Chapter 152 – The Battle with the Giant Python
For some reason, when Li Yalin woke up, Ling Mo felt she was no longer just a simple Advanced Zombie.
In her eyes, Ling Mo could vaguely see the shadow of that Mutation Snake.
But what exactly was that venom? It was impossible to know. Therefore, no matter what changes happened to Li Yalin, it didn’t seem surprising.
The unknown is always the most variable and unexpected.
Li Yalin’s sudden awakening seemed to be driven by some premonition; even Ling Mo sensed a slight chill.
Was it outside the door or in the hall?
Seeing Li Yalin concealing her presence, Ling Mo quickly came to full alert as well. He stood up slowly, gripping his Short Knife.
It was then that he noticed Ye Lian and Xia Na having the same reaction as Li Yalin.
As Advanced Zombies, though they didn’t sense the danger as quickly as Li Yalin, they still felt something.
“What is it?” Ling Mo asked softly.
If it were another Advanced Zombie, they shouldn’t be this nervous… Li Yalin looked back at Ling Mo and slowly shook her head, indicating she wasn’t sure.
After a moment of hesitation, she spoke, “It feels…like…I’m a little scared…”
Something that could make Li Yalin scared? Could it be some kind of Senior Zombie that is stronger than an Advanced Zombie?
But Xia Na shook her head at this moment. She quietly moved closer to Ling Mo and whispered in his ear, “Although your Senior Sister feels afraid, Ye Lian and I don’t feel anything, just some danger. But with the four of us here, there’s nothing to fear.”
So it wasn’t a Senior Zombie? For some reason, Ling Mo felt a bit disappointed.
He had always been curious about what types of zombies existed above Advanced Zombies, so he couldn’t help but have some hidden expectations.
Though it would be very dangerous, encountering one sooner would allow him to be prepared earlier.
Moreover, at this stage, such a Senior Zombie shouldn’t be too much stronger than an Advanced Zombie… But judging by Xia Na’s reaction, it was likely a superhuman or perhaps… a Mutation Beast?
With this thought, Ling Mo nodded to Li Yalin, signaling her to investigate.
Li Yalin seemed to regain all her strength after awakening, likely due to the Venom triggering her body’s full potential.
Receiving Ling Mo’s command, Li Yalin, now under deep Control, moved without hesitation. She dashed forward silently to the door and grabbed the doorknob.
Watching Li Yalin’s stealthy movements, Ling Mo finally understood why she had been able to sneak up on him before.
She was practically like a shadow!
Moreover, Ling Mo felt she was akin to a superhuman. Although she didn’t have an unexpected ability like a superhuman, her body’s continuous evolution had turned her body itself into a form of “superpower”!
Amidst this tense atmosphere, Li Yalin opened the door with a soft “click” and stuck to the wall like a shadow.
No reaction; there seemed to be nothing outside the door.
It looked like the threat was coming from somewhere inside the building… Li Yalin waited cautiously for a few seconds before darting out. Ling Mo immediately switched his view to her perspective while his Main Body followed closely behind, with Xia Na and Ye Lian in tow.
Since whatever was out there could instill fear in Li Yalin, it must be quite troublesome. She wouldn’t be able to handle it alone.
However, just as Ling Mo poked his head out, he suddenly felt an enormous sense of imminent danger!
His Psychic Power was extremely sharp, and after a night’s recovery, it had mostly returned to its normal level. So, almost the instant danger appeared, he sensed it!
A dark figure suddenly leaped from the ceiling, aiming straight for Ling Mo.
Sensing the peril, Ling Mo used his Psychic Tentacles to hinder the attacker’s movement, while simultaneously using another Psychic Tentacle to “grab” the door beside him and forcefully push it open.
“Crash!”
The glass pane on the door shattered instantly, sending shards flying everywhere.
Even the hard parts of the door were smashed into a large hole, and the dark figure, misjudging its aim, landed on the ground.
Using Li Yalin’s vision, enhanced by the zombies’ night vision, Ling Mo clearly saw the true form of the dark figure.
It was a giant snake… its body as thick as a woman’s thigh, with a flat snake head and a much larger protrusion on its head than the one he had seen before.
Its red eyes glinted coldly in the darkness, and its enormous body coiled up while it raised its head high, staring straight at Ling Mo.
“Why did it target me first?!”
Ling Mo cursed inwardly. He had assumed that if any danger occurred, Li Yalin, who was leading the way, would bear the brunt of it.
With her strength as an Advanced Zombie, she wouldn’t be caught off guard too easily. But he was different; his fragile human body was his greatest vulnerability, and in such situations, the Zombie Puppets were effectively there to protect him.
