Chapter 436 – The Dark Vanguard
The materialized psychic tentacle was actually severed, and Ling Mo didn’t even have time to react.
If it weren’t for his caution, they would have been ambushed at the door just now.
“Bang!”
With a hint of excitement in her smile, Xia Na kicked the door open.
But inside, the room was already empty…
“Hmph, they ran away…”
Xia Na snorted coldly. As she stepped back out, she saw Ling Mo chasing closely behind.
“Wait…”
Ling Mo had just shouted one word when Xia Na leaped forward, landing on the other end of the corridor.
“This time, I won’t let you steal my kill.”
As Xia Na’s playful voice echoed, her slender yet swift figure dashed down the stairs.
“No wonder she ran so fast, she still remembers that incident…”
Ling Mo paused for a moment, shaking his head helplessly. “The enemy is prepared. We don’t even know if they’re still in this building. Xia Na running around like this…”
Li Yalin placed a hand on Ling Mo’s shoulder and poked his cheek with the other. “Look at Xia Na’s state she’s very serious. She’s an Advanced one, nothing will happen to her.”
“That’s true… but we should still follow her. The enemy is alone and hidden, while we’re in the open. Splitting up recklessly is too dangerous. Lucy and Yu Shiran are looking out for each other, and there’s the unpredictable Black Silk, so they should be fine,” Ling Mo said, frowning.
“Let’s follow Ling-Ge’s plan.”
In matters like these, Ye Lian always supported Ling Mo unconditionally.
Even when she was human, Ye Lian seemed to be like this…
She had a lot of trust in Ling Mo. It seemed that as long as he said something, she would believe it.
But thinking about how she acted with others, she clearly appeared to be a gentle girl on the surface but was very independent inside…
“Maybe it’s because we grew up together? Even after mutating, she still retains this habit from her human days…”
This thought popped into Ling Mo’s head, and his gaze toward Ye Lian suddenly became intense.
“By the way, a zombie’s personality is more or less influenced by who they were as humans. Ye Lian has a chance of fully regaining her human emotions…”
But there was no time to dwell on this. Ling Mo kept it in mind and, along with Ye Lian and Li Yalin, chased in the direction Xia Na had left.
At the same time, his psychic tentacles carefully searched ahead and behind them for any sign of the figure that had ambushed them earlier.
“Hey, what should I do?”
Yu Shiran stood inside the room, her eyes wide with indecision. “That human’s exact words were for me and that human named Lulu to stay here… but that woman already left…”
Lucy had already disappeared out the door, while Yu Shiran was still struggling with her comprehension.
“Stay here… should I follow them or not? Black Silk! Pet! Why are you playing dumb at a time like this? What does your master mean!”
Yu Shiran slowly raised her arms, hugging her head as she squatted down. “Ugh, my head hurts from thinking…”
While the zombie loli was still conflicted, Lucy, who had left first, was already in the corridor.
She looked around but couldn’t see any sign of Ling Mo and the others.
“What on earth is going on…”
Lucy clenched her hand, slowed her steps, and moved forward, sticking close to the wall.
The internal layout of Century City was quite complex, with several intersecting corridors on each floor and countless rooms of various sizes.
Lucy guessed that Ling Mo and the others had probably gone downstairs, but which staircase did they take…
“It’s so dark…”
Her face was cold as she listened attentively to the surroundings, especially the half-open doors of the rooms. Even though she had lightened her steps, her boots still made a soft “tap” on the tiled floor. In such a quiet and dark place, the sound was particularly clear, as if it could attract some lurking danger at any moment.
“From what Ling Mo said, it sounds like they captured someone…”
As she pondered this, Lucy tensed her body and slowly approached one of the staircases.
Lucy thought that as long as she was careful, even if she couldn’t be of much help, at least she wouldn’t cause trouble for Ling Mo and the others.
From Ling Mo’s pale face and his groans of pain, she vaguely sensed that something was wrong, as if the situation was quite tricky.
However, just then, Lucy thought she saw a shadow out of the corner of her eye!
She immediately turned with her gun ready, but there was nothing in the dim corridor…
Lucy’s cautious gaze slowly moved around. Suddenly, she noticed one of the doors slightly moving!
“Who’s there?!”
Lucy whispered, stepping forward with even more caution, approaching the door.
The slightly moving door revealed a narrow, deep slit, and in the darkness, it seemed like something was staring intently at Lucy.
Holding her handgun, she aimed at the crack and asked again, “Who’s there?!”
No response…
“No reaction to my voice, it shouldn’t be a zombie… If it’s a human, even a superhuman, with my current skills…”
As Lucy got closer to the door, her expression became more serious…
Just as she was about to touch the door, a figure suddenly flashed behind her…
“Ah!”
The scream made Ling Mo and the others, who were searching downstairs, stop immediately.
He looked up in shock and shouted, “That was Lulu’s voice! What’s going on!”
“Senior Sister, go find Xia Na, don’t let her be alone!”
As he started to run, Ling Mo’s vision quickly shifted to Black Silk.
But inside the room, there was no sign of Lucy…
He paused for a moment before realizing what had happened.
“Darn, my instructions were too simple…”
Zombies have linear thinking to begin with, let alone a young zombie loli…
“Careless, I forgot how simple-minded this loli is, and also forgot that Lucy wouldn’t obediently follow my instructions…”
As a human, Lucy had stronger independent thinking, thought of more things, and her actions were harder to predict and control.
Given Lucy’s assertive personality, she was stronger than most girls and would never just meekly accept the protection of a little loli.
“It’s my fault for arranging things so hastily… I hope nothing goes wrong…”
Ling Mo’s brows were tightly knitted, his face full of anxiety.
His speed was faster than the average person, and as he rushed up the stairs, a large amount of mental energy was already prepared, with countless psychic tentacles raring to go.
“Bang!”
A gunshot suddenly rang out, though it sounded somewhat muffled.
“Where did that come from…”
Ling Mo anxiously stood at the intersection of two corridors, looking left and right.
At that moment, Ye Lian came up from behind and grabbed Ling Mo’s hand, pulling him into the back corridor. “This way…”
With the keen hearing of a zombie, her judgment was naturally more accurate than Ling Mo’s.
She led Ling Mo through two quick turns and then burst through a door.
“Damn…”
Behind the door was a studio.
A messy stage and rows of audience seats…
It looked like a small studio used for talk shows, but even “small” was much larger than an average room.
The high ceiling, scattered equipment on the floor, and obstacles everywhere…
“Bang!”
Another gunshot rang out, and in the darkness, Ling Mo sharply caught the fleeting flash of light.
“Lulu!”
Ling Mo ran forward anxiously, shouting.
This was both to intimidate the enemy and to alert Lucy to his position, to avoid any friendly fire…
“Whoosh!”
A sudden gust of wind came from above, catching Ling Mo in the audience seats off guard.
With a thought, hundreds of psychic tentacles instantly formed an invisible net above his head…
“Bang!”
It was as if a silent explosion went off in Ling Mo’s mind, causing severe pain in his head!
As his legs gave way, Ling Mo fell to the ground, and a shadowy figure, barely visible in his blurred vision, headed straight for Ye Lian…
