Chapter 311 – Training
“Indeed, having strong Psychic Power makes things much more convenient. Although I still can’t break through more barriers to directly detect situations on the third floor or above, this is already a significant improvement compared to before.”
Ling Mo nodded in satisfaction and then said to Ye Lian, “Three on the first floor, four on the second.”
If Black Silk were here, Ling Mo could easily transmit what he had detected to Ye Lian through a perspective switch.
But now, the distance was too far, limiting this Superpower.
Ye Lian swiftly climbed up to a window and jumped inside.
With her strength as a peak Advanced Zombie, clearing out a few Mutation Zombies was a piece of cake.
Ling Mo, on the other hand, used a Materialized Psychic Tentacle to hook onto a third-floor window and hoist himself up.
In recent days, he had become increasingly proficient in using the Psychic Tentacle. He had practiced this kind of maneuver over a hundred times, so it no longer felt as awkward as before.
In the blink of an eye, Ling Mo appeared at the third-floor window, as if suspended by an invisible steel cable.
This was a biology lab. As soon as he appeared, a zombie jumped from the lab table, screeching as it lunged at him.
“Do you really have to be so enthusiastic…”
Ling Mo rolled his eyes helplessly. Just before the zombie reached him, it dropped like a broken kite, a blood hole appearing in its forehead.
“This time, not only did it completely penetrate, but it also pushed the Virus Gel out entirely, just like an arrow shot at an angle… The biggest improvement is still in my accuracy…”
Two more zombies lunged at him from both sides, and Ling Mo dealt with them using the same attack method.
“One hit the left eye, a penetrating wound. The other had its jaw blown off, but the bones blocked the strike; the force calculation was insufficient, so it didn’t penetrate…”
A Psychic Tentacle shot out from the mouth of the zombie with only a blood hole in its jaw, causing it to collapse, spraying blood.
“Got it, increasing the force by one-third more should be enough to cause a penetrating wound, achieving a one-hit kill.”
Ling Mo crouched down, picked up a blood-stained gel, and put it in his pocket, all the while analyzing the combat experience he had just summarized.
Some superhumans, after gaining their Superpower, immediately feel emboldened. They comfortably enjoy the reverent gazes of ordinary people or feel that just being able to kill zombies is enough, and they become complacent.
But Ling Mo, bearing the responsibility of protecting Ye Lian and the three girls, practiced whenever he had the chance.
The greater the responsibility, the more effort required.
“This level of force should be enough…”
For attacks like this with the Psychic Tentacle, the amount of Psychic Power consumed each time was roughly the same. This was the main reason Ling Mo chose to aim for the head.
By using the least amount of consumption to cause the maximum damage, ensuring a one-hit kill was far more effective than aiming for the opponent’s torso.
“If I can control the margin of error within a certain range each time, I can probably sustain combat for over three hours. That should be enough time to handle most crises. However, my physical stamina is still not up to par. If I continue to improve… Anyway, let’s use up all the Spider Queen’s blood I have on hand first and then see the results.”
Ling Mo pondered thoughtfully.
By the time Ye Lian finished clearing the Mutation Zombies on the first two floors, Ling Mo had already taken care of the zombies on the third and fourth floors.
Watching Ling Mo jump directly from the fourth floor and land silently in front of her, Ye Lian curiously asked, “Ling-Ge, what are you doing?”
“Hmm? What do you think? Isn’t my superhero landing pose incredibly cool?”
“Why didn’t you just use the stairs? The time difference… is negligible, right?” Ye Lian blinked and asked.
Ling Mo laughed awkwardly, “I’m still not familiar with the descent method… Not everyone can jump off buildings so effortlessly…”
This was the escape method he had devised for himself, but due to nervousness, his descent was actually slower than his ascent.
The flaw of Psychic Power is that if a superhuman’s mind becomes cluttered with thoughts, such as anxiety or fear, the actual effect of their psychic abilities will be greatly reduced or even interrupted.
