Chapter 325 – Stray Bullets Fly, Shattered Dreams
“You…”
The moment Wu Pengfei saw Ling Mo, he was utterly stunned.
His mouth hung open, as if oblivious to his surroundings, frozen in place.
It took him a good ten seconds to snap back to reality. Suddenly, he shouted, “You’re still alive!”
Tears immediately began to stream down his face.
He seemed unsure how to vent his overwhelming emotions, repeatedly pounding the ground with his fists, trying to stand up but collapsing back down each time.
“You’re alive too… boohoo!”
Seeing Wu Pengfei so emotional left Ling Mo somewhat taken aback.
Back in the day, their relationship had inexplicably cooled, and Ling Mo thought their brotherhood was over.
Meeting again in this war-torn place, both of their lives had changed dramatically.
The Ling Mo of the past was a clueless boy, but the man he was now could at least understand why Wu Pengfei was crying.
He was genuinely moved to see Ling Mo alive…
The chubby boy from back then was now gaunt and unrecognizable, and though he hadn’t shed a tear when he was nearly beaten to death, he was now bawling uncontrollably.
Ling Mo felt a wave of emotion, his eyes stinging with unshed tears.
A man watched Ling Mo warily. Seeing that Ling Mo seemed distracted, he quickly bent down, grabbed a machete from the ground, and lunged forward with surprising agility, slashing at Ling Mo.
“Ah!”
Wu Pengfei shouted in terror, while Ling Mo remained motionless, as if in a daze.
Just as the man’s face showed a hint of triumph, he suddenly felt a sharp pain in both knees, lost his balance, and fell at Ling Mo’s feet with a thud.
His machete flew from his hand, landing behind Ling Mo, where it was pinned under a girl’s foot.
Xia Na, with her long flowing hair, was strikingly eye-catching, especially with the scythe in her hand, which gleamed menacingly.
The arrival of Li Yalin and Ye Lian also left them all in a state of shock.
In the Apocalypse, it was rare to see anyone looking so pristine. For instance, the short-haired girl had relatively neat features, but her face and body were covered in grime.
However, these three girls were dressed immaculately, with smooth, clean hair and tidy appearances.
Their flawless, fair skin looked as if it could break with a touch. It was hard to imagine how they managed to maintain such appearances in these harsh conditions.
Of course, they couldn’t know that this was a special trait of Zombies…
The higher the level of the Zombie, the closer their bodies came to perfection. Although they didn’t automatically undergo cosmetic changes, their skin naturally became smooth and delicate.
Not to mention, each of the three girls had her own unique charm and was quite beautiful.
Even the short-haired girl was left staring, feeling a pang of self-consciousness.
But the two female Zombies were engrossed in eating canned meat they had found somewhere, not even glancing at the others.
Even the man’s painful cries on the ground didn’t draw their attention.
Instead, Xia Na sniffed the air slightly and then couldn’t help but lick her lips.
But she quickly pinched the hem of her clothes and said to herself, “Stay calm, I don’t like human blood at all!”
By this time, Wu Pengfei had stopped crying. Seeing that Ling Mo was fine, he just began to smile when he noticed Ye Lian walking out from behind.
His expression changed drastically, as if he had seen a ghost, and he raised his arm, “She… she…”
Seeing that Ye Lian didn’t even look at him, Wu Pengfei seemed both disappointed and relieved.
Ling Mo’s two Tentacles had subdued the man and now pointed the gun at him.
From this close, even with poor aim, Ling Mo couldn’t miss.
“Please… I didn’t mean to attack you… please spare me…”
The man looked up, his face ashen with terror, staring at Ling Mo.
Wu Pengfei quickly snapped out of his daze and shouted, “Don’t kill him! He’s not a bad person!”
Ling Mo glanced at him and ultimately did not pull the trigger.
“Thank you… thank you!”
The man began to crawl backward slowly, looking gratefully at Wu Pengfei.
However, his gaze towards Ling Mo was filled with fear.
