Chapter 34 – All Acting
Volume 2: Battlefield Between Two Worlds
Watching Sun Aotian head straight for the Exchange Pillar, Wen Yu said to the relieved-looking Li Quan'an behind him, "I've repaid the favor. From now on, we owe each other nothing."
Hearing Wen Yu's words, the relief vanished from Li Quan'an's face, replaced by bitterness. "Many thanks, Brother Wen Yu, for saving my life."
Wen Yu had tricked Li Quan'an again.
What Li Quan'an had asked for just now was to save his life, and Wen Yu had saved him, so that favor was naturally repaid.
But Wen Yu didn't care what would happen to Li Quan'an afterward. For the sake of a few Magic Crystals, he simply let Sun Aotian go.
Next time Sun Aotian came looking for trouble with Li Quan'an, no one would come to save him!
"Fuck this. I can't stay in this goddamn place."
Seeing Bai Feifei's stunned face not far away, Wen Yu's unruffled calm, and Sun Aotian walking back after exchanging Magic Crystals, Li Quan'an cursed under his breath, then turned and led a few underlings out of the Camp.
Fortunately, no one paid Li Quan'an any attention.
Everyone's gaze was fixed on Wen Yu, eyes full of disbelief, awe, and even hope for survival.
Wen Yu's strength showed the others that it might be possible to defeat the Zombie horde.
Sun Aotian handed two Attribute-Less Magic Crystals straight to Wen Yu. When he saw Wen Yu begin absorbing the three Magic Crystals in his hands, a sudden flash of cunning appeared in his eyes.
"Just you wait. Don't you bully a poor youth-thirty years east of the river, thirty years west of the river. Sooner or later, you'll become a stepping stone on my path to becoming the strongest!"
Sun Aotian lifted his chin and shouted at Wen Yu.
Wen Yu had just finished absorbing the Magic Crystals when he heard Sun Aotian's taunts.
"Tsk, tsk." Hearing Sun Aotian, Wen Yu suddenly felt it was pointless.
Really-why was he competing with some chuunibyou idiot kid?
He was dealing with a minor who had protagonist delusions, and, most importantly, someone whose strength had no chance of ever beating his.
Should he kill him tomorrow? For the first time, Wen Yu hesitated.
It wasn't like this kid had really done anything to him, right?
That was what Wen Yu thought. The killing intent around him slowly faded, and he simply nodded to Zang Pengfei. "Arrange a place for me to stay. I'm going to rest."
"Brother Wen Yu, this way."
Zang Pengfei said politely, then led Wen Yu toward the interior of the Camp.
Watching Wen Yu turn and leave, and feeling the killing intent on him gradually weaken, Sun Aotian drew a deep breath.
He'd gambled right.
Sun Aotian had understood the trap hidden in Wen Yu's words.
If you don't kill me today, there'll be tomorrow-and plenty of time after that. Ever since the Apocalypse, Sun Aotian had been staying in Chaihe Town, so he naturally understood how terrifying things were there, and he wouldn't run straight out of the Camp like Li Quan'an did.
Outside the Camp, even with Sun Aotian's strength, there wouldn't be much safety.
Don't be fooled by the chuunibyou act Sun Aotian put on, like he feared nothing under heaven. In reality, the kid was full of schemes.
Knowing Wen Yu wouldn't let him off easily, Sun Aotian simply put on the attitude of a webnovel protagonist and loudly provoked the villain he couldn't beat for now.
Wen Yu definitely wouldn't let him off as casually as some standard villain would-but Wen Yu, seeing through the routine, would definitely look down on him.
As long as Wen Yu looked down on him, he wouldn't be treated as a threat. Only people who weren't a threat wouldn't be targeted.
Fortunately, Sun Aotian had bet correctly.
Turning his head, Sun Aotian led the terrified Bai Feifei and her younger brother toward his residence.
"Tian-Ge, what do we do? I didn't expect that Wen Yu to be so strong."
Bai Feifei's heart was about to leap out of her throat. She'd finally found someone to lean on, only to find that this pillar of support had almost been snapped by someone else.
"What else can we do? Keep a low profile from now on, and don't go provoking that guy anymore."
Bai Feifei looked at Sun Aotian in surprise. Those words simply didn't fit the personality Sun Aotian had been showing.
Sun Aotian recalled that feeling of brushing up against death at close range, and a chill ran through him.
Wen Yu-he absolutely could not provoke him again. Yeah. Better to stay far, far away from him.
For Sun Aotian to become a Level 2 Class Holder, there was no way he only had that childish, edgy persona he put on. Careful. Cautious. Stay away from danger. People who didn't know those things were already dead!
…
Led by Zang Pengfei, the two of them walked into a wooden room that was passable enough.
"It's a bit cramped. Sorry to trouble Brother Wen Yu to make do," Zang Pengfei said with a hint of apology.
"It's no trouble. If anything, I'm the one troubling Fei-Ge," Wen Yu replied.
After all, you don't hit a smiling face. Since Zang Pengfei was being very courteous to Wen Yu, Wen Yu naturally responded in kind.
Zang Pengfei hesitated slightly, then said to Wen Yu, "With Brother Wen Yu here, we won't need to worry about those Zombie."
Zang Pengfei was forcing Wen Yu to state his position, afraid that Wen Yu might ignore the crisis facing this small Camp.
Wen Yu understood what Zang Pengfei meant and didn't find it offensive. After all, they weren't relatives or friends; if Wen Yu weren't valuable, Zang Pengfei had no reason to be so polite.
This Settlement was definitely not as weak as it looked on the surface!
In Zang Pengfei's hands, there was at least enough power to take down Sun Aotian.
"Don't worry, Fei-Ge. Right now, we're grasshoppers tied to the same rope," Wen Yu said with a meaningful look.
A flicker of understanding flashed through Zang Pengfei's eyes. He knew Wen Yu wasn't only talking about the external crisis outside the Camp, but also the internal crisis within it.
Zang Pengfei, Sun Aotian, and Wen Yu-the latecomer-made up the three major power blocs in the Camp at present. There was a lot going on beneath the surface!
"With Brother Wen Yu here, this Old Brother can rest easy!!"
Zang Pengfei gave Wen Yu an intimate pat on the shoulder and walked straight out of the room.
Watching Zang Pengfei leave, Wen Yu lay down on the bed, a cold smile hanging at the corners of his mouth.
It was only a small Settlement in Chaihe Town, yet the complexity of human relationships was plain to see.
"People are just like this. They refuse to let go of the power already in their hands, and instead want more. Greed may be a driving force, but it's also the root of evil. When your own life isn't even under your control, you still think about such boring things."
Wen Yu would never forget what he wanted most.
Just to stay alive-that was all. Yet it was hard, even for the current Wen Yu.
Not long after, Wen Yu's snoring sounded in the room.
A lot had happened today, and Wen Yu was exhausted.
…
"Tian-Ge." In another crude wooden hut, Bai Feifei was naked, pressed close against Sun Aotian's short body.
"Hm?" After that bout of craziness, Sun Aotian-still a first-timer-didn't have much energy.
"Tomorrow, could you take Xiao'an to kill some Zombie, so Xiao'an can become a Class Holder too?"
Bai Feifei asked tentatively. After all, pillow talk was always easy to blow.
"Hm." Sun Aotian's eyelids drooped; he looked utterly listless.
"Then Feifei thanks Tian-Ge." Bai Feifei looked delighted, but her eyes rippled with mockery and disgust.
Women-especially beautiful women-if they used the right methods, dealing with an inexperienced Kid like this was simply too easy.
