Chapter 403 – The Toy’s Feelings
At the other end of the desolate street, a figure suddenly appeared.
He hugged the broken wall by the roadside, moving forward slowly, occasionally glancing around as if on guard for something.
This person was wearing a filthy set of camouflage clothing, holding a pistol in his hand. His hair was dirty and messy, and he emitted a strong, foul odor.
His bloodshot eyes and trembling lips betrayed the fear raging inside him. His stiff movements while walking indicated severe exhaustion.
The worst part was his mental state tense, panicked, on the verge of collapse.
At this moment, he was looking up, staring intently in the direction of a building. The faintly heard shouting made him appear excited.
“Are they coming to save me? Are they calling for me? … No, it doesn’t matter who it is, just save me… If not, even if I don’t get caught, I won’t hold out much longer…”
However, after just a few steps, he suddenly shivered, his whole body tensing up.
“We meet again, hehe… Did you make yourself this smelly just to hide from me? What a desperate prey.”
A figure appeared at his side, chuckling softly: “I was planning to play with you a bit longer, but now there’s a more interesting prey. What should I do…”
The Camouflage Man’s eyes widened, and his hand holding the gun trembled violently.
Even though the voice was right by his ear, he couldn’t summon the courage to raise his gun.
He had tried too many times already… During the past few days trapped here, he had been continuously hunted.
More accurately, he had been forced to play a deadly game of hide-and-seek with this terrifying Monster.
All the Survivors in this area had been toyed with and killed by this Monster, and he was no exception.
Just thinking about that terrifying figure and its swift movements made the Camouflage Man feel weak all over.
“I don’t want to die… I don’t want to die!”
The Camouflage Man screamed in his mind, but his legs felt like they had lost all strength.
When he first encountered the Monster, the Camouflage Man still had some backbone.
But who would have thought that the Monster wouldn’t engage him in a direct confrontation like men, instead choosing to torment him from the shadows?
Getting out of the Industrial Park was out of the question.
In the past few days, the Camouflage Man had thought about suicide countless times.
Rather than being toyed with like this, it would be better to end it himself…
But the sudden commotion brought him a glimmer of hope.
When you’re in utter despair and suddenly see a ray of light, your instinct for survival is greatly heightened, making you even more afraid of death than before.
Just as the Camouflage Man was about to collapse to the ground, the figure clapped its hands happily and asked, “So, should I give you a chance?”
Hearing this, the Camouflage Man froze for a moment, then turned around in confusion…
“So it really won’t come out… Huh?”
Just as Ling Mo was guessing that the Monster wouldn’t show up for the time being, a Camouflage Man suddenly appeared around the corner.
He was leaning against the wall, looking around nervously as if on guard for something.
Upon seeing Ling Mo, he immediately raised his hand, indicating he meant no harm, then quickened his pace and ran over.
“I can’t believe there are still Survivors here…”
Lucy, who was hiding behind an obstacle and preparing to take action, jumped out as soon as she saw the Camouflage Man.
“Help…”
The Camouflage Man collapsed in front of Ling Mo.
“Uh…”
While Ling Mo was still bewildered, Lucy had already risked running to the broken-down car, looking down at the Camouflage Man: “It’s Ah Sheng, no doubt! Ah Sheng! Hey, Fan Sheng?”
The Camouflage Man’s whole body shook, and he struggled to lift his head. When he saw Lucy, a spark of brightness flashed in his eyes: “Lucy!”
“Excuse me…” Lucy turned her gaze to Ling Mo and asked, “Can he come inside? He’s my companion.”
She then bit her lip and added, “Please.”
“Since you’re so sincere, Lulu…”
“Thank you!”
Lucy seemed to have resigned herself to being called “Lulu.” She grabbed the Camouflage Man by the arm and effortlessly dragged him into the building.
Ling Mo glanced outside and then quickly retreated inside: “You will come out eventually.”
Ah Sheng still seemed nervous. As soon as he entered the lobby, he began looking around anxiously.
When he saw Liu Baodong and the others, he even flinched.
“He’s with the Air Force Corps,” Lucy said, placing him under the front desk and letting him sit there.
“Oh.”
Ah Sheng turned his gaze to Ling Mo, his eyes shifting nervously.
However, his mental state was already fragile, so Ling Mo didn’t notice anything unusual.
“And who is this?” Ah Sheng swallowed hard and asked, “It seems like he’s not with you. He must have other companions, right?”
“Don’t worry about others, Ah Sheng. You haven’t sent any information back to the Base, and you didn’t arrive at the designated location on time… To be honest, we all thought you were…”
Lucy frowned as she squatted in front of Ah Sheng, scrutinizing him.
Ah Sheng let out a peculiar, bitter smile: “Haha, yeah, I thought I was a goner too. My mission was to explore X City, but I got trapped in this Industrial Park.”
Hearing this, Ling Mo stepped forward and asked, “You must have been attacked by that Monster too, right?”
“More than just attacked. It was playing with me like a bug…” Ah Sheng’s eyes didn’t show fear as he spoke, but rather a hint of madness. “From the moment I entered the Industrial Park, I was within its sight. At first, it didn’t attack me directly but made noises around me, keeping me on edge. When I finally relaxed, it would suddenly appear. I tried everything to survive, but in the end, I realized that in front of it, I was just a Toy to be dismantled at any moment.”
“You’ve taken apart Toys when you were kids, right? Did you ever think about how the Toy felt while you were doing it? I felt it!”
As he spoke, a faint smile appeared on his lips.
“This guy might have been driven mad by the torment…” Ling Mo muttered to himself, then interrupted, “Can you tell us about it? It’s causing us trouble right now.”
Lucy nodded in agreement: “Yes, I understand it’s been tough for you, but now isn’t the time for that. Two members of the Air Force Corps are already dead, and we don’t even know who this Monster is.”
“Him? Haha, he’s the most destructive Creature in this world. Even among all species, his power ranks in the top three… cough cough…”
Blood suddenly appeared at the corner of Ah Sheng’s mouth, and his gaze became unfocused: “Can I rest for a bit?”
“Hey, just when you were about to say something important, you suddenly need to rest!”
Ling Mo cursed inwardly and turned to look outside the door.
“Lucy, come here…”
“Ah!”
When Ling Mo looked back, Lucy was staring at Ah Sheng in shock, while a piece of leather jacket hung from the corner of his mouth.
Liu Baodong and the others, who had just gathered around, were also stunned, staring at Ah Sheng in disbelief.
Although Lucy’s shoulder was torn, she was wearing a tank top underneath and wasn’t injured.
She quickly retreated and pointed her gun at Ah Sheng: “Why did you suddenly bite me?”
Ah Sheng glared at Ling Mo with hatred and spat out the piece of leather: “You did something to me, didn’t you?”
Everyone turned to Ling Mo: “What’s going on here?”
“Bite your tongue, then try to bite Lucy to infect her, right?”
Ling Mo smiled at Ah Sheng as he spoke.
Lucy’s face turned deathly pale. She looked back at Ah Sheng in disbelief: “That’s impossible…”
But Ah Sheng’s actions proved Ling Mo right. He suddenly grabbed a Female Team Member and, with superhuman speed and strength, leaped to the stairwell corner.
“Ah!”
The Female Team Member screamed, but Ah Sheng was unmoved.
He gripped her neck tightly, greedily sniffing the blood scent emanating from her.
“Drop your gun! Lucy, I know you’re a good shot, but I won’t give you a chance.”
Ah Sheng grabbed the Female Team Member by the hair, using her as a shield: “I’ve already become a Zombie. That Monster will make me his companion, he’ll help me evolve…”
