On behalf of the entire Yanjing Settlement, I thank you for what you did today. Your actions have changed the balance of power among all the Survivors in Huaxia."
Wen Yu shook his head slightly.
"To me, it was just a transaction. An ordinary job. Nothing more than a very simple massacre."

- Xing(星): The Chinese name Xing (星) literally means "star," which is why this character was referred to as Star in earlier chapters. Xing and Star refer to the same character. The two names may appear interchangeably in earlier chapters, but Xing will be used consistently from this point onward.
