Chapter 97 – Another Superhuman
“So, have you guys made up your minds? What’s your decision on the trade?” Ling Mo asked, gesturing for the two to come inside.
Seeing Tang Xiaoxue standing still, He Pengpeng gave him a push from behind and said, “Come on, what are you afraid of?”
Afraid of your sister! I’m just worried about my stench offending the patient! Do you think everyone is as oblivious as you?
Tang Xiaoxue cursed silently but, already pushed inside by He Pengpeng, had no choice but to walk towards Ling Mo. Knowing how bad he smelled, he stopped a few meters from the bed.
Even so, the air in the room quickly became stuffy. Fortunately, the two female zombies didn’t mind the smell.
Lin Luanqiu and Ling Mo, though normal humans, were seasoned survivors who had been through tough times, so this level of discomfort was nothing to them.
He Pengpeng hadn’t lowered his voice, so everyone in the room heard him clearly.
Lin Luanqiu’s face showed a hint of amusement as she glanced at Ling Mo.
“Don’t worry, I promised not to take your stuff by force. We’re here to trade,” Ling Mo sighed and said.
Tang Xiaoxue nodded and replied, “I know that, otherwise you could have taken us out earlier. Just tell us, DaLao, how many supplies do you need?”
As he spoke, his eyes flicked over to Lin Luanqiu and Ye Lian, but when his gaze met Ye Lian’s, he felt a chill run down his spine.
As a pure Mutation Zombie on the verge of evolving, Ye Lian naturally gave off a different vibe. Moreover, the shiny curved knife in her hand suggested she wasn’t someone to be trifled with.
Tang Xiaoxue cursed his luck internally. Why did he have to run into such a powerful group of survivors right off the bat?
Though Ling Mo had promised not to use force, Tang Xiaoxue still felt like a mouse in a room full of cats, without a shred of security.
He hesitated and glanced at Ling Mo, thinking that there was no way he could refuse Ling Mo’s proposed “trade.”
In a situation where he could easily take things by force, Ling Mo was still willing to trade food for medicine. This made Tang Xiaoxue feel extremely fortunate. These days, strength is the only thing that matters; everything else is just nonsense.
Trustworthiness is the most unreliable thing… Even Tang Xiaoxue believed that if Ling Mo demanded the medicine by force, he might have to abandon his principles to save his life.
However, he hadn’t shared this thought with He Pengpeng because he knew that, despite He Pengpeng’s fear of death, he was surprisingly loyal. Asking him to do something like that would probably be too much for him.
The best outcome would be to pray that Ling Mo wouldn’t change his mind and rob them halfway through…
He Pengpeng, on the other hand, was much more carefree. Once he was convinced that Ling Mo wouldn’t kill them, he even grinned and said, “DaLao, we can talk about the trade later. Can I get some food first? I’m really starving… Those scumbag couple only gave us half a pack of mixed grains each when we left, which isn’t even enough to fill a tooth gap…”
“Everyone’s food is earned with their lives. I won’t give you anything for free,” Ling Mo waved his hand, stopping He Pengpeng from continuing his complaints.
Survivors like them, who couldn’t get enough to eat, probably made up a large proportion of the more than three thousand survivors at this school.
If it weren’t for this, Xu Cai’s incitement wouldn’t have been so effective.
The scariest thing wasn’t temporary hunger, but the despair that came with the dwindling resources and being surrounded only by zombies. Xu Cai’s group had fallen into this whirlpool of despair.
These two, however, hadn’t reached that point yet, indicating that there was still some food to be found in this central area.
Their task was to collect medicine, and since there wasn’t much food around, it was normal for them to go hungry.
But the scumbag couple they mentioned, sending people out to die without even feeding them properly, was excessively cruel, even for exploiters. No wonder Tang Xiaoxue and He Pengpeng held such a grudge against them.
Thinking of this, Ling Mo suddenly had an idea and asked, “I keep hearing you mention that scumbag couple… So your leaders are a man and a woman, right? How can just the two of them control over a dozen girls? You also mentioned that other survivors are forced to go out and collect supplies. I’m curious, why do you risk your lives instead of banding together to resist them?”
Ling Mo thought to himself, if this man and woman were as powerful as Ye Lian, it wouldn’t be difficult to achieve this. But if they were just ordinary people, where would they get such power?
Even using their companions’ lives as leverage wouldn’t work on everyone.
He knew the situation was likely more complicated than that. However, directly asking Tang Xiaoxue and He Pengpeng might not get them to reveal the truth. A bit of reverse psychology might work better.
Sure enough, this tactic had an immediate effect on He Pengpeng. He angrily said, “It’s not like that! If it were just the two of them, we wouldn’t be in this mess. They’ve latched onto someone powerful and tricked a bunch of people into joining them. We’re weak and outnumbered, so we have no choice but to follow their orders.”
So that’s how it is. He Pengpeng, Tang Xiaoxue, and the other survivors sent out on these missions were marginalized individuals…
Tang Xiaoxue hesitated for a moment before nodding. “This only started happening recently, ever since they got involved with that special abilities user…”
“Special abilities user?” Ling Mo’s eye twitched, and even Lin Luanqiu struggled to sit up on the bed, looking a bit troubled.
A special abilities user should be the same as a superhuman. Lin Luanqiu had indeed mentioned that there was another superhuman at X City University…
But he hadn’t expected to hear news about this superhuman so soon.
“Yes.” Tang Xiaoxue saw the change in Ling Mo’s expression and thought he didn’t believe him, so he added, “This person is supposedly integrating all the survivors in the school. They must have some kind of special ability; otherwise, how could they move around the campus so freely…”
Ling Mo thought that “freely” might be an exaggeration. However, superhumans did have advantages over ordinary people. With some caution, crossing the entire campus wouldn’t be too difficult.
But if they had special abilities, why not escape to the outside? Why gather all the survivors together? From Tang Xiaoxue and He Pengpeng’s words, it was clear that the scumbag couple hadn’t acted this way before. Now, they were forcibly sending people out to gather supplies, likely under the superhuman’s orders.
It seemed that this superhuman not only wanted to integrate the survivors but also to centralize all the collected supplies.
Thinking even deeper, this process could also eliminate many weaker survivors…
Ling Mo suddenly shuddered. No way… Could this superhuman, likely just a university student, really be that ruthless?
