Chapter 14 – Guard Against Fire, Theft, and Perverts
“Canned yellow croaker is so delicious.”
Lin Xi had finally gotten her wish. She was eating canned yellow croaker, though it wasn’t a last meal before execution; it was a welcome meal given to her by Lu Yi.
“Thank you, Lu Yi.”
This Neko classmate was far more humane than Shi Yu.
Moreover, she was such a cute, quiet girl.

“You’re welcome, Perverted Witch,” Lu Yi said.

Just as she set down the can of yellow croaker and approached Lu Yi, a cold shout froze her in place:

Lin Xi refused to back down. “What do you mean manipulated… Eh?! Lu Yi! Why are you eating the canned yellow croaker I was eating?!”
This shocking sight made Lin Xi forget all about her “debate” with Shi Yu.
Lu Yi tilted her head. “???”
“You didn’t want it anymore, but there’s still half left. It’s a waste.”
Lin Xi hadn’t abandoned it. “I do want it! It’s delicious, I wasn’t going to waste it!”
“I was planning to finish my debate with the Great Demon before eating the rest.”

Lin Xi didn’t have time to deal with Shi Yu; she had to explain herself to Lu Yi immediately.
Lu Yi had given her this can herself. If Lu Yi misunderstood and thought she was the type to throw away half a meal, wouldn’t she become the Scum of Humanity in Lu Yi’s eyes?
“Oh, so you still want it. Here, you can have it back…” Lu Yi handed the can to Lin Xi. One of the little yellow croakers inside had been bitten in half.
This… Lin Xi didn’t hesitate for a second. How could she possibly be disgusted by a yellow croaker that a Neko had nibbled on!
She had to admit, this Neko was even more of a space cadet than she had imagined…
Lin Xi happily reached out to take the can, but Shi Yu intercepted it:

As she ate and watched them, it felt a bit like watching a movie.
Lu Yi loved movies-almost as much as she loved yellow croakers.
Eating yellow croakers while watching a movie was, for Lu Yi, extremely comfy.
She felt like… this safe house hidden beneath the burial mounds of the Mass Grave had never been as lively as it was today.
By the time Lu Yi finished the can, the debate between Shi Yu and Lin Xi had also concluded.
There was no winner.
Both of them had closing statements for Lu Yi.

Lin Xi whispered to Lu Yi, asking who Sister Lin was.
Lu Yi explained that Sister Lin was their superior.
The mission to rob Jinrui Bank had been assigned to them by Sister Lin herself.
Lin Xi felt a prickle of unease.
She worried that Lu Yi might face punishment or some other consequence because the mission hadn’t been completed…
As for Shi Yu, Lin Xi only hoped Sister Lin would give this little devil a taste of her own medicine.
Lin Xi overheard Shi Yu mentioning the mission and then her own name.
As a newcomer, she didn’t have the standing to communicate directly with a superior like Sister Lin.
Suddenly.
“Hello there, Lin Xi.”
A voice drifted from Shi Yu’s phone. Shi Yu had switched to speakerphone and placed the device on the table.
Lin Xi was startled. Was… Sister Lin planning to have a chat with her?
Was this going to be an accountability meeting because the mission failed?
Lin Xi took a deep breath.
“Hello, Sister Lin!”
“If there’s going to be punishment for the failed mission, please punish Shi Yu severely!”

“I’m not going to punish any of you. This mission was originally supposed to be postponed because Mo was injured.”

“Yu,” Sister Lin spoke up, “when you cause trouble for a friend, you should apologize properly.”
Reluctantly and with a sour face, Shi Yu muttered an apology.
“What? What did you say?” Lin Xi cupped her ear. “I didn’t quite catch that.”
“You!-” Shi Yu bit her lip. “I’M SORRY!!!”
“Are you trying to deafen me?” Lin Xi complained.
“You two really do get along well,” Sister Lin remarked with a sigh. “Xi, welcome to ZERO.”
“From now on, you, Yu, Yi, and Mo are teammates.”
“Once Mo’s injuries have healed, we’ll hold a Welcome Party for you.”
“This mission isn’t over yet. Please wait for further instructions.”
“Understood, Sister Lin,” Shi Yu was the first to respond.
“Understood,” Lu Yi said.
Lin Xi echoed, “Understood.”
“Good,” Sister Lin said. “Xi, I’m looking forward to seeing what you can do as the Blazing Blast Witch.”
Lin Xi gave a wry smile. “I hope so…”
“By the way, why did you choose ‘Perverted Witch’ as your codename?”
“I didn’t choose it myself!-” Lin Xi cried out, wanting to apply for a name change, but Shi Yu snatched the phone away. “Sister Lin, if there’s nothing else important, I’m hanging up.”
By the time Lin Xi scrambled over to Shi Yu, the call had ended.
Immediately after, Shi Yu began cracking her knuckles.
“Perverted Witch, you wanted me to apologize, right?”
“Come here. I’ll keep ‘apologizing’ to you with my fists!”
Lin Xi bolted, hiding behind Lu Yi.
“This is domestic violence!”
