Chapter 50 – News of Another Settlement
Volume 2: Battlefield Between Two Worlds
Inside the small restaurant, Zang Pengfei personally seated Wen Yu at the head of the table before ushering everyone else to join them.
Dishes were brought out in a steady stream. As Wen Yu looked around at the people present, he suddenly noticed something was off.
"Fei-Ge, I don't see Sun Ruixing?"
Zang Pengfei, who was currently serving Wen Yu some food, looked back with a confused expression upon hearing the question.
"I haven't seen Sun Ruixing at all. Wasn't he following you, Younger Brother?"
Wen Yu shook his head and didn't pursue the topic further.
From Zang Pengfei's expression just now, Wen Yu could tell he wasn't lying. Sun Ruixing hadn't returned to the Camp at all. Perhaps some accident had occurred after they parted ways.
But what did that have to do with Wen Yu?
In the Apocalypse, accidents could happen at any time. Wen Yu didn't have the energy to worry about what Sun Ruixing was up to. He had only asked because he noticed the man's absence; if there was no answer, that was the end of it.
He lowered his head and focused his attention on the food in front of him.
Most of it consisted of stored potatoes, but the cook clearly had some skill. They had managed to turn simple potatoes into eight different dishes with distinct flavors.
Most importantly, the portions were generous!
While listening to Zang Pengfei delegate tasks to his subordinates, Wen Yu ate and mentally outlined his next plan.
He would keep moving forward and pass through Chaihe Town.
The mountains held too many dangers; it was better to harvest Zombies in the surrounding small towns or rural areas. Once he reached Level 3, he would immediately return to Mudanjiang City!
Simba was a thorn in One-Eye's side, and Wen Yu himself was very interested in that former overlord.
"Brother Wen Yu? Brother Wen Yu?"
Zang Pengfei gently nudged Wen Yu, who was lost in thought, breaking his reverie.
"What is it?" Wen Yu raised an eyebrow.
"I just mentioned that there's something I'd like Brother Wen Yu to help with."
Zang Pengfei had noticed Wen Yu was spacing out and had to repeat what he'd just said.
"There used to be two Settlements in Chaihe Town. We haven't had the chance to check out the other one these past few days. This time, I'd like Brother Wen Yu to lead Tian and observe the situation there. If they're still alive, merging the two Settlements would make us safer and allow us to develop faster. For this, I'll need Younger Brother Wen Yu to put in a bit of effort!"
Zang Pengfei spoke to Wen Yu with a meaningful look.
Wen Yu raised an eyebrow, his response much more direct: "If it's just taking a look, that's absolutely no problem. But if you want me to move against my own kind, then…"
"Hahaha!"
Zang Pengfei immediately let out a hearty laugh. "Don't worry, Brother Wen Yu. This Old Brother understands how things work. I won't let you down!"
Wen Yu nodded with a smile.
Zang Pengfei called it a 'merger,' but in reality, it was an annexation. Especially since the Camp had gained three more Level 2 Class Holders after Sun Aotian, Zang Pengfei's ambitions were growing larger and larger!
And Wen Yu was Zang Pengfei's biggest trump card. As long as the benefits offered were sufficient, a powerhouse like Wen Yu would still work for Zang Pengfei!
This was the fundamental difference between a Lone Wolf and a faction leader.
Of course, this was a win-win situation, and Wen Yu was more than happy to see things play out this way.
"Alright then. Tomorrow morning, I'll have Tian find Brother Wen Yu to help this Old Brother scout the situation."
Seeing Wen Yu nod, Zang Pengfei added hesitantly, "You should still be careful tomorrow. As far as I know, that Camp might have guns!"
"Mm, it's fine. They aren't much of a threat."
After Wen Yu finished speaking, he walked straight out of the small restaurant.
Inside, Zang Pengfei and his trusted subordinates shifted the conversation toward Wen Yu.
"Wen, did you get the measurements?" Zang Pengfei asked the young woman named Wen.
Wen took off her glasses and fumbled with them for a moment, peeling a thin, transparent film directly from the right lens.
She then produced a highly futuristic-looking device and placed the film onto it.
On the device's display screen, the image of Wen Yu eating slowly flickered into view.
"Beep. Combat Power Assessment beginning."
"Physical Attribute: 40 Points."
"Class: Soul Master (Special Hidden Class). Class Rating: SSS-Rank. This class possesses extreme development potential!"
"Current physical condition: Excellent."
Following those few simple sentences, the film on the device rapidly burned away, and Wen tucked the instrument back into her belongings.
Zang Pengfei took a sharp breath when he saw the words on the device.
"A Physical Attribute of 40 points and an SSS-Rank Special Hidden Class… this is insane!"
Everyone at the table was dumbfounded by the Combat Power Assessment.
"Dalong, you've spent more time with Wen Yu than anyone else. Do you think he'll pose a threat to our rule?"
Li Dalong thought for a moment before saying seriously, "Based on our current interactions, he shouldn't. However, this man's strength is too great. If he ever develops any ideas, I'm afraid…"
Zang Pengfei nodded at Li Dalong's analysis, then turned to the bitter-looking Sun Aotian beside him.
"Tian, when you go out with Wen Yu tomorrow, keep a low profile. Don't provoke him."
"Yeah. I'm not actually stupid. I used to think I was the king of the world, but now I've realized I'm just trash!" Sun Aotian said, his face full of bitterness.
The sheer gap in strength had even cured Sun Aotian of his 'protagonist syndrome.'
Seeing Sun Aotian's slightly dejected state, Zang Pengfei couldn't help but offer some comfort. "Don't take it too hard. Since you're running with me now, I definitely won't let you get the short end of the stick."
After seeing Sun Aotian nod, Zang Pengfei took a few casual bites of food and walked out.
Sun Aotian and Zang Pengfei had already hooked up with each other over the past few days.
As the sky slowly darkened, night shrouded Chaihe Town.
Inside a low, dilapidated Residential Building.
Sun Ruixing was startled awake by a noise!
Struggling to open his eyes, Sun Ruixing first surveyed his surroundings.
Inside a dilapidated house, aided by the dim moonlight, all Sun Ruixing could see were bloodstains and human remains scattered throughout the room.
Memories of the past few days suddenly flooded his mind.
After parting ways with Wen Yu, Sun Ruixing had made his way all the way into Chaihe Town.
There had been no danger on the road, but just as he was searching for traces of survivors, several pale-faced humans had suddenly appeared.
These humans attacked him without a word. Their physical strength was a level higher than Sun Ruixing's, leaving him with no way to resist. He was knocked unconscious and brought here.
"Sun? Sun? Are you awake?"
A low voice interrupted Sun Ruixing's thoughts, but his body was tied up and he couldn't move at all.
A raspy voice squeezed out a question: "Who are you?"
"I'm Li Quan'an. Listen closely. I'm going to let you out. Once you're out, go straight to Wen Yu! Tell Wen Yu to come here and kill all these bastards!"
