Chapter 302 – Return My Cool Giant Dog
Taking advantage of the moment when they distracted the guard, Ling Mo immediately controlled the Zombie Puppet to rush onto the bus.
He carefully crouched down and started to search meticulously.
The bus looked like a makeshift laboratory, with many boxes placed on the seats and in the aisle. Most of them contained ice, preserving various blood or tissue samples.
Ling Mo first found the box containing the Gel and swept away all its contents.
The quality was poor, but the quantity was decent, so he had no reason to pass it up.
However, to his disappointment, apart from this Advanced Zombie, these people hadn’t collected anything else worth researching.
Besides the samples and Gel, there were some tools he couldn’t use, and nothing more.
Just when Ling Mo was about to give up, he noticed a backpack on the luggage rack.
The backpack was casually shoved there, almost causing Ling Mo to overlook it.
He initially thought there wouldn’t be anything interesting inside, but to his surprise, he found a black leather notebook in an inner pocket.
“Third pain reaction test results… hunger test results… Whoa, this is good stuff! And they just left it in this backpack?”
The notebook documented the processes and results of their various experiments!
For Ling Mo, this was an unexpected bonus. For a moment, he even doubted the authenticity of the notebook.
But then he thought, apart from him, no normal person would be interested in this, let alone steal it…
Indeed, there was no need for any security measures for something like this…
Thinking this way, Ling Mo felt at ease.
“Does this mean I’m no longer a normal person? Whatever, let’s focus on escaping.”
Slipping the bag onto his back, Ling Mo controlled the Zombie Puppet to nimbly jump out of the bus window on the other side.
From his pocket, he took out the Improvised Molotov Cocktail he had previously gotten from the Main Body and a lighter.
“I knew it was good to be prepared… Sorry, but you’ll have to catch another Advanced Zombie.”
“Boom!”
When a loud thud echoed, several guards immediately rushed over with their guns.
But none of them noticed that while they were distracted by the explosion, a Zombie Puppet with a backpack was nimbly leaping over the railing and into the greenery.
After reuniting with the Zombie Puppet, Ling Mo glanced back at the plume of black smoke rising from the bus station and quickly led Ye Lian and the others away from the station.
Blowing up that bus was necessary, but for the camp, the biggest loss would be the death of that Advanced Zombie.
As for other things… like the notebook, what Ling Mo had obtained was not official documentation, but the personal records of those two researchers.
Official documents certainly wouldn’t waste ink on the cover to draw an exaggerated skull and write a line: “This is a Dark Bible.”
“Dark Bible…”
Ling Mo couldn’t help but roll his eyes.
Compared to the unreliable cover, the contents inside were quite comprehensive.
After Falcon Camp officially established the Quarantine Zone in A City, the first thing they did was set up a Virus Laboratory.
The core members of this Laboratory were a few surviving experts from a large local pharmaceutical company.
They had extensive experience in making vaccines and had previously researched various infectious diseases.
Later, doctors, nurses, and even biology teachers joined in…
In Falcon Camp, anyone with some relevant knowledge could join the Virus Laboratory.
However, the responsibilities varied based on their level of expertise.
Just like when Ling Mo first found Ye Lian, they initially didn’t know where to start and were at a loss.
So, the early experiments recorded in the notebook were mostly analyses of zombie blood samples.
Many of these entries were vague speculations, and apart from concluding the Virus’s astonishing transmissibility, there was little useful information.
Ling Mo’s flipping speed increased, but when he reached a certain page, he suddenly showed a hint of excitement.
“Ha… they actually tried to cure it!”
The subject was a little girl who had just been bitten.
But after trying various methods, they concluded: “Once infected by the Virus, the mutation process begins and is irreversible. No matter what is done during this process, it is impossible to stop her body and mind from starting to mutate. She becomes incredibly strong, filled with aggression, and loses all rationality…”
Ling Mo sighed inwardly. His excitement was for nothing, and from the results, it seemed they abandoned this topic after the experiment.
However, just as he was about to turn the page, Ling Mo suddenly paused.
“Irreversible mutation process? But Xia Na retained some Intelligence after her mutation… Does that count as a reversal? If a reversal occurs, what are the consequences…”
Ling Mo glanced at Xia Na a couple of times, feeling like he had captured some critical information.
“Ling-Ge, what is the first courtship experiment…?” Xia Na extended her hand, pointing to the bottom of the notebook.
“Let me see… uh, they captured two live zombies, a male and a female, and locked them together. The female zombie ate the male zombie, and the experiment failed.”
“Sounds kind of sad,” Li Yalin blinked and said.
“What’s sad about it?” Ling Mo couldn’t help but ask.
Li Yalin licked her lips, “Those humans locked them up and didn’t give them anything to eat. Isn’t that sad?”
“…Hmm, you have a point… By the way, a sad expression isn’t sticking out your tongue.”
Ling Mo continued flipping through the pages with great interest, discovering that all their experiments ended in failure.
“That’s to be expected. Only Advanced Zombies awaken the nature of courtship, and only Leader-Level Zombies fully awaken the nature of reproduction. But this really is a Dark Bible, recording the details so thoroughly…”
As he browsed through the notebook, Ling Mo also found a suitable place to stay in these complicated alleys.
An old-style Cadre Rest Home, with an alley outside and a small hospital next door.
Although the Cadre Rest Home had old houses, the environment was quite serene, and there was even a hand pump well in the yard, which meant there would be sufficient water supply.
After dealing with a dozen zombies wandering in the small courtyard, Ling Mo found a relatively quiet apartment on the top floor of a residential building.
From the window, he had a clear view of the station and maintained a distance of within two kilometers.
If anything happened, he could immediately send the Zombie Puppet to check it out.
“Ling… Ling-Ge… come quickly…”
Ye Lian excitedly dragged Ling Mo from the window to the front door.
Before Ling Mo could steady himself, a dark shadow leaped towards him.
“Boom!”
“Black Silk! I’ve warned you a million times, if you pounce on me again… What the heck, who are you?”
Ling Mo lay on the floor, staring wide-eyed at the tiny furball perched on his chest.
He had been shocked many times today, but nothing compared to this moment!
After leaving the restaurant, Ling Mo had tried to summon Black Silk back.
But the Mutation Dog neither left his control range nor appeared in front of him, instead deliberately concealing its presence, playing hide and seek with Ling Mo.
Ling Mo guessed it might be playing wild or at a critical stage of evolution, but he never expected it had undergone a complete transformation…
If not for the Psychic Link still being intact, Ling Mo would never have believed that this compact, explosive, yet utterly non-threatening pure white furball was his Black Silk…
“Woof!”
Black Silk was excited, its body now reduced to the size of a human head and incredibly light.
Although Ling Mo was still in a state of shock, Ye Lian and the three girls had clearly become more accepting of it.
In fact, judging by appearance alone, it was hard to tell what kind of animal it was, but there was no doubt it was very strong.
When it started chasing Ye Lian and the three girls around the room, the scene before Ling Mo’s eyes turned into something like a fast-forwarded movie.
Three human figures moving too fast for the naked eye to follow, and a silver-white shadow bouncing around…
Smashed furniture and various marks left on the walls.
It wasn’t until a silver-white shadow brushed past Ling Mo’s ear and nearly smashed a hole in the wall that Ling Mo snapped out of it and grabbed it.
“Where did my cool, mighty, and imposing giant dog go? Give it back to me!”
