Chapter 334 – Establishing Relationships

On the second floor of a fast-food restaurant near the train station, a group of people sat together, staring at each other in silence.

The setting sun cast its glow on the floor-to-ceiling windows, and the evening chill made Wu Pengfei and Luo Ni both huddle closer into their coats.

The overall atmosphere was a bit eerie…

Yuwen Xuan was tugging at his hair, his eyes gleaming as he looked back and forth between Ling Mo and his companions.

His gaze was unsettling, as if he wanted to devour them alive.

Normal people don’t look at others like that; at least, Ling Mo felt his scalp tingle with unease.

Zhang Yu, meanwhile, was continuously observing Ling Mo. He always felt that there were many unexplained mysteries about this man.

But there were so many suspicious points that he didn’t know where to start, leaving Zhang Yu in a state of ongoing confusion.

“Senior Sister, how are you feeling?” Ling Mo asked softly, holding Li Yalin’s hand and whispering in her ear.

Li Yalin frowned, avoiding Yuwen Xuan’s gaze, then pitifully said to Ling Mo, “I… I don’t know. My mind is a mess.”

In other words, she wasn’t simply being controlled by her instincts…

Ling Mo felt somewhat relieved; this meant his efforts hadn’t been in vain.

Yuwen Xuan said dreamily, “And she could give birth to a perfect little niece at any moment.”

“Not exactly ‘at any moment,’ right? Even a chicken needs some time to lay an egg…” Ling Mo said, exasperated.

Zhang Yu glared at him fiercely, “My child is only three years old!”

“Ignore that idiot,” Zhang Yu said, turning his gaze to Ling Mo. “You all must be superhumans, right? Interested in joining our camp?”

“No.” Surprisingly, it was Li Yalin who refused.

To her, all humans other than Ling Mo were merely prey.

But when someone among the prey shared her memories and even had a blood relation, Li Yalin’s mind, which had just started to recover from its broken state, plunged into chaos again.

Amidst the chaos, Li Yalin clung even closer to Ling Mo, almost sticking to him completely.

Yuwen Xuan noticed her behavior and shifted his attention solely to Ling Mo.

“Is that so?”

Zhang Yu wanted to say more, but Li Yalin’s expression made him realize it was pointless. Her stance was firm.

“If you don’t want to join, then don’t. This camp is getting more boring anyway,” Yuwen Xuan interjected with a grin.

“However, it’s tough to survive out there alone,” Zhang Yu persisted.

“But aren’t I in the camp?” Yuwen Xuan waved his hand dismissively.

Zhang Yu hit his forehead in frustration. Did he have to be so blunt about his selfishness?

Even Wu Pengfei and Luo Ni widened their eyes. So, the camp had its dark side too?

It seemed that not everything had changed before and after the catastrophe…

Wu Pengfei quickly calmed down, though. He thought to himself, wasn’t he the same?

Wanting to make a name for himself, to stand tall in front of Ling Mo, to regain his dignity, to repay his debts…

“Even though we won’t join, but my friend here…” Ling Mo glanced at Wu Pengfei and spoke up.

Only an idiot wouldn’t use connections. Despite Yuwen Xuan’s mental issues, he was easier to deal with than those cunning old foxes.

Luo Ni hesitated but couldn’t resist adding, “And me.”

Ling Mo looked at her, and she immediately blushed and lowered her head.

Alright, considering your backside isn’t that bad…

“They’ve both always wanted to join you,” Ling Mo said.

Zhang Yu frowned slightly. He had already noticed that these two were the weakest in the group. They weren’t superhumans and didn’t seem to have any special skills, just ordinary people.

If he were to recruit, the obvious choices would be Ling Mo and the three girls…

“No problem, leave it to me!”

While Zhang Yu hesitated, Yuwen Xuan had already pounded his chest in assurance.

Yuwen Xuan turned back and glared at Zhang Yu, then looked expectantly at Ling Mo. “Come on, tell me.”

Ling Mo hesitated, then pointed upstairs. “Shall we talk up there?”

Ling Mo gave a noncommittal smile as he stood up and patted Wu Pengfei on the shoulder. “Have a good talk with Vice Captain Zhang. If you feel Falcon Camp isn’t suitable, I have other places I can send you. Don’t force yourself.”

Wu Pengfei felt a warmth in his heart. He thought of himself as a burden, yet Ling Mo showed no signs of finding him troublesome.

People often changed after making it big, and Ling Mo was now a hundred times stronger than he used to be. Yet, he remained a deeply compassionate person…

Yuwen Xuan and Ling Mo headed to the rooftop, with Ling Mo hesitating before speaking.

Considering that without Yuwen Xuan’s help, it would be tough to succeed on his own, Ling Mo finally decided to ask.

This matter was significant for both him and Ye Lian.

After some hesitation, Ling Mo asked, “Have you ever been to the laboratory at Falcon Camp?”

Yuwen Xuan glanced back at Ling Mo and nodded. “Yes, I’ve been there. It’s in that pharmaceutical company in A City. But I think the conditions and the staff there are mediocre. If you’re looking for information on zombies or the virus, you’ll likely be disappointed.”

Ling Mo shook his head. “No, I wanted to ask if they’ve conducted any experiments recently. Do you know?”

As soon as he asked, Ling Mo heightened his vigilance to the maximum.

Dozens of psychic tentacles were ready to strike. If Yuwen Xuan turned hostile or sensed something, Ling Mo would bind him immediately, giving him no chance to retaliate.

This guy, he’s not a pure psychopath after all!

“Haha, no need for that expression or to attack me. Even though we’re not close, Yalin is my last remaining relative. I still want to hold my niece.”

Yuwen Xuan pulled out a pack of cigarettes, lit one, and offered one to Ling Mo. “Give it a try. It used to be the best domestic brand. I stole it from the command room.”
