Chapter 423 – Tracking

As evening approached, Ling Mo and his group had already left the area around the Department Store and entered a more complex environment.

Besides the Zombies wandering in the streets, a few could jump out from corners at any moment. Even under the overpass, a Zombie could suddenly leap down from above.

They couldn’t avoid this type of area, and if their reactions were slower by a second, they might get grabbed by a hand suddenly reaching out from behind.

Lucy, with her injury, moved at a slower pace. However, watching Ling Mo and the others handle everything with ease gradually calmed her initial nerves.

“Though they seem unserious, they’re still reliable. Without them, I might not make it to the agreed time.” Lucy thought as she followed behind. She occasionally glanced at Ling Mo and noticed that he was intently looking ahead, holding Ye Lian’s hand tightly. Whether it was his expression or his actions, Lucy’s impression of Ling Mo started to change.

She stared at him for a while, and when Ling Mo seemed to sense it and turned back, she nonchalantly looked away.

“This Lulu… is strange.”

Ling Mo, puzzled, turned his head to look at a Zombie that had jumped down from the second floor and was leaping towards them.

The Zombie suddenly stiffened in mid-air and then struggled with bared teeth.

“As expected, it’s still not working. Ordinary Zombies have no intelligence, and the Tentacle’s absorption ability is ineffective on them.”

Slightly disappointed, Ling Mo used his Tentacle to explode the Zombie’s head, thinking, “The memories of ordinary Zombies are locked in their brains. For me, they are vast reserves of psychic power.”

He looked at the Zombies on the road, feeling a sudden surge of enthusiasm, “Each Zombie is a potential psychic power battery… Unfortunately, I can’t find the valve to tap into the unactivated psychic power…”

Ling Mo was deep in thought when he suddenly noticed Yu Shiran looking back.

Before she could finish her sentence, Ling Mo covered her mouth, cutting her off.

“Almost got tricked by this little traitor again…” Ling Mo glanced at Lucy, who wisely moved a few steps away and leaned against a corner wall.

“Mmm mmm…” The Zombie Loli was still unaccustomed to being so close to humans. The human scent continually stimulated her senses, causing Yu Shiran’s eyes to slightly redden and a blush to appear on her usually pale cheeks, making her look somewhat like a shy human girl.

In his haste, Ling Mo’s movements were a bit too forceful, and his body pressed against Yu Shiran’s. He suddenly realized the softness pressing against his abdomen and quickly pulled back.

“Your unnatural development is really inconvenient…”

After letting go of Yu Shiran, Ling Mo found that if he just looked down, he could see her breasts through her neckline.

“Enough already! I’m a Zombie!”

Lucy, leaning against the wall, watched this scene unfold, her face gradually taking on a strange expression: “So he’s into this, and he doesn’t even try to hide it… What’s the point of sending me away then?”

At this moment, Ling Mo subtly blocked Lucy’s view and asked, “Why is Black Silk looking back?”

“Why should I tell you?” Yu Shiran rolled her eyes and said, “I won’t tell you that Black Silk feels like someone is watching us…”

“Being watched?” Ling Mo glanced around. They had left behind some Zombie corpses, mostly killed by Ling Mo’s Tentacle, so there wasn’t much blood. It would take a while for other Zombies to be attracted to the area.

In the remaining time, Ling Mo’s group should be able to get far away from here.

But at that moment, the street was empty, save for the whistling wind. There were no other sounds.

“It’s probably our kind! With us around, those Low-Level ones don’t dare to come out, but they still want to eat you guys, so they’re following us,” Yu Shiran said indifferently.

“Probably.”

Ling Mo glanced at the deserted street, his eyes seemingly scanning the shadows and corners.

His psychic tentacle extended immediately, whipping through the area like a long whip.

Two minutes later, Ling Mo casually ruffled Yu Shiran’s hair, ignoring her protesting look as he turned around: “Let’s go.”

“Is something wrong?” Lucy asked, catching up to them.

Ling Mo thought for a moment and said, “Nothing, just a little girl… suddenly wanted to act spoiled…”

“When did I act spoiled?! Don’t get too full of yourself, human!” Yu Shiran mouthed silently, her body obediently following behind them despite her resistance…

Ling Mo had reinstated Black Silk’s order to mute her, to prevent her from spilling anything…

As they turned the corner, Ling Mo glanced back, a thoughtful expression on his face…

“Huff!”

From a corner of a nearby store, a long exhale was heard.

Then, with a creak, a door slowly opened, revealing a narrow Restroom.

Quinn came out, covering her nose, and then eagerly took a deep breath: “Almost got discovered… Their strength is indeed impressive, being able to take down Yan Shang Feng and the others at the same time, they really have skills…”

The Tattooed Man squeezed out as well, kicking the door shut in disgust: “Damn, I almost suffocated in there!”

“They actually have a mental ability superhuman among them… But it shouldn’t be the one who attacked us. That kind of bizarre physical attack isn’t something a mental ability superhuman can do,” Quinn said. “So, at the very least, they have two superhumans among them… We should avoid any rash actions.”

Before he could finish, Quinn’s elbow landed squarely in his abdomen, causing him to double over in pain like a shrimp.

“Shut up if you don’t want to be considered a mute!”

Quinn glared at him furiously, then clenched her fists tightly.

Ling Mo had just taken down two more Zombies when Xia Na’s voice came from behind.

He glanced around. Rows of dark shops, deathly still buildings, fragments swaying in the eerie wind, and occasionally creaking signs…

“It does feel that way. Even though Zombies are everywhere, it feels like this world is already dead…” Ling Mo’s gaze fixed on a corner. “But there are always some people looking to die. Hey, over there! What are you sneaking around for?”
