Chapter 11 – The Future Guardian Squad
Volume 1: Apocalypse Beginning
Wen Yu quietly observed the strange group before him: a man around 25 years old, about the same age as himself, holding an F-Rank Steel Blade exchanged from the system.
But the bulging muscles made it clear that this man was a completely different kind of combatant compared to Wen Yu, who was just a weakling from peaceful times.
Behind him stood a woman, 22.3 years old, tall and slender. A pair of tight jeans perfectly outlined her beautiful curves, but the blood-stained kitchen knife in her hand showed that this beauty was definitely not just a pretty face.
Behind the two stood a trembling little girl, not very old, with some bloodstains on her clothes and red-rimmed eyes-clearly someone who had experienced the bloody Apocalypse.
"Um, we didn't know there was someone upstairs. If possible, could we take some food here and rest for the night?"
Duan Wenfeng confirmed that the person before him was alive and quietly voiced his request.
Looking at the expectant trio, Wen Yu silently nodded.
"Take whatever food you want downstairs, and you can rest upstairs. Downstairs isn't safe."
For a group like this-woman and child-Wen Yu didn't mind showing a little kindness.
It was only the first day since the Apocalypse began; the morals of humanity hadn't collapsed yet. Besides, the fact that these two Class Holders were still carrying a burden in such chaos showed they probably weren't the kind of ruthless, bottom-line-less Apocalypse veterans.
"Thank you, thank you."
The beauty in the group happily thanked Wen Yu. Wen Yu smiled at them, though he wasn't sure if they could see it in the dark stairwell, and turned to head back to the second floor.
Soon, the sound of rummaging came from downstairs. Before long, the trio came upstairs carrying a pile of biscuits, bottled water, and other supplies.
"Thank you. My name is Duan Wenxue, this is my brother Duan Wenfeng, and this is a survivor we met outside, Li Di. Thank you so much for letting us rest here."
Duan Wenxue carefully studied the man before her-over 1.8 meters tall, looking tall and thin, his ragged clothes showing he'd been through brutal fighting. What made Duan Wenxue especially wary was the mysterious orb on his shoulder.
Knowing about Class Holders, Duan Wenxue didn't ask too many questions.
"Could he be a Mage? I'm an Archer, my brother is a Warrior, so maybe that mysterious orb is the mark of a Mage," Duan Wenxue thought to herself.
"No need to thank me. Strictly speaking, I just got here a bit earlier than you. The owner of this supermarket has already been dealt with by me."
Wen Yu looked at the woman before him-he had to admit, she was a real beauty: tall, with delicate features. Even though she was stained with blood and her face was dirty from fighting, her graceful figure still stirred Wen Yu's desire, though he quickly suppressed it.
What surprised Wen Yu even more was that he had heard the names of these three in his previous life-the famous Guardian Squad.
The most memorable wasn't the Duan siblings before him, but the timid little girl, Li Di.
It was in the sixth month of the Apocalypse, during the overwhelming Demon Tide, when this squad emerged: Shield Warrior Duan Wenfeng, Blaze Archer Duan Wenxue, and the most powerful-Light Guardian, Li Di.
Among them, the most unforgettable was the little girl Li Di, who revealed the terrifying side of the Light Guardian.
A massive energy shield enveloped the entire Mudanjiang City First Settlement, holding out for half a day against the terrifying Demon Tide, saving almost all the survivors in Mudanjiang City.
He also indirectly saved Wen Yu's life, who was in the first Settlement at the time.
Then, when the army of mutated creatures and the Demonic Creatures clashed fiercely, only then could the humans of Mudanjiang City survive.
"Mm, I still have to thank you."
Duan Wenxue didn't know what this person in front of her had just been thinking, and once again expressed her gratitude.
"My name is Wen Yu. Although we're all survivors, I still need to say a few things."
Wen Yu briefly introduced himself, then began to explain his own rules. Although in his previous life, the Guardian Squad had a very good reputation.
"We don't know each other, so to avoid misunderstandings, I hope you won't come within five meters of me when we rest tonight. I'll set up some little gadgets around me later. I hope you understand the importance of being cautious around others."
Wen Yu was sure the other party wasn't a bad person, but humans are unpredictable by nature, and it's always good to have an extra layer of defense.
"Mm, we understand."
Duan Wenxue nodded, and the big guy, Duan Wenfeng, also nodded in understanding. The little girl named Li Di was simply very curious about the Soul Beast on Wen Yu's shoulder, her eyes following the Soul Beast as it moved back and forth.
Wen Yu quickly set up his defenses around himself, then returned to the corner to quietly clean his weapon.
This was a habit Wen Yu had developed in his previous life. Cleaning his weapon made him feel more in tune with it. Although he might not use weapons much in this life, this little habit wasn't something he could change so easily.
…
"Big brother, thank you. My sister asked me to bring this to you."
Not long after, the little girl Li Di stood outside Wen Yu's defensive circle and handed him a bottle of purified water.
Wen Yu hesitated for a moment, but still got up and accepted the gesture of goodwill.
It had to be said, a child's kindness is a great bridge for communication between strangers. Wen Yu could clearly feel the tense atmosphere between the two sides relax a little.
"Brother, did you fight your way here too?"
The big guy Duan Wenfeng was the first to start the conversation.
"Mm!"
"Brother, you're really impressive. Judging by the blood on you, you must have taken down quite a few Zombies."
"You're not bad either. I can tell you and your sister are both Class Holders, right?"
"Haha, I'm a Warrior, and my sister is an Archer."
Duan Wenfeng was really straightforward, blurting out all his details without hesitation.
Duan Wenxue pinched Duan Wenfeng hard on the side. Duan Wenfeng realized his mistake and gave his sister an apologetic smile.
"Big brother, are you a Mage?"
Li Di was obviously very curious about the Soul Beast on Wen Yu's shoulder, still staring at it as it moved around.
Wen Yu glanced at the little creature on his shoulder. The Soul Beast was also curious about the other humans, carefully observing the three people opposite from Wen Yu's shoulder, even though it didn't have eyes as an organ.
He gently flicked the Soul Beast on his shoulder. The Soul Beast trembled twice and gently rubbed Wen Yu's cheek.
"More or less like a Mage."
Wen Yu replied vaguely; he himself disdained lying.
Duan Wenxue immediately perked up, "Could it be that there are some Hidden Classes?"
It had to be said, this woman was very smart.
Wen Yu looked deeply at Duan Wenxue, "Mm, I am a Hidden Class."
The other party didn't continue to ask what kind of Hidden Class Wen Yu was. After all, when it comes to personal strength, it's absolutely a taboo topic among strangers.
