Chapter 380 – Vengeful Rabbit
City S is a well-known industrial city surrounding City X, but it’s Ling Mo’s first visit since he doesn’t fancy going out much.
“If I had known this disaster was coming, I would have taken more time off to travel around with Ye Lian… Sigh,” Ling Mo lamented inwardly.
As the slipper van entered the city in the early morning light, the surroundings were shrouded in mist. Apart from the streets and houses that looked a bit old, it didn’t seem much different from any other place.
Driving through the city, they encountered quite a number of zombies. Those who got too close had their heads blown off by Ling Mo, who had significantly improved his accuracy and endurance after the crazy battle in the zombie zone of City A, a silver lining in a dire situation.
Especially regarding the use of mental power with each attack, Ling Mo had gained proficient control, quickly adjusting to different situations.
“My grandma mentioned that the industrial park of this city should be over there…” Ban Yue pointed into the mist.
Squinting, Ling Mo glanced in the direction before retorting, “As if I can see anything!”
“That’s really your own problem… But… I only know the general direction anyway.”
“What use are you then?”
Suddenly, Xia Na shouted, “We’re running out of fuel.”
The van wasn’t filled with much gas to begin with, and it was about time it gave out.
“We’ve just entered the city, the roads are so wide, it’s a waste not to drive. Walking is such a hassle. Alas, there doesn’t seem to be an intact car nearby. Looks like we have to find fuel.”
Usually, there would be several gas stations along the highway into a city, so finding one shouldn’t be too difficult.
With Ling Mo’s response, Xia Na slowed down the car, starting to look around for a gas station.
Sure enough, they didn’t have to pass through the dilapidated toll station for long before a gas station appeared before them.
“Let’s hope there’s still some fuel left.”
In places like City A, gas stations had been stripped clean, but in areas without large survivor organizations, there should still be some left.
Gasoline can last a long time if it’s well-sealed.
“Xia Na and Yu Shiran, you two go look for gasoline, I’ll clear out these zombies,” Ling Mo said as he hopped out of the van.
“Why should I listen to you!” Yu Shiran muttered under her breath but followed Xia Na through the zombies and into the gas station regardless.
“Why not use free labor? If it weren’t for the fact that you don’t know the gasoline grades, I would have sent you alone,” Ling Mo said with a chuckle.
However, he was actually being cautious. He wouldn’t feel at ease if Ban Yue and Xia Na went alone.
But if he sent Ye Lian or Li Ya Lin with them, his own combat strength would be compromised, and he couldn’t rule out Ban Yue causing trouble, which would just add to his problems.
And if he went himself… by the time he got back, this place could turn into a bloody feast.
Ling Mo clapped his hands vigorously, drawing the attention of all the zombies in the mist.
There was an abandoned bus and several cars parked here. Apart from two zombies dressed in gas station uniforms, the rest seemed to be passengers.
The group was small, numbering just over a dozen people.
However, these zombies all showed signs of advanced evolution, among them was even a mutated zombie.
“Roar!”
After a ghastly howl, the mutated male zombie in beach shorts leaped onto a small car and lunged directly at Ling Mo.
“I always seem to be the focus of their attacks. When will this ever end…”
As Ling Mo lamented, he slowly advanced towards the dozen or so zombies rushing at him, controlling his mental tentacles to shoot out.
The leading mutated male zombie leaped into the air, his face smeared with blood, his mouth wide open revealing bloodstained teeth and flesh lodged between them…
“Bang!”
It was as if he had been struck by an invisible bullet, suddenly sporting a hole in his forehead, his body following the momentum, collapsing at Ling Mo’s feet.
Ling Mo casually stepped over the body, hands in his pockets as he walked on, the zombies that pounced on him falling to the ground one by one, each with a new hole in their head.
“Hey,” Ban Yue suddenly turned to look at Ye Lian and Li Ya Lin, asking, “He… he wasn’t like this before, was he?”
Li Ya Lin showed an expression that said she was used to this, “It’s okay, he’ll realize it soon.”