This principle applies to combat as well. Ling Mo had gradually discovered a pattern: when he believed a certain level of force would cause a specific amount of damage, he could control the output intensity of his Psychic Power to match that force.
However, not everyone can be certain of this during a fight.
Once doubt sets in, the attack’s force decreases significantly.
These were patterns Ling Mo had deduced on his own, and they were also the hardest to master.
So far, he was still in the learning phase.
“Enough about that, we need to hurry. If those two girls beat us, we’ll be in trouble!”
This middle school was large, and the two groups had chosen entry points at opposite corners, with the Teaching Building as the midpoint.
This arrangement ensured basic fairness, as both sides had to face a significant number of zombies.
There were many buildings along this line.
Xia Na’s suggestion to add a hunting competition had indeed been effective.
If they had sprinted straight to the destination, Ling Mo estimated it would have taken about 5 minutes at full speed.
But since they aimed to kill as many Mutation Zombies as possible, it took Ling Mo over half an hour to reach the Teaching Building.
Seeing that the surrounding zombies didn’t seem to notice anything unusual, Ling Mo’s face lit up with excitement.
“Ye Lian, it looks like we won,” Ling Mo said.
But Ye Lian shook her head. “It seems… it seems not necessarily.”
Soon, Ling Mo noticed the problem too. His psychic probe revealed that the first and second floors were full of Mutation Zombies, with not a single ordinary zombie in sight.
A thought crossed his mind, and he quickly looked up at the building, just in time to see Xia Na leaning out of a fourth-floor window, smiling and waving at him.
“What’s going on? How are they so fast?”
Ling Mo was stunned.
Xia Na stood above and whistled, saying, “Still don’t get it? Both Senior Sister and I are Leader-Level Zombies. It’s easy for us to herd some Mutation Zombies. We found them but didn’t kill them. Instead, we brought them here as weapons against you! We haven’t reached the top floor yet, Ling-Ge, If you rush up now, you might still have a chance!”
“So clever…”
Ling Mo was momentarily stunned. He hadn’t expected Xia Na to have such strategic thinking and to be so adept at using her advantages.
A zombie that can think is indeed formidable!
“No, there’s definitely still a chance. They don’t have any Gel on them right now! Even if they reach the top floor, without the Gel, they’ll still lose!”
Ling Mo suddenly realized a crucial point. He grabbed Ye Lian’s hand, and the two of them dashed out from their hiding spot.
Xia Na’s shout had already riled up the zombies outside. As soon as they appeared, the zombies immediately charged at Ling Mo, looking quite menacing.
With a swift motion, Ye Lian drew her Tang Sword and leaped into the fray.
The zombies that managed to bypass her fell one after another as they got close to Ling Mo.
“Keeping the Psychic Tentacle within a certain distance helps save Psychic Power. This is what I call the importance of sustainable combat…”
Instead of focusing on mad slaughter, Ling Mo’s training inclined more towards quickly and accurately taking out large groups of enemies.
Because his imagined foes were not just zombies but also armed humans!
The number of Mutation Zombies in the Teaching Building was indeed vast. After being lured here, they nearly blocked Ling Mo’s path completely.
After an intense battle, Ling Mo stood behind the door to the rooftop, rubbing his temples, while Ye Lian, holding her still-dripping Tang Sword, followed behind him.
“Phew! We got all the Gel. Now it’s time to deal with these two girls…”
As soon as Ling Mo opened the rooftop door, he saw Xia Na standing not far away, smiling at him.
Immediately, he sensed something was wrong and called out silently in his mind.
A dark shadow leaped down from above, pouncing directly at him.
The shadow moved like a striking venomous snake, its speed unimaginable, even leaving Ye Lian no time to react.
The moment Ling Mo sensed danger, his Psychic Tentacle instinctively blocked above his head.
But the shadow wasn’t aiming to attack him. As Ling Mo used his Psychic Tentacle to protect himself, he suddenly felt his pocket lighten.
