Chapter 118 – Race Heritage
Volume 2: Battlefield Between Two Worlds
"This Skill is the last heritage of our Shimmer Blue Star. Keeping it with me any longer would be pointless."
The Fourth Prince spoke slowly from his high seat.
"When my Imperial Father obtained this ability, the war had already entered its final stages. Defeat was inevitable, so Imperial Father chose not to use it. Instead, he had me bring it into the Treasure Land."
"This ability is very powerful. I hope you can use it to fight for a glimmer of hope in this Apocalypse-for yourself, or for all of you!"
Wen Yu carefully chewed over the Fourth Prince's words for a long while before asking, "So, what exactly is this 'Race Heritage Rank'?"
"It is the highest rank, above SSS-Rank. In fact, you already have items of this level on you."
As the Fourth Prince finished speaking, a realization dawned on Wen Yu.
"Are you talking about this, and this?"
Wen Yu first pulled out the fragment of the Black Book, then pointed at Greed's Touch on his hand.
The Fourth Prince shook his head.
"A complete Black Book would be Race Heritage Rank, but Greed's Touch is not."
"The only reason Greed's Touch cannot be properly evaluated is because of its growth potential."
"There are nine ranks in total, from F-Rank to SSS-Rank. However, Greed's Touch has a growth ceiling. This weapon simply cannot reach the level of a Race Heritage Rank. The highest Greed's Touch can reach is SSS-Rank."
"I see."
Wen Yu nodded to the Fourth Prince.
"One last question!"
Wen Yu hesitated for a moment before asking, "If the mission had failed, what would have happened to us?"
The Fourth Prince gave a slight nod.
"If the mission failed, all the Demonic Creatures would have mobilized at once to kill you, rather than appearing in waves as they originally did. If you had somehow managed to survive that, I would have arranged a place for you. A peaceful place, free of killing and conflict!"
"A place with food and drink, where you could live until you died of old age…"
Wen Yu nodded slowly.
"Furthermore, in view of your outstanding performance in this Treasure Land, your Sequence ranking will remain unchanged."
The Fourth Prince's statement was merely a matter of formality.
This didn't come as a surprise to Wen Yu either.
"Now, you may leave."
As the Fourth Prince's voice fell, the light of Teleportation flashed, and a wave of dizziness washed over Wen Yu.
When Wen Yu opened his eyes again, he was standing at the entrance of the Ch Town Hospital.
In front of him stood Sun Ruixing and Sun Aotian.
…
"You're out?"
Seeing Wen Yu's figure, Sun Ruixing was the first to step forward.
Wen Yu nodded to Sun Ruixing, then turned his gaze toward Sun Aotian, who stood to the side with a conflicted expression.
Wen Yu's eyes were cold and indifferent.
It was this very look that made Sun Aotian's skin crawl.
After a long pause, Sun Aotian forced a smile and said, "Wen Yu-Ge, about what happened in the Treasure Land… I'm sorry."
Hearing Sun Aotian's words, the coldness in Wen Yu's eyes vanished instantly. He spoke with a hint of warmth, "It was my fault too for not doing better. I wasn't in a great mood just now, so I hope my actions didn't hurt you. I also hope my behavior won't affect our relationship. After all, Aotian, we've fought side-by-side. I still care about you. You won't hold what just happened against me, right?"
After saying this, Wen Yu stepped forward and put an arm around Sun Aotian's shoulder, looking at him earnestly.
Young Sun… well, regardless of what he was actually thinking, he could only show one expression now!
Hearing Wen Yu's soft words, the heavy weight in Sun Aotian's heart dropped instantly. He said happily, "Wen Yu-Ge, I didn't mean it either. I was just scared. I'm more than happy that you can forgive me, so how could I possibly blame you…"
As if he had finally found his pillar of support, Sun Aotian immediately regained his original optimistic mindset and began chattering away incessantly.
Watching Wen Yu and Sun Aotian acting like close brothers, only Sun Ruixing, standing behind them, let out a silent sigh.
Sun Ruixing understood Wen Yu's temperament and personality perfectly, even if Sun Aotian was oblivious. From the moment Wen Yu finished speaking, the outcome would have been the same regardless of how Sun Aotian replied.
Sun Aotian would never be able to ride Wen Yu's coattails in this lifetime.
The trio walked at a brisk pace along the road leading toward the Zang Pengfei Settlement.
"By the way, what time is it now?"
Wen Yu finally realized that after entering the Treasure Land, he had spent over ten days in the Trial scenario. He wasn't sure if time flowed at the same rate outside as it did in the Trial Space.
"Wen Yu-Ge, it's two in the afternoon."
Sun Aotian was so desperate to talk to Wen Yu that he blurted out the answer without even thinking.
Sun Ruixing was more experienced. He pulled out a watch and carefully checked the date.
"The rate of time flow is the same, though I can't be certain since I brought this watch into the Treasure Land with me."
Wen Yu nodded. Sun Aotian finally understood what Wen Yu meant. Eager to prove his worth, Sun Aotian spoke up immediately.
"Wen Yu-Ge, wait a moment. I'll go check the nearby shops."
Before he had even finished speaking, Sun Aotian had already bolted off like a rabbit.
Wen Yu watched Sun Aotian's retreating figure, his gaze gradually becoming profound.
"Wen Yu, he's just a kid," Sun Ruixing said in a low voice from the side.
"Yeah, I know. And?"
"I understand what you're thinking. But he's just a kid. He was wrong in this matter, but it wasn't some massive mistake. At the very least, it's not a mistake worth dying for!"
"I wasn't planning on killing him."
Wen Yu turned his head coldly and began walking forward slowly.
"I don't kill people randomly when there's no conflict of interest."
Sun Ruixing sighed silently behind him.
Even Sun Ruixing couldn't guess what Wen Yu was thinking now, or what he truly thought of Sun Aotian.
"Wen Yu-Ge! Wen Yu-Ge!"
Sun Aotian panted as he caught up to the two men walking slowly toward the Camp.
"I found the answer. It's been over ten days. The time flow is the same."
"Mm, well done."
Wen Yu gave Sun Aotian a rare word of praise.
"Ten days… it feels like such a long time," Sun Ruixing remarked with a sigh.
"It really does. More importantly, no one knows what the state of the Camp is after ten days. In these early stages of the Apocalypse, ten days is enough for a lot of things to happen," Wen Yu said with deep feeling.
One had to remember that from the start of the Apocalypse until they entered the Treasure Land, barely ten days had passed.
For Wen Yu, that short period had been the transition from being one of the Ordinary People to a Level 2 Class Holder!
By Wen Yu's estimation, while it was impossible for a Level Three Class Holder to have appeared in the Settlement yet, the number of Level 2 Class Holders should have increased significantly.
"By the way, I'll buy you a drink once we're back. Don't forget," Wen Yu said to Sun Ruixing with a smile.
"Of course. It's always a good thing to fleece a rich guy," Sun Ruixing joked back.
Sun Aotian understood enough to stay quiet and didn't shout things like "count me in."
In the distance, the silhouette of the Camp began to flicker into view.
"Finally home," Sun Aotian said, perfectly capturing the mood.
