Chapter 48 – A Feast of Slaughter
Volume 2: Battlefield Between Two Worlds
Zang Pengfei sprinted toward the outskirts of Chaihe Town.
Reflecting on every detail of his interactions with Wen Yu, Zang Pengfei suddenly felt that Wen Yu wasn't the type of person to go looking for death.
Moreover, thinking back now, the way Wen Yu's Big Dog had jumped directly into the fire pit when facing the Zombie King was extremely suspicious.
The more he thought about it, the more things felt off. Zang Pengfei pushed himself to run even faster.
As the distance grew, scattered Zombies began to appear along the way.
Zang Pengfei's heart skipped a beat.
Judging by the aimless behavior of these Zombies, they definitely had no leader. Or rather, they had lost their leader.
"To hell with my subordinates."
Zang Pengfei hesitated for a brief moment before cursing under his breath. He drew his weapon and charged straight at the Zombies.
Faced with the choice between potentially losing his influence or strengthening his personal martial power, Zang Pengfei chose the latter!
Within the Survivor group, as the team made its way through more than half of Chaihe Town, Sun Aotian also began to realize something was wrong.
Zang Pengfei had been gone for far too long!
With Zang Pengfei's methods, he definitely had life-saving items. Even if he encountered the Zombie King, he wouldn't be taken down easily unless something completely unexpected had happened.
"Stop! Everyone stop! Don't go any further!"
Sun Aotian shouted at the group of several hundred people.
The crowd looked at Sun Aotian, confused. If Sun Aotian hadn't been the strongest person in the Camp, no one would have given a damn about such an idiotic command!
"Wen, take the team forward for now, but don't leave Chaihe Town,"
Sun Aotian said to Zang Pengfei's capable assistant.
"Well…"
Wen looked hesitant, not understanding Sun Aotian's intentions at all.
In Zang Pengfei's absence, everyone was supposed to follow Wen's orders, but Sun Aotian's strength made it impossible for Wen to ignore him!
"It's possible-I'm saying it's possible-that the man named Wen Yu has already killed the Zombie King! If that's the case, we can move back into Chaihe Town and won't need to run away."
Sun Aotian stated his hypothesis directly.
Seeing Wen nod, Sun Aotian immediately turned around and ran back along the route Zang Pengfei had taken.
Wen Yu sat on a relatively clean patch of open ground, quietly wiping the Steel Blade in his hand.
Aside from being coated in thick gore, the edge of the E-Rank Steel Blade was even starting to chip and roll.
One could tell just how many Zombies had died under this blade by its condition alone!
Surrounding Wen Yu was a field of mangled Zombie remains.
A sliver of white was appearing on the horizon; the pleasant harvesting operation had lasted the entire night!
"Sun, let's go. Time to change locations."
Wen Yu had completely scoured this area; there was nothing left that could provide him with Points.
"I think I'll pass. I'm too tired. I want to go find Zang Pengfei and the others,"
Sun Ruixing said with some hesitation.
To Wen Yu, Zombies were mobile Points, but they weren't exactly friendly to Sun Ruixing!
"Alright, that works. Once I've finished off these Zombies, I'll come find you guys."
After making arrangements with Sun Ruixing, Wen Yu followed the trail of the migrating Zombies and gave chase.
On the other side, after a night of slaughter, Zang Pengfei had returned to the Survivor group.
When Zang Pengfei announced that Chaihe Town was back under human control, a surge of hope for survival erupted from everyone present.
Class Holders were organized to sweep for remaining Zombies, while Ordinary People were mobilized to rebuild their homes.
Everything was trending in a positive direction.
By the time Wen Yu and One-Eye returned to Chaihe Town, it was already the morning of the fourth day.
One-Eye's injuries had completely healed by the second day after the battle. Relying on the dog's keen sense of smell, Wen Yu had significantly increased the efficiency of his hunt for Zombies. Along the way, he had even killed a few blind Mutant Beasts that had wandered out of the mountains.
The Zombie King's brain matter and its Mutated right arm had produced incredible results for One-Eye's evolution.
One-Eye's entire frame had grown considerably sturdier, reaching a height of 2.5 meters. His Physical Attribute had skyrocketed to 25 Points.
It proved that danger often meant opportunity.
This was the harvest reaped after the great battle.
As for Wen Yu himself, after three consecutive days of relentless slaughter, he had raised his Physical Attribute to 40 Points. When he entered his Combat State, his Physical Attribute reached 50 Points.
Level 2 Peak!
"Let's go. Time to find Zang Pengfei and the others."
The massive increase in power made it difficult for Wen Yu to even control his physical strength; even his voice sounded much louder than usual.
"Woof! Woof!" ("Boss, let's go find more Zombies.")
One-Eye stared at Wen Yu with wide eyes, still reluctant to let the remaining Zombies go.
The stronger Wen Yu became, the stronger the prey he would hunt in the future-and for now, the corpses of that prey all belonged to One-Eye!
Naturally, One-Eye wouldn't pass up any chance to make himself or Wen Yu stronger.
Patting One-Eye's belly, Wen Yu said with a smile, "There aren't many large groups of Zombies left. The returns on hunting scattered ones are too low. Besides, I'm exhausted. After we rest for a bit, we'll head into the mountains to kill Mutant Beasts!"
"Woof! Woof!"
One-Eye trembled with excitement the moment he heard Wen Yu mention going into the mountains.
Zombie meat really tasted terrible…
Lowering his massive canine head, One-Eye focused on picking up the scent of Zang Pengfei and the others.
After a moment, One-Eye sprinted forward, with Wen Yu following closely behind.
As One-Eye and Wen Yu advanced rapidly, a version of Chaihe Town that looked quite different from their last visit slowly appeared before Wen Yu's eyes.
The clusters of Zombies that used to swarm the streets were gone. On the main road leading into Chaihe Town, the wrecked and damaged Vehicles had been moved to the side by Survivors.
The ground had been swept clean by the Survivors; aside from some indelible bloodstains, the corpses had been dragged to the roadside and burned in piles.
The power of hope was immense. Chaihe Town wasn't particularly large or small, but the fact that these few hundred people had managed to clear the town entrance showed just how much they yearned for a future life.
By the roadside stood several large wooden signs that read: "All humans are welcome to join the Chaihe Town Settlement."
A large arrow pointed toward the heart of the town.
Wen Yu couldn't help but let out a dry laugh at the sight.
Did these people really think that killing a few Zombies meant they could just rebuild their home?
Shaking his head, Wen Yu picked up his pace.
Not far ahead, a crude wire fence appeared before him.