This young man might not look strong, but his abilities were bizarre and his methods ruthless, leaving the man truly terrified.
At this moment, Leader Guan also struggled to get up, but a flash of ruthlessness appeared in Wu Pengfei’s eyes.
He grabbed the gun that had fallen to the ground, mimicked Ling Mo’s actions to load it, and aimed it at Leader Guan.
“You ungrateful bastard! Have you forgotten who introduced you to the Security company when you were a teenager with nowhere to go? You have power, you’re a superhuman, and I served you like a slave. Shouldn’t you be grateful? But you nearly beat me to death! Yes, some people act like they’re kings just because they have money, but I never treated you that way! I was poor when I was young too, I know what it’s like to have nothing! You were bullied by others, so you treated everyone like trash. What kind of logic is that, huh?!”
Wu Pengfei’s fingers were trembling, and his voice was quivering uncontrollably.
But despite his shaking gun, he seemed to lack the courage to kill.
Leader Guan slowly began to recover from the intense pain. Suddenly, he reached out, his deformed long nails clawing at Wu Pengfei.
Just as he was about to succeed, he felt like his brain was being twisted by a giant fist, causing his movements to slow.
This sudden attack startled Wu Pengfei, and he instinctively pulled the trigger.
“Ahhhhh!”
Flames spat out, and a string of bullets instantly riddled Leader Guan with holes. Wu Pengfei, screaming with his eyes closed, turned Leader Guan into a sieve.
“Holy shit…”
Ling Mo quickly stepped back two paces; a bullet hit the ground right by his foot, narrowly missing him.
Wu Pengfei couldn’t handle the recoil, causing bullets to fly everywhere. Even the small man got hit by a stray bullet, clutching his crotch as he fell.
Several Psychic Tentacles immediately restrained Wu Pengfei, and the gun fell from his hands.
“It’s best for amateurs to stay away from dangerous objects…”
Ling Mo wiped some cold sweat from his brow. Wu Pengfei’s actions just now reminded him of the foolishness he once saw in his old friend.
After opening his eyes, Wu Pengfei was startled by the gruesome state of the corpse. When he looked around, he saw the small man lying on the ground and even noticed that the short-haired girl’s arm was grazed and bleeding.
The others were all crouching in terror, holding their heads.
Everyone’s faces were pale with fear at his reckless shooting…
“I…”
Wu Pengfei didn’t babble about having killed someone but instead slowly stood up, leaning on the roadside railing.
He stared wide-eyed at the scene in front of him and then said, “Don’t kill them! They have nothing to do with this!”
Only then did Ling Mo realize that his gun was still pointed at these people.
He lowered the gun, and the short-haired girl hesitated for a moment before quickly crouching down to check on the small man’s injuries.
Judging by her expression, the small man was probably already dead.
The man at Ling Mo’s feet was helped up by two other young men. They backed away, extremely frightened of both Ling Mo’s group and Wu Pengfei on the other side.
“Get lost.”
Ling Mo casually said those two words, and the three men immediately scrambled away, leaving behind the small man’s and Leader Guan’s backpacks.
The short-haired girl, however, hesitated and looked back at Wu Pengfei a couple of times, but didn’t leave.
“Luo Ni, aren’t you going with them?” Wu Pengfei asked.
“I… I don’t know…”
Luo Ni looked like a very ordinary Survivor girl. She glanced at Ling Mo with a mix of fear and a hint of admiration in her eyes.
As a fellow superhuman, she could sense that Ling Mo was far stronger than Leader Guan.
Especially the way he had fired a warning shot earlier; it was both terrifying and exuded a powerful, intimidating aura.
Although Luo Ni was scared to death, something inexplicable made her stay. Even she couldn’t quite explain what was driving her.
At this point, Ling Mo had already picked up the two backpacks and glanced at the gun.
There were only two bullets left inside. Considering his shooting skills… it was better to leave it behind.
Multiple combat experiences had proven that his Tentacles were faster than bullets. Why bother with something inferior?
