Chapter 353 – Specialized Skills, Betraying Teammates
Ling Mo was taken aback by the sudden attack. With a swift move, he dodged to the side while materialized mental tentacles shielded his head.
The attacker’s strength was astonishing, consuming almost half of Ling Mo’s mental power with that single blow.
Shocked, Ling Mo immediately sent several tentacles towards the attacker’s Mental Sphere.
The attacker was caught off guard, their assault strangely blocked mid-air, their force completely dissipated. The Mental Sphere fluctuated violently for a moment, giving Ling Mo the chance to execute a Mental Strangulation.
“Ah!”
A muffled grunt was heard, followed by a loud “thump” from behind a wall.
Xia Na, wielding her scythe, charged forward only to see a figure burst out of the rubble and then leap backward into the safety of a furniture store.
“What kind of attack was that…”
The figure kept a wary eye in the direction of Ling Mo and his companions while rubbing their head.
The Mental Strangulation, though hastily executed and not at Ling Mo’s peak level, was still effective.
The figure was lucky to have only fallen; had they not fled quickly, Xia Na would have already cleaved them in two.
“Mmm! Mmm!”
Behind the figure, a large man was suspended mid-air, frantically kicking his legs in panic.
The “creak-creak” noises were the sounds of a beam groaning under stress from the man’s struggle.
“Shut up!” the figure cursed without looking back.
The large man trembled with fear, but his squinty eyes looked towards the broken wall with the hope of seeing a savior.
“Immense strength, incredible speed… and likely some scent camouflage too…”
Ling Mo slowly emerged from behind the wall, his peripheral vision catching a glimpse of the spot where he was ambushed.
The fresh cracks on several broken bricks were evidence of the immense force behind the assailant’s attack.
Seeing his savior was just an ordinary young man, despair washed over the large man’s eyes again.
He didn’t understand how Ling Mo had blocked the attack, but considering the assailant had inexplicably fallen, hope sparked within him. He made two “woo-woo” noises, trying to catch Ling Mo’s attention.
But Ling Mo wasn’t about to get distracted now; the assailant put a lot of pressure on him.
“Is it a Psychic… Eh? Damn! It’s you!”
As Ling Mo looked towards the furniture store, the figure also stepped out of the shadows to face him.
Their eyes met, and both couldn’t help but widen in shock.
Ling Mo was utterly surprised, while the dirt-smudged little girl pointed at him, exclaiming in astonishment: “Ah… Ah! You! You’re that delicious sausage human!”
The only ones who’d call Ling Mo a ‘human’ like that were zombies…
Despite appearing as a little girl, the terrifying presence and the red pupils instilled a sense of dread.
Xia Na slightly furrowed her brow, taking a moment to recall, then her gaze turned somewhat unfriendly: “Ah, it’s you… with that flat-chested lily… Your name is Yu Shiran, right?”
Ling Mo immediately showed a hint of embarrassment; he had completely forgotten this young girl’s name.
However, Yu Shiran had a deep impression of her companion, even giving him such a… bizarre nickname.
But thinking about it, zombies don’t forget things; at most, they just toss aside unnecessary memories.
“Yu Shiran… I remember now, a Leader Class Zombie… Ban Yue’s mate…”
Ling Mo’s scalp tingled, and he quickly looked around with caution: “If you’re here, then where is Ban Yue!”
“Why are you guys here!” Yu Shiran countered.
She was still somewhat wary of Ling Mo, and with Xia Na here too, the recent sneak attack hadn’t given her any advantage…
So, instead of advancing, she retreated, quietly sticking to the wall.
Her large eyes, distinctly red and white, were tightly locked onto Ling Mo.
Among the three, Ling Mo was the strongest, but had the weakest defense, and moreover… he was the only human.
Yu Shiran was puzzled by the presence of Black Silk, but the characteristics of zombies led her to quickly give up on pondering: “Not human, not zombie, but in any case, some kind of edible creature, that’s for sure.”
