Chapter 439 – After the Fall
The sudden turnaround in the battle’s outcome greatly surprised Lucy. By the time she came to her senses, the Monster was already dead.
“Ling Mo…”
She had just begun to call out when she saw Ling Mo eagerly walking toward Ye Lian.
“Ye Lian, are you okay?”
Ling Mo grasped Ye Lian’s outstretched hand and pulled her into his arms.
Under the light of the Tactical Flashlight, Ling Mo’s expression appeared as if he had caught a fragile treasure just before it hit the ground…
Ye Lian, on the other hand, lay dazed on Ling Mo’s shoulder, slowly reaching out to touch his Hair: “I’m okay…”
Lucy stared blankly for a moment, suddenly feeling the blood on her forehead trickling down and blurring her vision.
She closed her eyes and wiped it away, but the image of Ling Mo shielding her from the debris flashed in her mind…
“What am I thinking!” Lucy shivered all over, shaking her head vigorously. “No, no, stop thinking nonsense, Lulu! You’re not the kind of woman who falls for anyone! Especially not for someone like him… no, no…”
“Lulu, are you alright?”
Ling Mo walked over to her at that moment, staring curiously at Lucy, who was shaking her head vigorously: “What are you doing?”
Lucy’s body stiffened. She slowly opened her eyes and looked at Ling Mo through her fingers. After two seconds of silence, she replied, “I’m fine… maybe I just got a mild concussion. I can’t seem to get rid of these messy thoughts…”
“A concussion, huh… If it were a mental disorder, I could help you, but with a concussion, it should be a problem with the brain itself, unrelated to the psychic light cluster, right? Well, I’m not sure. Let me take a look…” Ling Mo said, moving closer and placing his hands on Lucy’s head, bringing his forehead closer. “Don’t move, let me sense it.”
Direct contact with the psychic light cluster is much more sensitive than using a Tentacle to sense it.
Since he was checking Lucy’s injury, this method was the natural choice.
Lucy stared wide-eyed as Ling Mo slowly approached her. Suddenly, she felt a tingling sensation all over her body, as if she had lost all her strength and couldn’t move…
Her breathing became rapid, and it felt like all the heat in her body had rushed to her cheeks.
Just as Ling Mo’s forehead was about to touch hers, Lucy, whose heart was racing, reached her limit.
In the moment she felt her cheeks burning, Lucy suddenly pushed Ling Mo away: “What… what are you doing!”
Ling Mo stumbled back two steps, crashing into the remnants of a chair.
His previously bright eyes suddenly lost all their vitality, and his body swayed: “… I lost my focus…”
The interruption broke Ling Mo out of his Frenzy state.
The dizziness from the massive consumption of psychic power hit him twice as hard. He saw multiple images of Lucy, and everything around him started to spin…
Two seconds later, Ling Mo’s eyes rolled back, and he collapsed.
Li Yalin appeared behind Ling Mo in a flash, catching him: “It’s okay, he just fainted.”
“I… I…” Lucy stammered, her mouth open, trying to explain in a panic…
“Ling-Ge wasn’t acting right just now,” Xia Na said as she supported Ye Lian and checked on Ling Mo. “It was like… all his energy exploded at once. I was just wondering when he would suddenly pass out. I just didn’t expect it to happen like this…”
“So… when will he be…” Ye Lian asked.
Xia Na stared at Ling Mo for a moment, then suddenly bent down and placed her cold lips on Ling Mo’s slightly open mouth.
After a few dozen seconds, Xia Na lifted her head, licking her lips: “Like this… then a good sleep will fix it.”
“… That works?”
Lucy looked anxious and uneasy, but seeing Ye Lian and the others nodding at her in unison…
“I guess I have no standing to say anything…” Lucy sighed.
However, no one noticed that as Ling Mo received the saliva, his brow twitched slightly…
“What… what’s going on…”
It was like suddenly seeing a soft Red Glimmer in a completely dark environment. Stimulated by the saliva, Ling Mo felt himself “waking up.”
Unlike the usual sense of awakening, Ling Mo was surprised to find that he seemed to be unable to feel his body or sense the outside world… He felt like a pure Conscious Entity…
“Is this the legendary out-of-body experience? That Red Glimmer ahead can’t be the River of Forgetfulness, right… Hahaha, that’s impossible. Am I the type to die just from a push? At most, I just fainted…”
Ling Mo thought to himself as he slowly walked towards the Red Glimmer.
After a few steps, he suddenly realized that he was inside a black spherical space.
Beneath his feet, a faint Red Glimmer was pulsing.
After a couple of jumps, he realized that in his current state, breaking the “floor” was unlikely.
So he decisively gave up on that idea and turned his attention to other directions.
Around the sphere, there were Red Glimmers extending outward, but their intensity varied, with the brightest being the one he first saw.
“There’s no way the River of Forgetfulness has tributaries…”
Despite the bizarre situation, Ling Mo felt surprisingly calm.
He didn’t know why, but perhaps it was because, in this state, he couldn’t feel fear, nor did he find it strange that he was accepting such surreal phenomena so quickly…
It was like when people dream, they can accept many strange and terrifying things, but when they wake up and recall them, they feel scared and find it hard to accept.
He first walked towards one of the dimmer Red Glimmers, but just as he was about to touch it, he felt a resistance.
“Is this path blocked…”
After trying all the other paths, Ling Mo sighed and walked to the brightest Red Glimmer:
“It seems this is the only path prepared for me. Whether it’s a gate to life or death, I have to go in, or I’ll be trapped here.”
As Ling Mo stepped into the Red Glimmer, he felt a strange sensation: “It’s like… I just pierced through some sort of membrane…”
The Red Glimmer resembled a pathway, stretching into the boundless darkness, leading to an unknown destination.
Ling Mo followed the Red Glimmer forward until he reached the end.
“Hmm… Are they expecting me to jump into this place… This light has led me to quite an extraordinary spot…”
Ling Mo muttered to himself as he observed the scene before him.
At the end of the Red Glimmer passageway, a massive Light Cluster appeared beneath his feet.
The Light Cluster was predominantly red, swirling slowly like a working washing machine.
Inside the Light Cluster, countless black light spots tumbled up and down, varying in size, appearing quite abrupt.
“Jump? Or not jump?”
Ling Mo stood there, hesitating for two seconds, then glanced back.
“Huh?”
That glance made him realize something very important.
“I see… I know where I am now…” Ling Mo smiled in sudden understanding, then turned his gaze back to the massive Light Cluster. “This must be… I didn’t expect such a tangible representation. But… it’s probably a result of my subconscious imagination, who knows…”
He took a step forward and leapt into the Light Cluster.
The moment he touched the Light Cluster, Ling Mo felt like he had jumped into a working movie projector, with countless images flashing before his eyes, each scene as vivid as reality.
The rapid changes in light and shadow left him no time to look closely or think deeply…
The tumbling black light spots were like scratches on a film, obscuring the original images. When he hit one, all he saw was chaos and darkness.
It feels like being thrown into a front-loading washing machine, where even a brief moment can feel stretched out.
When Ling Mo finally collided with a particularly chaotic light spot, he felt as if he was being overwhelmed by countless fragments…
