Chapter 312 – The Peeking Eye
“You lost.”
Li Yalin, holding the bag of Gel, stood next to Xia Na with a playful smile.
Ling Mo sighed wryly, “Alright, you really got me this time. But… I’m actually happy to see you two cooperating so well. Individual strength is limited, after all. It’s only by becoming a cohesive unit that we can maximize our combat effectiveness. Before, your biggest issue was the lack of cooperation between you. It seems that problem is finally resolved.”
As he walked up to Xia Na, Ling Mo raised his hand and gave her a playful smack on her firm backside, “But there still needs to be a punishment.”
“Ah!” Xia Na yelped, “Why did you hit me?”
“Because I wanted to! And because you’re mine,” Ling Mo said with a mischievous grin.
Just as Li Yalin was about to sneak away, Ling Mo caught her with a Tentacle, and she too received a resounding smack on her rear.
“Ah… that felt kind of good. Another one?” she teased.
In the following days, Ling Mo and his team tried various training methods, focusing primarily on coordination and potential development.
After reaching Leader-Level, Xia Na’s strength hadn’t increased significantly, but her Intelligence had greatly manifested.
Her human-like thinking allowed her to suppress the zombie’s natural killing instincts and approach problems with more complexity.
In fact, Xia Na had a real knack for scheming.
“Since I’m not exactly a schemer myself, I’ll leave that to you from now on. Our goal is to outwit our enemies and achieve the greatest victory with the least cost,” Ling Mo said with a serious expression.
“Mmhmm. But, speaking of which, Ling-Ge, how long do you plan to keep squeezing my chest?” Xia Na asked with a smile.
Ling Mo’s face remained unchanged, “Am I? I’m just practicing the grip of my Tentacle using your chest.”
“So… how does it feel?”
“Though small, it’s soft and elastic, with good potential for development,” Ling Mo summarized after a moment’s thought.
“In addition, Li Yalin, your specialty is still ambush. Learn some techniques from Xia Na and aim to kill with one strike every time you go out. The way you are now, you’re wasting your potential. You’re excellent at concealing your presence, even my psychic probe can’t accurately detect you, and your movements can peak in an instant. But your killing technique is lacking.”
After Ling Mo finished speaking, Li Yalin, who was sitting on the edge of the bed, immediately nodded, “No problem, I’ve already started learning from Xia Na. Fortunately, zombies have pretty good memory. Even though I don’t have a foundation in this area, it’s not too difficult to learn.”
“As for Ye Lian, her development is very balanced. Like other zombies, she has strong regeneration abilities and excellent close-combat skills. With some training, Ye Lian should be able to sustain in close combat for the longest time.”
While a well-rounded development might seem mediocre, it has its advantages.
For example, someone like Li Yalin becomes much less threatening once an enemy puts some distance between them.
Ye Lian’s attack methods, on the other hand, are more varied. Ling Mo didn’t teach her any specific combat techniques because zombies, as a species born for battle, have an innate terrifying talent for fighting. Among the three female zombies, only she can perfectly utilize this innate talent.
Xia Na and Li Yalin, though exceptionally strong in certain areas, also have prominent weaknesses.
Over the past few days, there hasn’t been much movement from the Falcon Camp Outpost.
They send out several teams each day, seemingly still in the intelligence-gathering phase.
However, the atmosphere of strict organization and impending action makes it clear that a major operation is likely not far off.
That day, three people walked out from the Outpost. Leading them was a young man with disheveled hair, looking quite haggard. He had a cigarette in his mouth and was flipping through some documents.
“Chen Youdong said that? That superhuman really called one of the girls by that name?” the young man asked without looking up.
A man in camouflage nodded, “That’s what he said.”
“Hmm, from the description, it’s probably her. Damn it, why didn’t they report this earlier! Now we have no idea where that superhuman went!” After a few angry outbursts, he turned to another silent man and said, “Anyway, I’ll leave this to you, Zhang Yu.”
This man was wearing a black trench coat, standing straight and tall. He didn’t look much like a soldier, more like a cold-blooded assassin.
He glanced at the young man and slowly asked, “Yuwen Xuan, why are you so determined to find her? I know she’s your sister, but in times like these… family ties, you should have seen through them by now. Everyone has lost so much.”
Yuwen Xuan’s expression became somewhat peculiar, “What if I told you it’s because I’m getting more and more tired of living? Living like a zombie, standing here every day for one reason only: to survive. It’s easy for animals, but for humans, it’s a bit monotonous and boring.”
“What a boring reason. Got it, I’ll help you. After all, you saved my life once. But the mission still comes first, is that okay?” Zhang Yu said.
Yuwen Xuan nodded and then looked at the other person, “Ma Teng, tell us about our mission this time.”
“First, search every place nearby where we can find bullets. According to the intel, there’s a police station and a military subdivision. We’re facing a severe bullet shortage right now, but once we establish the Quarantine Zone, we should be able to gather plenty of resources. There are many troops stationed in X City, and they’ve left behind quite a bit of supplies.”
Ma Teng finished speaking and sighed expectantly, “Compared to X City, A City’s resources are too scarce. Although it’s good for production being near the mountains and water, to feed so many people, we need X City. I remember there should be an armory here, but the exact location is unclear.”
“Don’t worry, whether it’s the armory or anything else, it’ll all be ours,” Yuwen Xuan said confidently, running his fingers through the hair on his forehead.
Yuwen Xuan casually drew a tactical knife from his waist, cut his arm, then smeared the blade with his blood before handing it to Zhang Yu. “Well, I’ll leave it to you.”
Zhang Yu took the knife, sniffed it carefully, and then extended his tongue to lick it.
As he slowly closed his eyes, Yuwen Xuan’s expression grew tense.
“No, I can’t sense anything. It might be a distance issue,” Zhang Yu said, opening his eyes and shaking his head.
His eyes looked terrifying at that moment, almost entirely white, as if they were about to pop out. It took a while for them to return to normal.
“Damn it!”
Yuwen Xuan grabbed the tactical knife back and cursed.
“Anyway, let’s carry out the mission first. I’ve memorized the scent. If any of your blood relatives within three generations appear nearby, I’ll sense them,” Zhang Yu said, easing Yuwen Xuan’s expression a bit. The three of them then oriented themselves and quickly disappeared into the cluster of buildings.
Meanwhile, within the Residential Compound, Ling Mo let out a long breath. “For some reason, I suddenly felt someone probing, and it came straight to me. Luckily, I blocked it in time, so they didn’t notice. What are those three up to?”
The probing just now was eerie. If Ling Mo’s psychic power wasn’t already strong, he might have been spotted immediately.
However, that sensation was quite different from Chen Youdong’s psychic probe. Unfortunately, with limited information, Ling Mo couldn’t analyze what kind of superpower the other party possessed.
He quickly used his embedded Zombie Puppets to check the situation at the Outpost and discovered those three, witnessing their strange actions.
“The one doing the probing must be the man who closed his eyes…”
At the same time, at a street corner, Zhang Yu, who had been calm, suddenly said, “I just saw a very strange zombie.”
“A strange zombie? What was strange about it?” Ma Teng asked curiously.
Zhang Yu’s expression turned odd. “It seemed like… it was spying on us. It clearly saw us but didn’t come to attack, which is very unusual.”
“Is that possible? Let’s take a look!” Yuwen Xuan said, suddenly interested.
