Chapter 341 – The Story of Yuwen Xuan
At the entrance to the highway leading to A City, an off-road vehicle is parked.
It’s about three hundred meters from the station, with several tall buildings in between.
Nearby, there are heaps of car wrecks, seemingly cleared from the highway by Falcon Camp.
Yuwen Xuan sits on the hood of the off-road vehicle, scratching his messy hair and staring into the distance.
“When the disaster first struck, we were among those trying to escape X City by car. It was right here that a traffic accident completely blocked the road, and then, in the car next to us, someone suddenly mutated…”
He muttered to himself, his eyes gradually calming from an initial frenzy.
Deep pain was hidden in his eyes.
“I was too weak… really too weak. Seeing that situation, I was scared stiff. Haha… who would have thought that Mad Xuan of Falcon Camp was once a coward paralyzed by fear of zombies? Knowing full well that staying there meant death, being torn into pieces and slowly digested in a zombie’s stomach… yet my legs felt like they were filled with lead and couldn’t move at all.”
Yuwen Xuan suddenly grabbed his hair, bending his upper body forward sharply, as if overwhelmed by heartache.
“But why, even though you were also terrified, could you still stand in front of me?!…”
He yanked at his hair desperately, as if trying to tear his scalp off.
“Run, quickly, run!”
Amidst the traffic, zombies were leaping out of the cars everywhere.
From many vehicles came horrific screams, followed by sudden bursts of blood splattering the windows.
A zombie jumped onto the car roof, looked around, and suddenly fixed its gaze on the car Yuwen Xuan was driving.
Dressed in a suit, Yuwen Xuan gripped the steering wheel tightly, his handsome face pale.
His lips trembled, and his eyes were glazed as he watched the zombie crawl over the car roofs, getting closer and closer to him.
In the passenger seat sat a young girl, barely in her early twenties, with a face and body still showing signs of youth.
She was trembling all over out of fear. After glancing at Yuwen Xuan, she suddenly pushed the car door open and jumped out.
“Haha, ran off alone, did she? Well, that’s how relationships are nowadays, right? Just hookups and breakups. A college girl who hasn’t even graduated yet, of course, she’s after my money and my looks…”
Despite being scared stiff, Yuwen Xuan’s mind was surprisingly clear.
Maybe this is what it feels like right before death…
“Bang, bang, bang!”
Suddenly, a figure appeared outside his window. The girl was frantically banging on the car window and then hurriedly opened the door.
“Come on! Don’t die here!”
She desperately pulled Yuwen Xuan out, crying anxiously, “Move! I can’t pull you alone; you need to move too!”
“Are you disappointed in me? But why haven’t you abandoned me yet? Clearly… I was just after your youth and beauty… Weren’t we just using each other?”
Seeing the girl’s panicked expression, Yuwen Xuan finally started to struggle.
They stumbled through the traffic, supporting each other, driven by the constant screams around them.
There was only one thought in their minds: escape!
But zombies were everywhere!
The girl’s panicked expression gradually calmed. She looked back at Yuwen Xuan, then suddenly pushed him into a car and slammed the door shut.
“Is she using me as bait?”
The girl smiled at Yuwen Xuan through the window, her face full of tears.
As she turned to run, Yuwen Xuan, driven by a will to survive, struggled to get up.
But the scene before him left him frozen in shock.
The frail girl shouted something at the surrounding zombies and then led them away in another direction.
“No, don’t! Don’t!”
As Yuwen Xuan finally managed to open the car door, he heard an incredibly harrowing scream from around the corner of the street…
“~Hehe, I love reading romance novels the most. The love stories in them are so touching, unlike in today’s society where everything is tied to money and power. For me, even living a simple and ordinary life would be very happy…~
“That’s nonsense. Those are just cheesy stories meant to fool girls like you.”
“You’re so annoying, don’t discourage me! Hmph, I know you don’t believe me, but one day you’ll see that I am sincere. Just wait and see!”
“In the end, you really saw yourself as the heroine of a cheesy romance novel… But you didn’t get the happy ending they did…”
Yuwen Xuan took a deep breath and slowly straightened up. “I promised you that I would never be a coward again, that I would never be afraid again… Even though it was a one-sided promise, it’s the only way I know to atone. Don’t worry, I won’t die easily. I don’t have the face to see you after all…”
“Walking this path again, I’m not a coward anymore. Did you see that? Now I can protect others, protect my sister…”
“Look, there he is, the guy with the messy hair,” Wu Pengfei said excitedly as he spotted Yuwen Xuan’s back from afar.
“That nickname really suits him,” Ling Mo nodded in agreement.
“And ‘pervert’ would suit you just as well…” Luo Ni muttered, glancing up at Ling Mo.
As they approached the off-road vehicle, Yuwen Xuan, as if having eyes in the back of his head, suddenly jumped down. “Hey!”
“Just from your back, you looked like a melancholic prince, but… what a backstabber,” Ling Mo said, feeling a chill at Yuwen Xuan’s grinning face.
Just a moment ago, seeing him sitting alone on the desolate street, Ling Mo had felt a faint sadness emanating from him.
But now, it seemed that was just an illusion…
“This is my beloved, her name is BMW,” Yuwen Xuan said with a straight face, patting the military off road vehicle beside him.
“Are you sure it’s okay to introduce her like that? Think it through; we’ll all be riding in her soon,” Wu Pengfei kindly reminded.
Yuwen Xuan paused, then burst into laughter. “Forget I said that! Let me reintroduce: this is my buddy, named Soap Dropper. It’s just a vehicle; its gender can be whatever I want it to be!”
“Why do you insist on giving it a gender and a name when it’s just a vehicle… And you, idiot! Who told you to remind him?” Ling Mo rolled his eyes at Wu Pengfei.
“By the way, Ling Mo, you need to come with me to A City. I can’t do this alone. You’re a superhuman with mental abilities, right? I’ll need your help.”
Yuwen Xuan said this as he opened the car door and got into the driver’s seat. “Luckily, this off-road vehicle can seat seven people. We’ll discuss the details on the way; it’s an hour’s drive. Oh, and do you have any long-range weapons? The road ahead is going to be fun.”
Once Ling Mo and the others got into the car, Yuwen Xuan turned around and looked at Luo Ni, who was curiously reaching for the sunroof. “Looks like you have a connection with my machine gunner!”
“Machine gunner?” Luo Ni asked, puzzled.
“Yeah! A newbie we picked up in A City. The day we left, he was standing right there at the sunroof, shooting zombies.” Yuwen Xuan squinted and smiled.
Luo Ni’s eyes lit up, and she couldn’t help but run her hand along the edge of the sunroof. “Really? That sounds amazing. Wow, there are even marks here from the recoil! And this black stuff… is this gunpowder?”
“That?” Yuwen Xuan shook his head nonchalantly. “No, that’s the bloodstain from when his head got blown off. Haha, couldn’t clean it all up!”
Luo Ni, who had been about to sniff her fingers, froze, and her face turned pale.
“By the way, what kind of help are you talking about?” Ling Mo, sitting in the passenger seat, asked as he saw they had finally stopped chatting.
Yuwen Xuan started the car and said, “It’s simple. Just tell me about your superpower, and I’ll figure out how you can assist me. But for now, I suggest you buckle up…”
“Bang!”
With a sudden burst of speed, the off-road vehicle shot forward like an arrow, nearly causing Ling Mo to hit the front windshield.
Wu Pengfei and Luo Ni were thrown against their seats, while Ye Lian and the three girls all let out an excited cheer, “Wow!”
