Chapter 18 – Life-and-Death Battle Inside the Revolving Door

In a complex terrain, losing these nearly twenty Zombies wouldn’t be too difficult. However, this area had nothing but wide streets and towering buildings. Without knowing the routes, randomly diving into an Alley could lead to a quicker death.

Running with this group of Zombies trailing behind wasn’t realistic either. While Ling Mo, Ye Lian, and Xia Na were in good shape, Liu Yuhao was already panting heavily, and the others looked like they could collapse at any moment. If their lives weren’t at stake, they might have already given up.

The most critical issue was that more Zombies were following, and they were getting closer!

During their escape, they encountered many Zombies ahead. Any slight delay would close the gap between them and the Zombies. It wouldn’t take long before they’d be caught in a pincer attack.

“This way! Use the cover to take them down!”

Seeing that it was impossible to shake them off, Ling Mo quickly looked around and pointed to a Shopping Mall.

It seemed like a random choice, but in reality, the Shopping Mall was the best cover in the vicinity. It had only one revolving door, and the entrance was relatively narrow. Even if there were other entrances, it didn’t matter. They just needed to deal with these Zombies and then leave immediately.

As soon as Ling Mo finished speaking, he led Ye Lian directly towards the building, and Xia Na quickly waved her hand, leading the group to follow.

Just as they squeezed into the revolving door, the Zombies had already reached them. Twisted faces, emotionless blood-red eyes, and the overwhelming stench of blood filled the air. Despite the revolving door separating them, facing so many Zombies up close terrified the group, making them shiver uncontrollably.

The Zombies moved so fast that Ling Mo and the others had to turn around and fight as soon as they entered the revolving door.

However, the angle advantage created by the door made things easier. At least they didn’t have to face all twenty Zombies at once. Only three or four could squeeze in at a time, and as soon as they appeared, Ling Mo and the others would cut them down. If Ye Lian fought, it would probably be even quicker, as she used her hands directly, which was more convenient than the weapons Ling Mo and the others used.

But only Ling Mo was accustomed to her bloody killing style. Who knew what kind of reaction Xia Na and the others would have if they saw it?

But as Ling Mo and the others were tensely guarding the entrance and fighting, they failed to notice that behind the front desk of the Shopping Mall, two Zombies in skirts and high heels suddenly sprang out.

These Zombies were likely once white-collar workers in this upscale Shopping Mall, but now they were nothing more than predators.

Even though they were wearing ten-centimeter high heels, which slowed them down, they still managed to get close to the group from behind. Someone finally noticed them.

“Ah!”

With a scream, a girl closest to the Zombies was pounced on. She screamed frantically, but being pinned under the female Zombie, she couldn’t struggle free. The Zombie immediately bit down on her carotid artery upon pinning her.

Blood spurted out wildly, and at that moment, another female Zombie lunged at a stunned boy.

His reaction was faster than the girl’s; he stepped back quickly. However, after just two steps, he bumped into Wang Cheng, the Glasses Man.

Instinctively, Wang Cheng pushed him away… but in the chaos, no one noticed this detail.

“Help!”

Already panicked, the boy lost his balance after being shoved. As the female Zombie pinned him down, he let out a desperate cry for help. But the next second, his voice was cut off in his throat.

This was the perfect moment to counterattack, but everyone was paralyzed by the gruesome scene before them. The sight of their classmates’ throats being torn, their chests and abdomens being ripped open, and their dying screams greatly tested their mental fortitude.

Zombies wouldn’t stop attacking the living just because they had food. After killing the two students, the female Zombies immediately lunged at the nearest Survivors.

One of the female Zombies was targeting a schoolgirl not far from Ye Lian.

At this moment, the Zombies attacking from outside the revolving door were relentless. Despite hearing the screams from behind, no one could spare a hand to help. Any lapse in defense, and the front door would be breached, leading to a situation where they’d be attacked from both sides, resulting in even more deaths.

The schoolgirl, utterly petrified, couldn’t even move a finger. Her mind was completely blank.

Just as she was about to have her throat torn open in an instant, Ye Lian, who hadn’t made a move until now, suddenly appeared beside her. She swiftly snatched the fruit knife from the girl’s hand and, in the blink of an eye, as the female Zombie lunged forward, Ye Lian struck. With a flash of cold steel, the fruit knife sliced through the Zombie’s neck. With a twist of her wrist, blood spurted out, spraying all over the girl’s face.

The warm, sticky blood finally snapped the girl back to her senses. She let out a hysterical scream, her legs trembling, and a warm stream ran down her thighs.

Ye Lian didn’t spare her a glance, nor did she check on the condition of the female Zombie. She immediately dashed towards the other female Zombie.

That Zombie had just pinned a male student to the ground, her foul mouth opening wide, when the knife’s tip pierced through her hindbrain and emerged from her mouth.

From the moment the female Zombies appeared to the point where Ye Lian had killed them all, it took no more than a minute.

In that brief minute, two students had died. The male student, terrified, lay with vacant eyes, unable to get up for a long time, even with the female Zombie’s corpse pressing down on him.

Ye Lian, who had acted with such swiftness and ferocity, was suddenly surrounded by the group. Those who had been scared out of their wits didn’t have the presence of mind to wonder why this seemingly ordinary beauty possessed such lethal skills. All they knew was that she was their protector now…

In reality, it was Ling Mo, who was slashing Zombies by the revolving door, controlling Ye Lian’s actions. To conceal his identity, he deliberately had Ye Lian use a weapon.

While the remaining Survivors were trembling with fear, Ling Mo noticed through Ye Lian’s perspective that two people were missing from the group.

They must have run upstairs out of fear… But fleeing recklessly was utterly foolish. Without protection, they’d only die faster. If there were Zombies in the lobby, there were certainly more upstairs.

Sure enough, a few moments later, screams echoed from upstairs, causing another wave of shivers among the Survivors.

After several minutes of intense fighting, the Zombies outside the revolving door were finally cleared out. Both Xia Na and Liu Yuhao were drenched in sweat. Especially Xia Na, who had fought desperately; her arm holding the knife was trembling slightly.

Although Ling Mo had an easier time, his face didn’t look good either. His temples throbbed, a side effect of excessive Psychic Power usage.

Looking back at the bloody scene, Xia Na’s expression was complex, a mix of pain and guilt…

Noticing this, Ling Mo walked over and patted her on the shoulder, saying softly, “It’s not your fault. If you had left them there, their fate could have been even worse.”

“Yeah…” Xia Na responded quietly, then managed a small smile towards Ye Lian. “Thank you!”

Although she hadn’t seen Ye Lian in action, the fact that Ye Lian could take down two Zombies almost simultaneously was clearly beyond Xia Na’s expectations.
