Chapter 102 – Road to Survival (Part ①①)
Volume 2: Battlefield Between Two Worlds
Wen Yu's saliva sprayed through the air.
"You're a complete idiot! I honestly don't understand how you've survived this long!"
"Have you even realized what we're facing? They're all fucking Level 3 Demonic Creatures!"
"Level 3! That's Level 3! And people like this!"
Wen Yu pointed at the corpse of the Class Holder on the ground.
"He couldn't even take a single hit! He couldn't even stall for time! Aside from wasting our food and water, he would have wasted our Healing Potions and even wasted your energy-the energy of a powerful combatant! What use was he alive?"
"How many days have we been walking? Tell me, how many days?"
William's face was ashen. He spat out through gritted teeth, "One day!"
"And how many days do we need to walk? Ten days! That's ten days!"
"How many people did we lose on the first day? How many Healing Potions did we consume? How many Demonic Creatures did we kill? Tell me! Tell me!"
This time, William fell completely silent.
"You tell me, how was I supposed to save him? What reason could you give me to save him?"
Wen Yu let go of his collar. Facing the silent crowd nearby, he announced loudly:
"I'm telling you all clearly right now: from this moment on, with the exception of a few specific individuals, the rest of you will receive no medical treatment if you are injured-unless you perform exceptionally and show me your value!"
"If you are injured, especially with a wound that affects your mobility, you die. If you fall behind, you die. If you shrink back in battle, you die. If you want to live, then give it your all!"
"Keep moving!"
Wen Yu commanded loudly, and the entire team moved further away under a heavy, oppressive atmosphere.
"Saying that might not have been the best idea."
Jiang Wentao was the only one who could say such things to the current Wen Yu.
"Mhm."
Wen Yu nodded in response before explaining.
"I know it wasn't great, and they'll have their grievances. But if I didn't say it, the issue wouldn't be resolved easily. Were we really going to waste an Advanced Healing Potion?"
"I'm not actually a very clever person; I prefer things to be simple and direct. Besides, you can see it too-in our current situation, everyone except for a few is nothing but a burden."
After Wen Yu finished speaking, he fell silent.
Jiang Wentao patted Wen Yu on the shoulder and said, "Don't worry. Those with strength will stand by your side. As for those without strength or value…"
A flash of ruthlessness crossed Jiang Wentao's eyes as he reached this point.
"They wouldn't dare do anything. However, given the current situation, you are still the Captain on the surface. It's ultimately not good for you to be the one saying these things. So in the future, leave this sort of thing to me!"
Wen Yu looked at Jiang Wentao in surprise and slowly nodded.
This man, Jiang Wentao, was smart, strong, and possessed even better organizational skills. Most importantly, he had a powerful sense of the big picture.
It was no exaggeration to say that if Wen Yu wasn't the strongest, Jiang Wentao would be even more suited to lead this squad than Wen Yu himself!
Following the most suitable travel schedule for the group, they rested at sunrise and moved at sunset.
In the blink of an eye, three days passed.
Amidst the permeating yellow sands, a Big Dog walked slowly forward.
On its back was Princess Fina, holding the Fourth Prince.
Over these three days, One-Eye's injuries had completely healed after treatment within the Soul Realm Space.
Behind One-Eye, a line of scarred Class Holders moved like the walking dead.
Over the past three days, guided by Basong's ability, they hadn't encountered any major danger.
Of course, "major danger" was relative to powerhouses like Wen Yu.
Judging by their numbers, the group of Class Holders had plummeted to fewer than twenty people after weathering several waves of Demonic Creatures.
Naturally, this wasn't entirely a bad thing.
First, the group's food and water supplies were now guaranteed, providing enough for the remaining survivors to last over ten days.
Second, after the weak had been culled, those left behind were all powerful elites with strong combat capabilities. Although everyone was injured, their collective combat strength was actually higher than before.
Sometimes, having more people just meant being a bigger target; it wasn't necessarily a good thing!
Seeing the sun rise higher and the temperature begin to climb rapidly against all logic, Wen Yu shouted loudly.
"Stop!"
At Wen Yu's command, the entire team slowly came to a halt.
"Basong, Basong!"
"Boss Wen Yu, I'm here."
Basong came running over from a short distance away.
Although Basong wasn't particularly strong, his ability was incredibly useful. Even though he had sustained some minor injuries over the last three days, Wen Yu hadn't minded giving him an Intermediate Healing Potion.
"Find a safe place for us to set up a campsite."
After Wen Yu gave the brief instruction, Basong immediately activated his Danger Premonition ability to its full extent.
"This way."
Following Basong's pointing finger, the team began moving toward the northeast.
Basong chose a pile of jagged rocks as their campsite.
"Boss Wen Yu, how is it? This place is pretty good, right?" Basong said with a flattering smile.
"Mm."
Wen Yu nodded, quite satisfied with the location.
The rock piles provided shelter from the wind and sun, and the numerous obstacles were enough to block the line of sight of distant Demonic Creatures, providing a modest amount of concealment.
After setting up the camp under a strange, umbrella-like rock, Wen Yu found Jiang Wentao to begin an inventory of their supplies.
"We have enough food and drinking water. We're running low on Healing Potions, though-only six Intermediate Healing Potions left. We haven't used much of the Advanced Healing Potions, so we still have six of those. However, Monkey is running low on ammunition. That's the real problem," Jiang Wentao told Wen Yu, making the latter frown.
When facing a Level 3 Demonic Creature, the guns in Monkey's hands weren't particularly powerful, but they provided suppressive fire and served to harass and slow down the enemy. With Monkey's superb skills, his submachine gun almost seemed to have a built-in slowing effect. But bullets would eventually run out!
"Sigh, it's only been three days and we're already like this!"
Wen Yu rubbed his forehead forcefully. The worsening situation was making him a bit irritable.
"Also…"
Jiang Wentao hesitated. Seeing Wen Yu's frustrated expression, he thought it over before deciding to speak up anyway.
"Also, something feels a bit off about this place."
"What is it?"
Jiang Wentao's words gave Wen Yu pause.
Under the current circumstances, Wen Yu placed a great deal of importance on Jiang Wentao's input.
