Chapter 150 – The Clash of the Virus
“What is this?”
Ling Mo used his short knife to pry out the object from the bloody snake head, then carefully removed the excess debris with the tip of the knife.
To Ling Mo’s surprise, it was a virus gel!
Although small, the crystal-clear, gem-like block was indeed formed by the virus’s condensation.
This indicated that the python before him was not only infected by the virus but also managed to withstand its invasion, undergoing a complete mutation.
The fact that there was a virus gel in its head suggested that its level of evolution was at least on par with a Mutation Zombie.
Perhaps the animal’s instincts were still intact, as it dared to attack an Advanced Zombie, showing far more courage than a Mutation Zombie.
Maybe the hierarchy suppression among zombies didn’t affect the Mutation Snake.
This discovery left Ling Mo in awe. It took him a moment to snap out of his shock as he asked, puzzled, “How could this snake appear in the city? Did it crawl in from the wild? But there shouldn’t be any pythons near X City…”
At this point, Ye Lian furrowed her brows and thought for a while before speaking uncertainly, “Zoo… the zoo…”
“Zoo? There’s a zoo nearby?” Ling Mo was initially stunned, then remembered seeing a bus stop named ‘X City Zoo’ on a sign earlier.
No wonder… But how did this snake escape from the zoo? Such a large python couldn’t have just been left in an open snake pit, right?
Considering the chaos when the disaster first broke out, it seemed anything was possible.
“So, there might be more Mutation Beasts around here? No wonder there are so few zombies…”
Ling Mo suddenly felt a chill down his spine. Zombies relied on their numbers, but Mutation Beasts were different.
A single Mutation Snake dared to attack an Advanced Zombie and even succeeded in a sneak attack. If more Mutation Beasts appeared, it would certainly be a very tricky situation.
In any case, without any consciousness, the size and hunting instincts of Mutation Beasts were far superior to human zombies.
Fortunately, animals that are too small can’t withstand the Virus; they would just explode and rot away. Otherwise, a few Mutation Scorpions or tiny venomous snakes could spell disaster.
It seems this path isn’t as peaceful as it appears; danger lurks beneath the surface.
After putting away the Virus Gel, Ling Mo frowned and looked over at Li Yalin.
Her eyes were wild and frenzied after being bitten, as if she could lose control at any moment.
“Senior Sister?” Ling Mo reached out, trying to grab Li Yalin’s wrist to check her wound, but she abruptly stepped back, eyeing him with a look full of aggression.
Due to the Psychic Link, she didn’t actually attack, but Ling Mo could see that her ferocity as an Advanced Zombie was fully triggered. Coupled with his own severe Psychic Power depletion, it was becoming difficult to keep her under control.
Seeing Li Yalin’s hostile expression, a surge of anger shot through Ling Mo!
“I’m not trying to assault you; I just want to check your wound! And frankly, you’re just a Zombie Puppet to me, so why are you so defiant?!”
Constantly showing an aggressive stance is unacceptable!
Ling Mo originally intended to gradually take full control over Li Yalin using the “boiling frog” method, but now she seemed to be trying to rebel. This instantly crossed his bottom line.
As soon as Li Yalin’s resistance began to surface, Ling Mo’s Psychic Tentacles wrapped around her completely.
The immense Psychic pressure caused a moment of confusion in Li Yalin’s eyes, but they soon turned even more blood-red!
It felt as if something was forcibly drilling into her brain, a sensation that any creature with even a bit of consciousness wouldn’t be able to endure.
Now it was a battle of Psychic Power. Ling Mo had already expended a lot of his Psychic Power today and had just overextended it to block the Mutation Snake’s sneak attack. He felt like he could black out any second, but his frustration fueled a sudden surge of determination!
Unable to control a female zombie, all his efforts in training his psychic power and Puppet Control Ability over the past months would be nothing but a joke!
Previously, Ling Mo had refrained from forcefully manipulating Li Yalin, trying to preserve her strength and avoid causing any Psychic damage. But now, facing an Advanced Zombie eager to attack him, Ling Mo’s ruthlessness surfaced. Better to have a fool by his side than a ticking time bomb ready to kill him at any moment.
Though this was a worst-case scenario, Ling Mo was psychically prepared for it.
“Senior Sister, you forced my hand…”
Even though his Psychic Power was depleted, Ling Mo’s skill in manipulating Psychic Tentacles was exceptional. After honing his technique, he could now focus intensely, almost suffocating Li Yalin with the pressure. Her Psychic Light Cluster twisted wildly, but Ling Mo’s Psychic Tentacles, instead of being shaken off, exploited every weakness, penetrating deeper into her psychic world.
If Li Yalin continued to resist, she would inevitably suffer from psychic disarray due to Ling Mo’s forceful control, possibly reverting to a mindless state.
However, she seemed to be triggered by something, convulsing a few times before decisively rolling her eyes and fainting.
Just as she lost consciousness, Ling Mo’s Psychic Tentacles seized the unresisting moment, delving deep into Li Yalin’s mind!
At this moment, Ling Mo finally gained true control over Li Yalin. She would no longer have any chance to resist… Suppressing his inner joy, Ling Mo quickly stepped forward to check on Li Yalin. Upon closer inspection, he couldn’t help but frown again.
He initially thought Li Yalin had fainted from the Psychic shock, but it wasn’t entirely the case.
Her wrist wound had started bleeding with normal-colored blood, but the Mutation Snake’s venom was incredibly potent. Her wrist was severely swollen, and her breathing was labored.
“Are you kidding me? I just gained control, and now this…”
Ling Mo cursed inwardly. He had overextended his last bit of Psychic Power to subdue Li Yalin, and now he was faced with this situation?
He had no idea what species this snake had been before mutating, or if it had been venomous. But speculating now was pointless. Even if he could find antivenom, who knows if it would work on a Mutation Snake? The Virus had already fused with the blood of Mutation Beasts and zombies, and who could predict what kind of terrifying toxin this combination had produced?
Clearly, the most dangerous aspect of this Mutation Snake wasn’t its size or speed, but its venom.
Ling Mo felt a mix of relief and frustration. He was glad he had blocked the snake’s sneak attack and avoided being bitten, but now he was faced with the problem of Li Yalin.
To be honest, if Li Yalin died, he would feel some regret and pity, but not deep sorrow. They were merely former schoolmates with no real connection.
In the Apocalypse, encountering someone familiar was rare, so Ling Mo naturally treated her differently than an ordinary Zombie Puppet. Moreover, she was a powerful Advanced Zombie.
He had just expended significant effort to fully control her, and it would be a waste if she died immediately.
“No choice, we need to find a place to rest. If Senior Sister doesn’t make it, there’s nothing we can do.”
Ling Mo hesitated before speaking.
Inside Li Yalin’s body, a battle between viruses was likely taking place. It was a question of whether the high-purity Virus in her blood and flesh was stronger, or if the Mutation Snake’s venom was more potent.
Seeing that Ling Mo didn’t immediately abandon Li Yalin, Xia Na pouted in displeasure. She didn’t understand the value of an Advanced Zombie as a Zombie Puppet.
Ye Lian, on the other hand, willingly helped Ling Mo carry Li Yalin. They left the snake’s corpse behind, knowing it would soon attract zombies that would devour it completely.