Although Ling Mo was reluctant to consider Ye Lian and Xia Na as Zombie Puppets, he did view Senior Sister Li Yalin as a powerful one.
But to his surprise, this Mutation Snake had waited until Li Yalin passed before launching an attack on Ling Mo!
Ye Lian and Xia Na responded immediately, shielding Ling Mo from the sides but not recklessly charging ahead to pursue the snake.
After his initial curses, Ling Mo quickly realized that the snake was also quite interested in Li Yalin. It occasionally glanced at her but soon refocused its attention back on Ling Mo.
Ling Mo wasn’t sure if snakes had vision before mutating, but it was clear that after mutation, its eyes were not just for show.
Being stared at by this creature gave Ling Mo a constant sense of impending attack, a very dangerous feeling!
He wondered how it had hidden in the ventilation ducts. Could it have evolved to possess some level of intelligence?
It seemed likely. Otherwise, it wouldn’t have ignored the abundant food left in the hall and instead tracked them here by scent.
Wait, tracked by scent?
Ling Mo suddenly realized something, causing his scalp to tingle. He slowly pulled out a small pouch from his pocket.
To distinguish the virus gel from human zombies, Ling Mo kept the gel from the Mutation Snake in a special pouch he carried.
Sure enough, as soon as he took out the pouch, the Mutation Snake raised its head high, preparing to attack.
But Ye Lian, Xia Na, and Li Yalin surrounded it from all sides, making it wary of attacking rashly.
So it was because of this… Ling Mo finally understood why the snake had targeted him.
Knowing the target made things easier, and just as the Mutation Snake couldn’t resist any longer and lunged at Ling Mo with a hissing sound, Ling Mo threw his arm forward. The gel flew in an arc through the air, landing directly in Li Yalin’s hand.
Predictably, the Mutation Snake abruptly stopped in midair and changed direction.
In that brief moment of hesitation, Ye Lian and Xia Na closed in, and Ling Mo’s Psychic Tentacle enveloped the snake, holding it tightly.
The invisible psychic pressure caused the snake to thrash around like a headless chicken, its enormous body generating a whirlwind of air, while Ling Mo felt immense pressure.
Although the snake’s psychic resistance wasn’t strong, Ling Mo discovered for the first time that physical resistance alone could also affect his Psychic Tentacles.
Still, the Mutation Snake was quite dumb. Ling Mo used the virus gel as bait, tossing it back and forth between himself and Li Yalin, with the snake’s attention fully locked on the gel.
Overall, this maneuver was very dangerous, especially for Ling Mo, as his human body definitely couldn’t withstand an attack from the snake.
During this process, Ye Lian and Xia Na continuously attacked the Mutation Snake. Although it appeared blood-red and seemed to lack scales, its skin was actually incredibly tough.
Though not as hard as metal, Xia Na and Ye Lian’s heavy slashes only managed to inflict superficial wounds.
These injuries only enraged the snake further. It began thrashing wildly, which caused Ling Mo to feel a sharp pain in his temples!
The Psychic Tentacle was forced to release its grip, and the Mutation Snake seized the opportunity, leaping onto the staircase railing. Its massive body coiled around the railing, its head raised high, and then it suddenly opened its bloody mouth wide.
“Whoosh!”
A large spray of black liquid shot out of its mouth, directly towards Ling Mo and the others!
The moment the snake opened its mouth, Ling Mo sensed the imminent danger. He immediately retreated, pulling Ye Lian and Xia Na with him.
However, Li Yalin, who was standing a bit farther away, took a different approach. As soon as the Mutation Snake opened its mouth, she darted along its side, grabbing the railing and sliding close to the snake. Her sharp fingers pierced directly into the soft underside of the snake.
The snake, in pain, let go of the railing and its massive body fell to the floor below.
Relieved, Ling Mo narrowly avoided the venom. Glancing down, his scalp tingled at the sight of the floor.
The venom was incredibly corrosive; it quickly produced a faint black smoke that was hard to see with the naked eye. “Good thing it’s so dumb!” Ling Mo thought. If it had ambushed them with venom from the start, he might have been a goner.
On second thought, venom is precious to snakes. They wouldn’t use it unless they felt genuinely threatened.
After carefully maneuvering around the venom, Ling Mo peered over the railing to look down.
The snake had hit the ground but wasn’t dead yet, still writhing slowly.
“How big must the virus gel be from such a huge snake?”
Feeling a surge of excitement, Ling Mo took a small bottle of potion from his backpack before descending the stairs. After steeling himself to pour out the potion, he carefully filled the bottle with the snake’s venom.
“Now this is a real weapon… Whether against Senior Zombies or humans, it will be incredibly effective.”