After a period of not seeing her, Yu Shiran’s eyes seemed redder, and her cheeks more doll-like.
She was wearing only an adult male’s T-shirt, long enough to cover her knees. Her calves were bare, and on her feet, she wore slippers much too large for her size.
Although she was cleaner than most zombies, who didn’t bother to cover themselves and wouldn’t even know if their underwear fell off, compared to Xia Na and Black Silk, she looked much more shabby.
“I was about to ask you the same thing! You even dared to sneak attack me…”
Ling Mo deliberately raised his voice; if Ban Yue was nearby, he would likely be unable to restrain himself from attacking.
“Hmph, just a human… I’m here waiting for Ban Yue!” Yu Shiran said, wrinkling her nose.
She was itching to act but with Black Silk and Xia Na watching her closely, the chances of successfully attacking Ling Mo were too low.
“Exactly the same as before, huh, betraying your teammates just as quickly. So, this means Ban Yue isn’t here at the moment…”
Ling Mo’s expression eased. Dealing with two Leader Class Zombies was difficult, but with only one, it was much easier.
Of course, he couldn’t let his guard down completely…
“So, you left City X and came to City A, then sneaked into a human settlement? With your intelligence, you shouldn’t be able to accomplish such a feat.”
Ling Mo frowned; the defensive line they had just encountered seemed simple, but it was quite effective against zombies.
Yu Shiran said with a hint of pride: “We circled around the mountain and then came down.”
“You know the terrain here?”
Ling Mo’s eyes immediately scanned the map of City A, a route he had studied repeatedly during his journey, having nearly memorized the general terrain. He quickly pinpointed the only possible path that Yu Shiran and her group might have taken.
The route skirted the zombie zone, heading into the mountains. After several days traversing the desolate ranges, one could indeed enter City A successfully.
But it wasn’t just zombies that made this route a terrible choice; even survivors would avoid such a perilous path.
One could easily guess that defenses would be weakest in such places, or perhaps non-existent.
“I don’t know, but we had one of our own kind guide us here,” Yu Shiran said, showcasing her talent for betrayal without any hesitation.
However, as she spoke, she sensed something was amiss.
“Why do you keep questioning me, human?”
“I’m not forcing you to answer,” replied Ling Mo, his expression unchanging.
Another of her kind… By zombie habits, a weaker one would be disdainfully referred to as a lower-level zombie.
The only ones that could be considered her peers were Leader Class Zombies like herself.
Yuwen Xuan had mentioned that there was already a Leader Class Zombie in City A, which had disappeared after being injured, possibly having fled…
But now, it seemed not only had this Leader Class Zombie not fled, but it had also found two companions and used an unexpected method to infiltrate the human settlement.
“To come up with such a plan… the intelligence of this zombie… must be at least on par with Xia Na, which is to say, not far off from a normal person…” Ling Mo was inwardly shocked…
It was unclear how long the zombies had infiltrated, but it was evident that Falcon Camp had not noticed anything amiss.
Three Leader Class Zombies could turn Falcon Camp upside down. At that point, forget about establishing a quarantine zone in City X; even maintaining the quarantine zone in City A would be questionable!
Although Ling Mo had no intention of dealing with the higher-ups at Falcon Camp, he couldn’t stand idly by and watch so many people die, nor could he allow Wu Pengfei to be thrown into such a peril.
“What are you trying to accomplish? Surely you didn’t go through all this trouble just to catch a few people to cook and eat?” Ling Mo asked, his gaze turning dark.
Upon hearing Ling Mo’s words, the chubby man who was tied up began to struggle vigorously again.
“I really don’t know,” Yu Shiran answered without hesitation.
Zombies don’t lie. If she said she didn’t know, then she truly didn’t…
But this answer still made Ling Mo pause for a moment. However, in that brief moment of distraction, Yu Shiran suddenly bolted!
“Think you can escape?”
