Chapter 61 – In-Depth Reconnaissance
Volume 3: Rising Winds and Clouds
Wen Yu glanced around the small room and did some basic tidying up.
That mostly consisted of laying out the bedding. Then he took the room key hanging beside the door and stepped outside.
By his rough estimate, it had been over seventy days since the Apocalypse began.
That meant there were only around a hundred days left before the Demon Realm Gate opened.
Before then, Wen Yu had to ensure his strength improved dramatically.
He did not need to reach the strength of a Level 6 Class Holder, but he had to reach Level 5. Furthermore, he had to contract a Divine Beast Species for his fifth Soul Realm!
Wen Yu had been craving the power of a Divine Beast Species for a long time!
"So I'd better make every second count."
Wen Yu sighed softly and locked the door.
For the foreseeable future, this would be his home.
One-Eye swiftly expanded and entered his Battle Form.
With Xing perched atop his head, Wen Yu leaped up and landed on One-Eye's head. Together, they sped toward the outskirts of the city.
Three Level 4 Demonic Creatures? Wen Yu alone was more than enough!
…
Standing in the castle, Lin Haifeng watched Wen Yu ride away on the Big Dog and sighed softly.
Beside him, Fang Wenhai looked somewhat displeased.
"Commander Lin, I still think Wen Yu should move with the main force."
Lin Haifeng shook his head slightly at Fang Wenhai's words.
"You don't understand. You've been stationed here all this time, so you have no idea how strong that man is."
Fang Wenhai raised an eyebrow.
"Sequence 2. He might be a little stronger than Kuangliu, but even if he is, charging into an endless horde of Demonic Creatures alone would still be suicide!"
Based on Fang Wenhai's training and experience, the outcome of a war was never decided by a single individual.
Lin Haifeng shook his head and said with a sigh, "Just watch. In this world, the fate of a war will be decided by individuals with overwhelming personal strength! The world has changed, and so has warfare…"
Expressionless, Fang Wenhai watched One-Eye recede into the distance, his thoughts unreadable.
…
One-Eye was incredibly fast. In less than three minutes, he had already left the small city behind.
A barren expanse covered in yellow sand stretched as far as the eye could see!
Wen Yu frowned at the sight.
The battlefield within the Treasure Land was quite favorable. There was no cover, and the terrain was relatively flat.
Unfortunately, the uniform landscape also meant that finding one's bearings would be extremely difficult.
Of course, that was only a minor issue for Wen Yu.
He directed One-Eye to race straight ahead while Xing occasionally took flight to confirm their direction.
Beasts had a far better sense of direction than humans, let alone a Level 4 Mutant Beast and a Level 4 Divine Beast Species.
With their help, Wen Yu and his two Soul Pets advanced at tremendous speed.
They had only one destination: Demon City!!!
…
Less than ten minutes later, several tiny green specks appeared in the distance.
With his extraordinary eyesight, Wen Yu was able to make out their identities: Warriors belonging to the Military.
After a moment's thought, Wen Yu spoke directly to One-Eye.
"Catch up to them."
The Warriors naturally lacked Wen Yu's eyesight. They only spotted One-Eye after the distance between them had been cut in half.
At first, the sight caused a minor commotion among them.
After all, Mutant Beasts couldn't enter the Treasure Land. And judging by the blurry creature in the distance that stood nearly ten meters tall, there was no way it could be human. It had to be a Demonic Creature!
Unfortunately, the commotion didn't last long. As One-Eye rapidly approached, the Warrior on the other side finally realized what species he was: a dog!
There was only one possible explanation for a Mutant Beast appearing inside the Treasure Land!
…
Wen Yu looked down at the soldiers saluting him and considered the situation for a moment before jumping off One-Eye's head.
"What are you doing here?"
"We're scouts attached to the Military Special Operations Team. We just obtained intelligence on the Demonic Creatures and are preparing to return to the Stronghold!"
Wen Yu nodded.
"What did you learn?"
The soldiers hesitated briefly, but ultimately shared the intelligence with him.
After all, the entrance to this Treasure Land was strictly controlled by the Military. It was extremely difficult for outsiders to enter or leave.
None of them had ever seen the powerful man standing before them, but the fact that he was here meant he had to be with the Military. That made him one of their own.
"The number of Demonic Creatures in Demon City has increased again, and a new Level 4 Demonic Creature has appeared. An hour ago, the Demonic Creatures split into groups and left the city. They're probably searching for our location. Some of our personnel on the front lines have already withdrawn."
Wen Yu nodded slightly after hearing the report.
These soldiers were highly professional. They had managed to relay information about Demon City all the way here in only an hour, which meant they probably had access to some special means of communication.
Wen Yu didn't ask for details. He simply looked them over, then casually pointed at one of them.
"You. You're coming with me. I need you to relay information. The rest of you can report that Wen Yu took him. I'll do my best to keep him alive!"
"Yes, Sir!"
The soldiers didn't hesitate and immediately obeyed Wen Yu's order.
The soldier Wen Yu had chosen swung himself onto One-Eye's back and sat bolt upright.
Wen Yu nodded to the others, then directed One-Eye to keep moving.
Once the soldiers were out of sight, Wen Yu turned to study the young man sitting behind him.
He looked young, not even twenty. A trace of down still clung to his upper lip, though the uniform made him look sharp and capable.
He was only Mid-Level 3, which was pathetically weak in Wen Yu's eyes, but within the Military, he would undoubtedly be considered one of the elite.
Wen Yu nodded at the uneasy Class Holder behind him before asking, "What's your name?"
At Wen Yu's question, the young soldier immediately stood and snapped an impeccable salute.
"Reporting, Sir! My name is Zhao Mingming, and I belong to-"
Wen Yu waved a hand, cutting off the rest of Zhao Mingming's introduction.
"I don't need all that. Your job is to follow me and serve as my living map and liaison."
"Yes, Sir."
His attitude was impeccable. Clearly, the Military's training had been effective.
"By the way, are you afraid to die?"
After nearly three minutes of silence, Wen Yu finally turned and asked the question.
"No, Sir!"
"Mm."
Wen Yu considered this for a moment as he studied Zhao Mingming's resolute expression. Then he slowly said, "I'll do my best to keep you alive, but when the time comes, you'll still need to stay sharp and look after yourself."
