Chapter 281 – The Peculiar Superpower – Expert in Getting Beaten Up
The task of attracting zombies was assigned to Zhou Guocheng after some discussion.
This task was quite dangerous, but Zhou Guocheng appeared very calm.
“For my daughter.” As he passed by Ling Mo, Zhou Guocheng smiled and said, “My daughter lives in the Camp. If it weren’t for your many girlfriends, I’d consider becoming your father-in-law.”
“If you’re thinking of leaving a last message, shouldn’t you directly entrust your daughter to me?” Ling Mo couldn’t help but grin.
“It’s not a last message; it’s a reminder to myself that I must survive. I haven’t found a son-in-law yet.”
Zhou Guocheng sniffed and said.
“Then be careful. By the way, I’m not interested in your daughter.” Ling Mo patted him on the shoulder.
After everyone else retreated into the train, Zhou Guocheng rolled up one sleeve, revealing his dark arm. He took a deep breath and walked out from the corner.
“Hey! You monsters!”
He shouted, and with a swift slash of the dagger in his hand, he cut a deep wound on his arm.
As the blood started to flow, Ling Mo immediately noticed a reaction from Ye Lian and the three girls.
“Ling Mo… this smell… it’s so strong…” Ye Lian grabbed Ling Mo’s hand, her eyes slightly red.
“It’s much stronger than the usual human blood smell.” Xia Na sniffed and said.
Li Yalin licked her lips and suddenly turned her gaze towards Ling Mo, her eyes fixed on his neck, a bright amber color flashing in her eyes.
“Don’t get any ideas.” Ling Mo calmly rolled his eyes and then curiously looked into the tunnel, “So this is his Superpower? Does this mean his Superpower is to professionally get beaten up?”
Soon, Zhou Guocheng came running towards the train, clutching his arm, with seven or eight variation zombies close behind him.
“Get down!”
Before Zhou Guocheng could reach the train, Chen Youdong suddenly let out a low shout.
Without hesitation, Zhou Guocheng dived forward, rolling to the side of the train, and then sprinted along the side towards the door.
Several team members stood in a row, starting to shoot wildly through the gaps in the train windows.
The variation zombies quickly reached the front of the train and started pouncing on the windows, even as bullets rained down on them.
At this moment, a semi-transparent Energy Shield appeared, barely holding them off.
“Damn! That was close! A second slower, and I’d have been torn to pieces,” Zhou Guocheng said, sweating profusely as he ran to the door, with a variation zombie right on his heels.
Ling Mo extended his Psychic Tentacle, barely managing to control the zombie. He then leaped down and swiftly decapitated it with a single slash.
“Thanks,” Zhou Guocheng gasped as he jumped onto the train, breathing heavily.
Blood was dripping steadily from his fingers onto the ground, and Ye Lian and the three girls had their eyes locked on his hand.
“You are courting death by stopping here…”
Ling Mo quickly tried to calm them with his gaze. Since they had been with him, the three female zombies hadn’t tasted any fresh meat or blood, but that didn’t mean their primal instincts weren’t triggered.
“Go to the front of the train,” Ling Mo said, grabbing Zhou Guocheng’s arm. “Standing here will only attract more zombies.”
After sending Zhou Guocheng away, Ling Mo helped Ye Lian tuck her hair behind her ear, gently caressing her cheek. Seeing her reddened eyes, he whispered, “Calm down, Ye Lian.”
She stared at Ling Mo for a moment, then gradually calmed down under his touch, the frenzy in her eyes slowly fading away.
Xia Na closed her eyes and took a deep breath. When she opened them again, her gaze was back to normal, though an eerie chill remained: “Human Superpowers are truly bizarre. But overall, Ling-Ge, your scent is still the best.”
“Yeah, I prefer Ling Mo’s scent too. It’s strange, how did I never notice you back when we were in school?” Li Yalin said, leaning against the door with her arms crossed.
“Is that supposed to be a compliment?” Ling Mo rolled his eyes and then looked at the remaining variation zombie. “I won’t bother collecting blood from these ordinary zombies. The Virus purity isn’t high enough. I’m more interested in the boss of the variation zombies.”
