Chapter 560 – New Kin: The Screamer
However, the first to bear the brunt was, of course, Xia Na, who was currently battling the variation zombie.
Though screeching loudly, the hands of this variation zombie weren’t idle.
Its long arms swung its sharp claws, whizzing towards Black Na’s head.
Originally, the spiritual body Nana was supposed to block the variation zombie, but it seemed to be stunned by the screech, standing there in a daze.
The claws passed right through Nana’s body. Although it didn’t cause her any actual harm, it looked pretty scary.
“This is Psychic Shock!” Black Na immediately realized. She quickly swung her Scythe to block the variation zombie’s claws, simultaneously pulling Nana back into her body.
After Fusion, Xia Na’s face was pale, and her eyes noticeably dimmed.
“So powerful… but it probably can’t scream again in a short time, right?”
Xia Na noticed that the variation zombie’s eyes also lost their luster, evidently unable to scream at will with that special frequency.
But just as she was about to move, she saw a second variation zombie step forward, opening its mouth…
“A whole Choir, really!” Xia Na was incredibly frustrated. In terms of close combat ability, this variation zombie was definitely not her match. But that scream was torturous, causing significant Interference to her spiritual body, making the fight really troublesome.
“These are my newly created kin. They are called… Screamers.” The Spider Queen, still standing atop the truck, introduced methodically. “Actually, they were meant to deal with this person,” she pointed to Ling Mo, “but I didn’t expect such an easy capture…”
“Enough, enough. Why does a zombie like you talk so much?” Xia Na impatiently interrupted her.
Although she didn’t mean to, her tone inadvertently sounded like she was mocking Ling Mo. Xia Na didn’t want to hear such words.
Surprisingly, the Spider Queen was quite obedient. Since her “birth,” she probably had never been reprimanded by a fellow zombie and instantly clamped her mouth shut.
But clamping her mouth shut didn’t mean she wouldn’t take action. With a subtle shift in her gaze, she suddenly pointed in a direction, “Over there!”
“Damn, we’ve been discovered.”
In the direction the Spider Queen pointed, Yu Shiran and Xiao Bai were cautiously sneaking around, preparing for a surprise attack.
Especially Xiao Bai, who was maintaining an upright stance, trying to squeeze through an alleyway that was clearly too narrow for a Panda of its size.
But the Spider Queen’s vigilance was sharp; although her attention was captivated by Xia Na, she still noticed the activity in the corner.
The two Screamers immediately lunged towards Yu Shiran and Xiao Bai, and soon there was a series of muffled crashes…
…
The Spider Queen had no intention of moving because she knew there were two more kin eyeing her nearby.
Although she didn’t understand why these kin were fixated on a human, from a zombie’s perspective… it didn’t really matter if she didn’t get it.
As a skilled hunter, the Spider Queen was patiently waiting for her prey to take the bait.
Once they appeared, the Screamers would entangle them, and she would have the perfect opportunity to escape with Ling Mo.
Through her blood-red eyes, the Spider Queen intensely observed the street, which was faintly shrouded in a layer of blood-colored light.
A few Tentacles swayed in the air, sensing the fluctuations in airflow and temperature around her.
As soon as someone approached, she would sense it…
A few seconds can feel fleeting, but in this atmosphere, it seemed almost interminably prolonged.
Suddenly, a figure flashed in front of the Spider Queen’s eyes.
“They’re here!”
The Spider Queen’s gaze immediately locked onto the figure. But she quickly realized it was just a shadow.
The real figure appeared beside one of the Screamers. By the time the Spider Queen’s Tentacle reached it, another figure had appeared beside the other Screamer.
The two identical figures confused the Spider Queen and the two Screamers, attracting their attention, but nobody noticed the new figure that appeared behind the Spider Queen.
Slash!
A cold gleam slashed towards the Cocoon on the Spider Queen’s back. At the same time, the inside of the Cocoon suddenly bulged as if it were about to explode, using the small gash to burst open violently.
