Chapter 366 – What’s the Point of Squatting at That Age?
Static crackled through the walkie-talkie, mingling with Yuwen Xuan’s odd tone: “Ling Mo… don’t die on me.”
He was usually all laughs and jokes, never taking anything seriously, his behavior tinged with a hint of madness.
But this time, his words carried a different weight—a hint of concern.
Ling Mo was momentarily taken aback, then chuckled dryly: “I’m really not used to you being like this! Alright, draw it over!”
“Then catch!” Yuwen Xuan roared, and Ling Mo heard a whistling sound as a wave of heat surged toward him.
A figure was propelled out of the flames, thudding against a wall, using the force to pivot mid-flight: “Ling Bro, here’s the old lady you ordered!”
“Ordered your sister! I just thought you might actually be serious for once, but clearly, I was mistaken…”
Yuwen Xuan’s interruption somehow eased Ling Mo’s nervousness. However, he completely missed the irony in his own words… Yuwen Xuan’s only cousin had already become his, so talk of reservations was moot.
Ling Mo funneled all of his irritation with Yuwen Xuan into his attack on the old lady zombie. Hundreds of mental Tentacles shot out, encircling the intersection tightly.
The old lady zombie, oblivious, rushed into Ling Mo’s trap and instantly felt a powerful force from ahead, blocking her pursuit of Yuwen Xuan.
“Ah!”
A throbbing pain shot through his temples, and Ling Mo’s eyes widened in shock.
The old lady zombie, with her tiny feet and comically brisk gait, was deceptively strong. To stop her, Ling Mo had come fully prepared, but the outcome still exceeded his expectations.
The sudden drain of Mental power felt like someone tugging on a vein, pulling it outwards—a very unpleasant sensation.
Before the old lady zombie could react, the free tentacles at the ends materialized, attacking simultaneously from three different directions.
This was Ling Mo’s attack strategy, tailored to the old lady zombie’s agile movements, with mental Tentacles even emerging from the ceiling and floor. While launching the attack, the substantial drain of Mental power made Ling Mo’s body weaken, nearly causing him to collapse. He quickly poured the Spider Queen potion into his mouth.
The old lady zombie was indeed formidable. Although she had no room to dodge, at the moment the first tentacle pierced her skin, she squatted down abruptly, curling up like a ball and clutching her head.
She was already skin and bones, and with tough skin, Ling Mo’s tentacles could barely puncture her. Had she not curled up, Ling Mo might have targeted her vulnerabilities, like her eyes…
“Who knew grandmas could play defense like this!” Ling Mo was exhausting massive amounts of mental power with each attack, the energy draining faster than the potions could replenish it, yet his efforts seemed futile against the old lady zombie. Despite being covered in blood, she had barely taken any serious damage. Ling Mo even focused a barrage of tentacles on the back of her head, but the old lady zombie, clearly in pain, just covered her head with her hands and pressed her forehead hard against her knees.
Her hands, resembling those of a mummified corpse, made a clanging sound when struck by the tentacles.
“It’s like you’ve mastered some kind of iron shirt technique…”
Ling Mo was getting desperate; his ambush tactics were proving ineffective.
Yuwen Xuan, having just made a swift charge, was now gasping for breath, leaning against a nearby wall, depleted of most of his strength.
He watched in horror as the old lady zombie seemed to slam into an invisible wall, a mysterious bloody hole suddenly appearing on her face. Then, she assumed a defensive squat, her body rapidly ‘blooming’ with wounds, blood spurting wildly.
“Holy crap! He’s really going for it!”
Yuwen Xuan looked over at Ling Mo and started to smile, but then his expression froze.
Ling Mo’s face had turned deathly pale. Although he appeared calm, even Yuwen Xuan could see that his body was starting to give out, swaying back and forth.
“I mean, come on, a grandma like that can easily take out anyone from a school kid to a random passerby with just a touch, enough to make them want to poison themselves. How could you possibly withstand that…”
But as dismissive as he sounded, Yuwen Xuan was profoundly shaken. His own abilities were nothing but a minor trick compared to the old lady zombie, yet Ling Mo had managed to decisively deal continuous damage to her at this critical moment.
“This won’t do, my dignity as a brother-in-law will be completely gone at this rate…”
He might not have sounded serious, but when Yuwen Xuan straightened up, his eyes became very calm, even a bit chilly.
In this moment, his demeanor somewhat resembled that of Li Ya Lin in her zombie state. This look was fitting for one of the three captains of Falcon Camp.
With a composed look, Yuwen Xuan took a deep breath and slowly walked towards the old lady zombie in a defensive squat.
His hands slowly opened, his expression solemn, as he chanted word by word, “The soul of fire, ignite!”
“Boom!”
Two flames burst forth beneath his palms.
At first, the flames were of an ordinary hue, but as Yuwen Xuan’s breathing grew heavier, the color of the flames progressively became purer, more radiant.
When parts of the flames turned blue, Yuwen Xuan was panting like a bellows.
His body was mostly unaffected by the flames, but the edges of his clothes and pants began to burn, the remnants falling away, making him look like a man on fire.
No wonder he used the phrase “burning soul” to hint at his condition. The intensity of the flames indeed seemed as if they were consuming his very spirit.
“Ling Mo, I’m here to back you up!”
Yuwen Xuan roared, partly to alert Ling Mo to coordinate with him.
Ling Mo had been focusing on the old lady zombie, and when he heard the shout and looked up, he was startled.
“Damn, it’s like a specter knight took over…”
But Ling Mo knew this was Yuwen Xuan’s final struggle. His physical strength shouldn’t have been enough to unleash such a powerful move, but humans, despite their physical limitations, have immeasurable potential. The chances of an adrenaline surge turning someone into a little monster were slim, but most people could push through exhaustion for a little while longer.
The real challenge was in throwing oneself into a clearly disadvantageous situation without hesitation, rather than taking the opportunity to run away while still having a bit of energy left to burn.
The old lady zombie seemed to sense the impending doom and tried to roll away like a ball.
But Ling Mo wouldn’t let her get away that easily. A dozen tentacles lashed out again, pinning her firmly in place.
“Yuwen, hurry!”
Ling Mo couldn’t hold on for long. In fact, he was already feeling the urge to mentally prepare himself.
Because the human subconscious has a protective instinct for oneself, after experiencing the intense pain of mental power depletion, it unconsciously avoids letting that happen again. Meaning, the less mental power he had, the more his subconscious would regulate the output.
As for overexertion… not to mention the significant risk, Ling Mo wouldn’t try it, and his subconscious wouldn’t allow it either.
Some people might avoid this with training, but Ling Mo wasn’t one of them.
To achieve this in a pinch, one would need to do something like Yuwen Xuan, engaging in some strong mental suggestion.
“Don’t let me end up like that kind of monster!” Ling Mo shouted.
“Hey, calling it that kind of monster in front of me… that really hurts, you know!”
Yuwen Xuan’s face was as pale as paper, his body shaking uncontrollably. He gathered the twin balls of fire clumsily and then thrust them forward.
The fireballs shot towards the old lady zombie like rockets, exploding at the crossroads and instantly engulfing the area in flames.
Meanwhile, downstairs, a shadow placing two bodies looked up as if trying to see through the ceiling, “Such a fierce fight? Could it be? But it’s just two human Psychics, right?”
