Chapter 495 – Chaos
Bang!
“What was that noise?”
A soldier on the watchtower turned his head and glanced out into the wilderness.
The dense weeds almost completely covered the road. Although he thought he saw something, he couldn’t make it out clearly.
“What the hell…”
Just as the soldier reached for the nearby binoculars, his pupils suddenly constricted.
The nearest patch of grass to the barbed wire fence suddenly shook, and then a dozen zombies leapt out, rushing towards the barbed wire.
If the sudden appearance of these zombies was shocking, then the subsequent emergence of hundreds more was downright terrifying!
These zombies seemed to have been patiently lurking in the grass, waiting for the right moment and position.
“Th-th-this!”
The soldier’s heart started pounding violently. He immediately sounded the alarm next to him.
This wasn’t something that a dozen alert squads could handle. These zombies moved with the swiftness of the wind and acted in perfect unison.
When they were still a dozen meters from the barbed wire, the zombies in the rear reached forward and grabbed the arms of those in front.
At first glance, it looked like an internal conflict among the zombies, but when they started hurling their comrades over the fence, even a fool would realize this was cooperation.
The alert squad below also reacted, and gunfire erupted.
Although these zombies couldn’t directly leap over the high barbed wire fence, their claws allowed them to cling to it like spiders.
Using both hands and feet, they climbed up at an astonishing speed.
Meanwhile, the second row of zombies retreated, allowing those behind them to advance.
Those zombies swarmed forward, and with immense strength, began tearing at the incredibly tough steel wires.
The Air Force Corps’ daily guard force was suddenly overwhelmed. Should they shoot at the ones climbing or the ones below?
These suddenly appearing zombies were too fast! And too organized!
The Air Force Corps, stationed on the outskirts, had never faced such an assault before. At most, they had only dealt with twenty or thirty zombies, charging aimlessly to their deaths.
Apart from a few Senior Zombies posing a threat, ordinary zombies were nothing more than live targets to the soldiers of the Air Force Corps.
The most crucial point was that with aerial patrols, it was impossible for so many zombies to approach the Air Force Corps undetected, even under the cover of the wilderness!
But now, no matter how much they shouted “impossible,” reality hit them like a flowerpot falling from the sky, smashing down on their heads. Regardless of how low the probability was, it had already happened.
However, if these soldiers calmed down and observed, they would notice that only the first two rows—totaling around twenty zombies—moved in unison.
The zombies behind them appeared to be driven by something.
But such details were hard to notice under these circumstances…
The zombies at the front were not only swift but also armed!
The first batch of zombies climbing the barbed wire suddenly pulled out iron pipes from their backs as soon as their upper bodies emerged.
“Whoosh!”
An iron pipe flew in an arc of nearly twenty meters toward a soldier.
The soldier’s eyes widened, and his mind went blank. Finished, he thought. I’m done for…
“Ah!”
Less than a second later, a scream came from five or six meters away.
The soldier shuddered, looking at his comrade who had mysteriously fallen. His legs went weak, and he could barely hold his gun.
This was… a diversion!
The zombies were actually using tactics! They had underestimated them!
But if he had been watching the zombie at that moment, he would have seen the monster also wide-eyed and open-mouthed, seemingly surprised…
This scene was just a small detail in the zombie assault. A dozen zombies threw iron pipes, creating gaps in the alert squad’s defense.
Even though it was only for a brief moment, it was enough for the fierce zombies to leap over and charge at the pale-faced soldiers.
In close combat, zombies were the ultimate predators, completely overpowering ordinary humans!
Woooo—Woooo—
The alarm blared, echoing throughout the entire Air Force Corps!
“What the hell? What the hell is going on?”
“I heard it’s a zombie assault, over a hundred of them, and they all seem to be Senior Zombies!”
“That many? Could it be that an intelligent zombie is commanding them?”
“Who are you asking, me? Damn it, why now? All our aerial bombing units have been sent out to kill Ling Mo!”
The headquarters of the Air Force Corps descended into chaos as the alarm blared.
Although there was an emergency mechanism in place, it had never been activated before.
While things didn’t immediately fall into complete disarray, it would take some time to transition into an organized defense.
Amidst the flurry of people rushing about, a figure wearing a hood went unnoticed.
Although his face was mostly obscured by the hood, this attire was not particularly conspicuous in the Air Force Corps, where uniforms were not strictly enforced.
Especially in such extraordinary circumstances…
“Finally, the ones I’ve controlled in advance are getting their chance to shine…”
Under the hood, Ling Mo’s psychic fluctuations were tinged with pleasure.
Controlling over twenty zombies was just the right level of challenge for him, and since these zombies’ movements were quite similar, it didn’t require much effort.
The other zombies were quietly lurking nearby under the intimidation of Ye Lian and her group.
Bringing them here had cost some time and effort, but seeing the chaos they were causing the Air Force Corps brought a sense of satisfaction to Ling Mo.
However, these zombies were merely meant to create chaos for the Air Force Corps, not to destroy it.
If he had that kind of intention, he’d just need to control the mutated Li Hao to do some truly crazy things.
“I’m just vengeful… very vengeful, but not a psychopath…”
Ling Mo jogged into a corridor.
At that moment, several officers rushed out of an office, and behind them, a roaring voice could be heard.
“Just over a hundred zombies? What’s there to be afraid of? Look at you bunch of useless cowards!”
Ling Mo sidestepped the last officer who scurried out, then slipped through the door and quietly closed it behind him.
“You…”
A middle-aged man sitting behind a desk looked up, about to speak, but then stared at Ling Mo with a puzzled expression.
The middle-aged man found the figure somewhat familiar, even though he immediately thought of someone specific.
“No, that’s impossible… He could barely walk yesterday…”
The person before him moved with ease, which made the middle-aged man dismiss his initial suspicion.
“Why are you closing the door?” he demanded, frowning.
“Heh heh…”
The hooded figure let out a dry laugh and slowly lifted his head.
“You!”
Upon seeing the face under the hood, the middle-aged man instinctively sensed something was wrong.
Just as he reached into the drawer below, the figure was already on his desk.
With a swift move, the figure stomped on the middle-aged man’s head, pinning it down with a loud “thud.”
His hand suddenly relaxed, and the gun he was reaching for fell into the figure’s hand.
The cold barrel pressed against his temple, sending shivers through the middle-aged man’s body.
“What are you doing? If you kill me, you’ll never get out of here!”
His threat was clearly ignored. The pale hand pulled out a document from under his head.
“Well, this is your plan to hunt me down… Let me see…”
As the pages rustled, the middle-aged man struggled and felt utterly baffled.
This shouldn’t be happening… He shouldn’t be acting out so suddenly!
He still had a chance! As long as Ling Mo was dragged back half-dead, most of his crimes would be cleared!
Everything hinged on Ling Mo’s fate!
“Don’t do anything rash! Don’t worry, Ling Mo will be captured. I’ve already given the order. We’ll skin him alive when we catch him!”
The middle-aged man shouted nervously, “The Regimental Commander will be pleased. You might just get demoted… or even just a warning!”
“Too late…”
The document was thrown down in front of the middle-aged man with a “smack,” and the figure squatted down.
Like the sound of death itself, the emotionless voice of the figure whispered into his ear: “For Captain Li, it’s already too late.”