“I suddenly feel so embarrassed…” After killing the last zombie, Ling Mo slowly withdrew his hand, scratching the back of his head.
“Look… see, he’s realized it,” said Ye Lian.
At this time, Ling Mo had reached the gas pump and suddenly frowned, turning to look back at the bus.
“I feel like I’m being watched…”
With a sense of doubt, Ling Mo slowly walked towards the bus, his mental tentacles probing ahead.
However, just as he detected a mental sphere, a shadow suddenly leaped from the bus, pouncing straight at Ling Mo.
The creature was fast, and although Ling Mo’s mental tentacles hit it, they failed to stop its advance.
Of course, that was also due to his hasty aiming, which wasn’t very precise…
Fortunately, his mental response was quick. As the shadow got close, it was blocked by Ling Mo’s mental tentacles, as if hitting an invisible wall.
“Roar!”
It was during this momentary pause that Ye Lian leaped up, kicking the shadow squarely.
With a muffled “thud,” the shadow was slammed heavily against the bus.
“What on earth is this…”
Ling Mo was somewhat startled, not expecting his mental tentacles to have no effect, so easily blocked by the opponent.
But as he took a closer look, his expression turned to one of intrigue.
It turned out to be a person in a bunny mascot suit…
The mental tentacle had hit the bunny ears…
“A zombie? Mutated while wearing a mascot suit handing out flyers?” Ling Mo frowned as he looked at the bunny.
The bloodstained fur was dirty and matted, a bunny like this could certainly give someone nightmares.
By then, Li Ya Lin had already appeared next to it, her weapon, Snake’s Kiss, poised to slice across its neck.
“No!” the rabbit suddenly let out a piercing scream.
“Spoke… it spoke!” Ye Lian’s eyes widened in shock, and then with her worldview seemingly flipped upside down, she looked to Ling Mo for help, “The… the rabbit, it talked!”
The naive zombie girl hadn’t realized yet that this was not an ordinary rabbit…
“Senior sister, wait.”
Ling Mo stopped Li Ya Lin, but to his surprise, just as Li Ya Lin moved her wrist away, the rabbit sprang up with such force that it leaped from the ground to the top of the bus and then propelled itself forward in another jump.
“Don’t let the rabbit get away! Catch it; make it lead the way for us!”
Following Ling Mo’s shout, three female zombies dashed after it.
Ling Mo followed suit, using his psychic abilities to track the creature.
The rabbit was incredibly fast and agile, a clear sign of a Psychic.
Ling Mo didn’t know why it had attacked him, but right now, he needed a guide…
With leader level zombies hot on their trail and Ling Mo’s psychic tracking honing in on the location, the rabbit’s speed was futile.
A psychic disturbance from Ling Mo, and the rabbit fell from mid-air, pinned down under Li Ya Lin’s foot.
“Don’t kill me! Please, no kill…”
The rabbit cried out again.
Ling Mo walked over and squatted down in front of the rabbit, but was immediately overwhelmed by a foul stench and couldn’t help but cover his nose, “Who are you?”
“Don’t kill me, let me go!” the rabbit continued to plead.
“So you can run away again?” Ling Mo snorted, waving his hand dismissively, “Take it back with us first.”
The feeling of being dragged back by Li Ya Lin was probably not pleasant, especially since she deliberately chose routes with steps…
All the way back, the rabbit kept screaming in agony. The zombies attracted by the noise were mostly taken care of by Ye Lian and Ban Yue, except for the ones Ling Mo dispatched.
Ye Lian’s attack style was graceful yet packed with overwhelming power, and combined with the Crossbow Arrows looted from Yuwen Xuan, she could even take care of zombies at a distance.
Her terrifying long-range attack capabilities were an eye-opener for the blood-soaked vengeful rabbit.
And Ban Yue was incredibly agile as well. She might not seem fast at a glance, but once she was in proximity to a zombie, she would burst forth with tremendous speed and terrifying combat strength.
Even Ling Mo was taken aback by her prowess, let alone the vengeful rabbit.
