Chapter 276 – Lurking Dangers at the Subway Station

By the time they reached the center of New Century Square, three hours had passed since Ling Mo and his group had left the International Building.

But aside from corpses, they found nothing else.

Zombies, attracted by the strong scent of blood, kept coming, causing significant trouble for the Search and Rescue Squad.

“The situation doesn’t look too optimistic. Let me handle the search,” Chen Youdong said, rubbing his eyes.

Zhou Guocheng glanced at him with concern. “Are you sure you’re okay? Ever since we started this mission, you’ve had those dark circles under your eyes, and they’re only getting worse.”

“It’s fine. My search range should cover half the square, which is much better than us wandering around aimlessly. But afterward, I might need you to carry me.”

After speaking, Chen Youdong found a relatively clean spot to sit down.

Only Ling Mo could see the specifics of Chen Youdong’s condition, but even to the others, his state looked dire.

Zhou Guocheng lifted Chen Youdong from the ground and carried him on his back. Carrying an adult weighing over a hundred pounds, he seemed as relaxed as if he were carrying a feather.

The squad members were in excellent physical condition, running at a fast pace. If Ling Mo hadn’t enhanced his physical abilities, it might have been challenging to keep up with them.

Noticing his easy stride, Lin Tianxiang looked surprised, then glanced back at Ye Lian and the three girls. Although they were trailing at the back, they maintained a consistent distance and didn’t look tired at all.

“I’m starting to get interested in you guys. Your physical stamina seems even better than ours, and we’ve undergone systematic training,” Lin Tianxiang said, wiping the sweat from his forehead.

Soon, they came across an entrance to an underground passage with a sign that read, “New Century Square Station, Entrance.”

Xia Zhining, leading the group, stopped and approached Chen Youdong. “Did you detect anything specific down there just now?”

Chen Youdong, having somewhat recovered, nodded. “Not very clearly. As soon as I used my superpower, I encountered a massive psychic rebound. I’m not sure what happened; maybe there’s a powerful zombie with psychic abilities blocking me.”

“Are there such zombies?” Zhou Guocheng asked curiously, eyes wide.

“I don’t know; it’s just a guess. But the subway station is vast. We should be careful,” Chen Youdong said, then lowered his head weakly.

The squad immediately took out night vision goggles from their backpacks, and Ling Mo also put on his Infrared Night Vision Goggles.

“Looks like you didn’t prepare any for them?” Lin Tianxiang remarked. “Just to be clear, once we’re down there, no turning on flashlights unless absolutely necessary.”

The big guy looked enviously at the Infrared Night Vision Goggles on Ling Mo, then sneered and glanced at Ye Lian and the three girls with a mocking tone.

Ye Lian gave him a frosty look, while Xia Na coldly said, “Mind your own business.”

“Hmph, quite a temper…” The big guy was taken aback but glared at them in annoyance before turning his attention to Ling Mo.

However, as soon as he met Ling Mo’s gaze, his expression changed.

Ling Mo was looking at him with a faint smile, but the look in his eyes made the big guy feel incredibly uncomfortable, as if ants were crawling under his skin.

“Damn, what a weirdo…”

The big guy muttered under his breath and quickly avoided Ling Mo’s gaze.

Once everyone was ready, Xia Zhining led the way into the entrance.

The group ran silently down the stairs, the light growing dimmer with each step.

At the bottom, Ling Mo noticed that there was a lot of standing water, just enough to cover their feet. It was unclear where it came from.

In the pitch-black environment, the only sound was the splashing of water, adding to the eerie atmosphere.

The images in the Infrared Night Vision Goggles took some getting used to for Ling Mo.

Ye Lian and the three girls followed behind him. With their zombie traits, they could see perfectly well in the dark.

They hadn’t gone far when a team member suddenly jumped up.

A splash echoed through the tunnel as several gun barrels immediately aimed at him.

However, the team members were well-trained and didn’t fire hastily.

“It’s fine, I just stepped on a corpse… It’s a survivor, probably from Team Tom,” the team member said, still shaken.

Ling Mo looked down at the ground and saw a corpse lying in the murky water. The face was deathly pale, the mouth agape, and the neck almost severed.

“I recognize him. He was indeed from Team Tom, one of the survivors they rescued.”

Ling Mo said.

Xia Zhining drew her pistol, gripping a dagger in her left hand. “We’ll split up. Lin Tianxiang, you pair up with Ling Mo. You two, come with me. The rest of you, go with Vice Captain Chen. Don’t engage if you find anything. Regroup here in ten minutes.”

The Subway Station was vast and complicated. Not splitting up would waste too much time.

Staying together also made them too large a target.

After Xia Zhining made the arrangements, the three groups proceeded in different directions to search.

Lin Tianxiang, holding his gun, walked over to Ling Mo and said, “Let’s go. We’ll head to the ticket booth.”

“Black Silk… its sense of smell is better than ours…” Ye Lian hesitated before speaking.

Ling Mo nodded. “Yes, its behavior indicates that this place is very dangerous. The mission is secondary. You all need to be extra careful. If something’s wrong, we retreat.”

“With so many variation zombies here, aren’t you curious too?” Li Yalin asked with a playful smile.

“Of course,” Ling Mo said, drawing his Tang Sword and heading towards where Lin Tianxiang had gone. “But above all, we need to be cautious.”

By this time, Lin Tianxiang had already passed through a passage and was nearing the ticket window.

Not far away, they could see vending machines and the ticket barriers.

“Since we haven’t encountered any danger yet, I’ll introduce my ability…” Lin Tianxiang said in a low voice once Ling Mo caught up with him.

Xia Na interjected with a smile, “Didn’t that guy with the dark face say your ability was just showing off?”

“Is this really the time for jokes? And when have I ever shown off?” Lin Tianxiang adjusted his glasses鈥”one side of his gold-rimmed glasses had been replaced with a special lens, presumably with night vision capabilities.

“My ability is to create an Energy Shield. It’s both a Psychic Type and a Body Enhancement ability. You can trust its effectiveness and duration; I never do anything I’m not confident in. What about you?” Lin Tianxiang glanced back at Ling Mo, asking.

Just as he finished speaking, a dark shadow suddenly dropped from the ceiling, and a massive claw swiped down towards his head.
