Chapter 62 – Grabbing the Enemy by the Tail
Volume 3: Rising Winds and Clouds
"Yes, Sir!"
Behind him, Zhao Mingming answered at the top of his lungs.
Wen Yu nodded.
"Relax. I'm not actually your commanding officer. You have a communicator on you, right?"
"Yes, Sir!"
As he answered, Zhao Mingming pulled a silver-white communication device from the pocket of his uniform.
"Contact your scouts on the front line. Have them report the Demonic Creature forces' locations, routes, and numbers."
Zhao Mingming nodded and immediately began operating the communicator.
A while later, he spoke up.
"Reporting, Sir. The basic composition and route of the Demonic Creature forces have been fully scouted."
After saying that, Zhao Mingming pulled a map and something resembling a compass from his uniform, then began explaining the situation to Wen Yu.
"The Military currently knows of four Level 4 Demonic Creature commanders. Today, each of them led a large Demonic Creature force out of Demon City and began advancing in this direction."
Zhao Mingming pointed to the center of the map.
"Their numbers are considerable. Based on our observations, each Demonic Creature unit likely has some special means of communication for relaying information."
"On top of that, the Demon Race has placed everything within a hundred-kilometer radius of Demon City under surveillance."
Wen Yu nodded after hearing Zhao Mingming's report and immediately said, "Give me the direction and take me straight toward the nearest Demonic Creature force."
"Yes, Sir."
Zhao Mingming contacted the personnel responsible for intelligence, then pointed at a location on the map.
"They're right here."
Wen Yu nodded.
"Then let's move. Stay in constant contact with the scouts over there. We'll adjust our course as needed."
Only then did Zhao Mingming realize what Wen Yu intended.
"Um, Sir, are we going there to…?"
"Kill them."
Wen Yu's voice was indifferent.
"But…"
"Obey the order, soldier!"
"Yes, Sir!"
To the Military, orders from a superior took precedence over everything else. Even though Zhao Mingming had no idea how powerful Wen Yu truly was, he still chose to obey!
Even though, in Zhao Mingming's eyes, this was clearly nothing short of suicide!
…
A hundred thousand square kilometers was an enormous area. At One-Eye's speed, it would ordinarily take several days to travel from the Human Race's fortress to Demon City.
Fortunately, Wen Yu was in no particular hurry. He sat atop One-Eye's massive head, chatting with Zhao Mingming along the way.
Through their brief conversation, Wen Yu gained a general understanding of the current situation across the battlefield.
The Military had already discovered the location of Demon City, while the Demon Race had yet to locate the Military's fortress.
Unfortunately, that was only true for now.
As the Demonic Creature population continued to grow, it was only a matter of time before this relatively small region was completely overrun. When that happened, no living being anywhere on the battlefield would have a place to hide!
Zhao Mingming was also rather pessimistic about the outcome of this war.
According to him, the sheer number of Demonic Creature troops pouring out of the three Demon Realm Gates was terrifying!
Every day, an average of more than five hundred Level 3 Demonic Creature combatants emerged from the Demon Realm Gates. That alone was enough to match the total number of Military Warrior personnel currently inside this Treasure Land, to say nothing of the overwhelming hordes of lower-level Demonic Creature troops.
And now, the Demonic Creature hordes had begun conducting search operations under the command of the Level 4 Demonic Creature leaders.
War was just around the corner!
…
Wen Yu had no particular reaction to this.
Whether war broke out or not, and whether they won or lost, had nothing to do with him.
Wen Yu had only one purpose for coming here!
Slaughter!
He would kill every Demonic Creature in sight.
If anything, Wen Yu might even be thinking there were far too few Demonic Creatures here!
There was no sun in this Treasure Land, yet the sky constantly emitted a white glow.
According to Zhao Mingming, there was no distinction between day and night here, and the temperature was fairly comfortable.
The environment treated both sides equally. Neither the Human Race nor the Demonic Creatures had any terrain or environmental factors they could exploit for an advantage.
Zhao Mingming might have been indirectly warning Wen Yu that hunting Demonic Creatures with traps and the like was completely unrealistic.
Wen Yu merely shrugged.
…
Nearly ten hours later, One-Eye sent Wen Yu a mental message from beneath him.
"Boss, I've caught their scent."
Wen Yu gave a slight nod, then patted Zhao Mingming, who was dozing on One-Eye's back.
The moment Wen Yu woke him, Zhao Mingming jolted and instantly became alert.
Wen Yu nodded approvingly at the sight.
These Military Warriors were quick to react and highly adaptable to their surroundings. Overall, they were quite capable!
As soon as Zhao Mingming stood at attention, Wen Yu said, "We've located a group of Demonic Creatures. Get down for now and do whatever you want. Hide here or follow along and watch. Once I've finished off this group, I'll track you down by your scent."
At Wen Yu's words, Zhao Mingming immediately saluted and shouted, "Yes, Sir!"
Wen Yu felt helpless. During their time together, Zhao Mingming had ended practically every sentence with the word "Sir."
"Stop calling me Sir all the time. I'm not your superior."
"Yes, Sir."
Wen Yu finally understood. To put it nicely, this Kid was earnest. To put it bluntly, he was hopelessly inflexible. He had not been in the Military for long, but its strict discipline had already drilled the rules deep into him, leaving him rather rigid.
"Just be careful."
After giving that warning, Wen Yu ordered One-Eye into action!
The muscles in One-Eye's four legs bulged in unison, unleashing tremendous power!
One-Eye had moved slowly while tracking their quarry earlier. After all, traveling at high speed consumed far too much stamina! But now that he knew the enemy's location, One-Eye immediately launched a Charge!
His paws blasted four massive craters into the solid ground, and he shot forward like a cannonball.
A sonic boom erupted in an instant, and enormous waves of displaced air burst outward in his wake!
In the blink of an eye, One-Eye broke the sound barrier!
"Damn it, slow down!"
Faced with One-Eye's sudden burst past the speed of sound, Wen Yu braced himself against the fierce headwind and grabbed one of One-Eye's ears to keep his balance!
"Woof, woof."
"Boss, you're the one who told me to charge."
Wen Yu gave One-Eye's ear a hard yank.
"You're just as inflexible as he is."
Behind them, Zhao Mingming watched One-Eye race away at full speed. After hesitating for quite some time, he ultimately followed.
Clearly, the Kid wanted to witness the battle for himself. Or perhaps he simply wanted to report Wen Yu's death to command as soon as it happened.