At this moment, a crisis suddenly emerged at the front of the train. A massive variation zombie was somehow resisting the bullets.
Its skin had turned into something resembling old tree bark or heavily calloused keratin, presenting a grayish, rock-hard surface.
When bullets hit it, its muscles immediately contracted, causing the bullets to lodge in its flesh, unable to penetrate further to harm any vital organs. However, the tearing wounds inflicted by the bullets only seemed to enrage this armored zombie further. It let out a frenzied growl and leapt forward, crashing into the window with a loud “bang.”
“Clang!”
The already shattered window was completely broken, but the Energy Shield blocked the flying shards. Still, the armored zombie quickly pounced again, causing the Energy Shield to flicker and dim.
“This one must have come from a martial arts family, trained in Iron Cloth…”
Ling Mo watched in shock. Just as he was about to move to assist, he suddenly sensed an extremely dangerous presence above him.
“Clang!”
A dull thud came from the roof, and a dent instantly appeared in the steel.
Ling Mo slowly tightened his grip on the Tang Sword and moved cautiously to the side of the train car, looking up at the roof.
“Clang! Clang! Clang!”
More dents appeared, approaching Ling Mo’s position.
Then, the dents suddenly stopped not far from him.
“In situations like this, it usually means I’ve been discovered.”
Ling Mo’s pupils contracted slightly. He glanced at the door with the corner of his eye.
“Boom!”
The next second, a large hole appeared in the roof, and countless shadows reflecting a faint red light surged towards Ling Mo.
Prepared for this, Ling Mo jumped down from the train, and Ye Lian and the three girls leapt out as well.
Li Yalin caught one of the shadows with her hand, and with a swift cut, the Snake Kiss on her wrist severed it.
“What is that thing?” Ling Mo asked as he ran in the opposite direction of the train’s front.
Li Yalin tossed the shadow to Ling Mo and said, “Tentacle.”
Familiar red tentacles, thinner than noodles, with no blood at the severed ends.
“Spider Queen… she didn’t die back then? This is really bad…”
Ling Mo immediately felt his scalp tighten. He was certain that the Spider Queen held a grudge against him because not only had he deflowered her with his fingers, but he had also drawn her blood…
If she had any sensations while in her feigned death state, given the zombies’ astonishing memory capabilities, she would likely remember Ling Mo’s fingers and even his scent…
“I’m interested in this zombie Boss, but I definitely don’t need her to be interested in me!”
Listening to the increasingly close rumbling sounds, Ling Mo sprinted forward frantically.
This place wasn’t suitable for a fight; he didn’t want to be attacked from multiple sides.
Moreover, he couldn’t draw blood with Xia Zhining and the others watching. Whether they could hold their ground depended on their own luck.
Compared to the mission, Ling Mo prioritized achieving his own goals.
The underground network of this city was quite extensive, and soon another fork appeared ahead.
Just as Ling Mo dashed into the fork, a figure jumped down from the train roof.
She walked barefoot on the tracks, slowly approaching Ling Mo.
After running a bit over a hundred meters, Ling Mo stopped, quickly adjusted his breathing, and then turned to face the figure.
He gripped his Tang Sword tightly and drew his Short Knife with his left hand, watching her warily.
Countless blood threads, resembling spider silk, waved around her as their center, and that extremely dangerous feeling still enveloped Ling Mo.
Even Ye Lian and the others wore serious expressions. Xia Na whispered, “She’s definitely reached Leader-Level.”
“Are variation zombies still considered your kind?” Ling Mo asked.
Li Yalin glanced at him and nodded. “Of course, they’re our kind. There’s a very familiar feeling, something humans wouldn’t understand. If you’re curious…”
“I’m not letting you bite me, give it up, Senior Sister,” Ling Mo cut her off before she could finish.
“The Virus in our bodies is from the same source, just like humans have different races, but ultimately, they’re all human,” Xia Na said, blinking.
Her eyes had completely turned red and white. Silly Na’s half of the Psychic Light Cluster gradually stopped functioning, and Black Na swiftly awakened.
A crooked smile appeared on her lips, a smile Ling Mo was all too familiar with—one that seemed to enjoy the process of battle and longed to inflict pain on the opponent.
The preparations for battle were complete.