But what burst out wasn’t flames; it was the pale-faced Ling Mo.
From the moment the Spider Queen heard the sound, she reacted, but the subsequent barrage of bullets completely immobilized her, giving Ling Mo the time he needed to escape.
“Whoosh!”
Ling Mo landed lightly, standing next to Li Yalin.
“You…” The Spider Queen glared at Ling Mo with anger.
She had already turned to face Ling Mo and his group, but the two Screamers were still chasing the shadows, only stopping in bewilderment when they lost their targets.
“Did you really think you could capture me?” Ling Mo said as he stretched his body.
The Spider Queen remained silent; verbal sparring was not her strong suit.
Ling Mo’s effortless escape left her feeling frustrated and puzzled. These female zombies didn’t exhibit anything remarkable or make any notable moves—how did they achieve such a result?
If it hadn’t been for Li Yalin’s assistance, no matter how quick Ling Mo was, it would have been impossible to escape in an instant. But as he reflected on the seemingly simple process, he wondered how it could have succeeded right under her nose.
This setback caused the Spider Queen to unknowingly start pondering these questions.
Of course, she had no way of knowing that the female zombies’ actions and behaviors had been coordinated by Ling Mo from the moment they arrived.
With Black Silk serving as a relay, Ling Mo’s psychic commands could be simultaneously sent to every Zombie Puppet.
Their seemingly mundane actions were actually all part of a well-orchestrated plan.
Xia Na’s distraction, Yu Shiran and Xiao Bai’s division of forces, Li Yalin drawing attention, and Ye Lian’s timely shot—all these seemingly inconspicuous details came together to create the final outcome.
While inside the Cocoon, Ling Mo was not only coordinating and planning but also doing something else.
He covered his entire body with psychic tentacles and, at the moment Li Yalin acted, materialized all the tentacles and expanded them outward.
Simple, effective, and with his powerful psychic power, he forcibly tore through those “Spider Silks.”
After Ling Mo’s escape, Xia Na and her companions, who were entangled in combat with the two Screamers, suddenly unleashed their full potential.
Their speed and strength had increased significantly. The twin Xia Nas worked in perfect harmony, the cold glints from their Scythes slicing through the air until they quickly cornered one of the Screamers.
Yu Shiran coordinated seamlessly with the two mutation beasts. She mostly hid in the background, waiting to launch surprise attacks. In contrast, Xiao Bai fought with incredible bravery. Whenever Black Silk exerted force to restrain a Screamer for a short period, the Panda would charge in, energized, slamming and clawing ferociously, finishing off the enemy with a powerful Panda Fall.
By the time Xiao Bai got back up, the Screamer it had struck lay in a pitiful state-still faintly breathing but completely immobilized.
The situation quickly turned in their favor. The other two Screamers tried to get close to the Spider Queen but were flung away by Ling Mo’s psychic tentacles.
After receiving a nod of approval from Ling Mo, Li Yalin eagerly joined the fray.
Blood splattered across the street, creating chaos, but within this small area, a tense atmosphere prevailed.
No matter how it was viewed, the Spider Queen had quickly fallen into a disadvantageous position.
“It’s useless,” the Spider Queen suddenly said.
“What?” Ling Mo was momentarily stunned.
“It’s all… useless,” the Spider Queen seemed unwilling to elaborate.
“What are you talking about?” Ling Mo instinctively felt something was wrong and pressed for an answer.
The Spider Queen looked Ling Mo up and down and said, “You could become even more perfect. And I underestimated you.”
“Not good! She’s going to escape!”
Ling Mo realized instantly and shot out a dozen psychic tentacles.
But the Spider Queen’s speed was extraordinary. A thin thread shot out from her wrist, latching onto an overhead power line, and she sprang into the air as if launched from the ground, suddenly appearing mid-air.
Whoosh!
Ling Mo’s tentacles, though swift, only reached the mid-air and could only helplessly watch as the Spider Queen leaped onto another rooftop.
