Chapter 537 – Full-Time Robbery
Before leaving, Ling Mo went to find Yuwen Xuan.
In the past few days, the people of Second Camp had become very familiar with him. Not only did no one stop him on his way, but many even stopped to greet him warmly.
“Hello, Ling-Ge.”
“Good morning, Ling-Ge…”
“Morning? It’s already noon! Haha, have you eaten, Ling-Ge?”
At first, Ling Mo responded a couple of times, but he soon realized he was outnumbered and his mouth was getting dry. So, he simply resorted to smiling and nodding, saving himself a lot of effort.
Although Second Camp was nominally still under the territory of Falcon Camp, in the eyes of its members, their real boss was Commander Yuwen Xuan.
As for Falcon Camp? It was so far away, what did it have to do with them…
Even Su Qianrou’s presence couldn’t change this situation.
And Ling Mo? Not only was he Yuwen Xuan’s brother-in-law, but Yuwen Xuan often mentioned him. Everyone quickly understood that although Ling Mo wasn’t part of Falcon Camp, he was the real boss of Second Camp, and even Yuwen Xuan had to listen to him.
Zhang Yu didn’t quite buy into Ling Mo’s authority, but he couldn’t stop his boss from constantly showing goodwill towards Ling Mo…
“Damn, damn, damn! You can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear!”
After several failed attempts, Zhang Yu gave up and focused on his rivalry with Su Qianrou.
So, just because of this, the members of Second Camp went out of their way to please Ling Mo.
Not to mention the Falcon Camp members who came with Yuwen Xuan. When they talked about Ling Mo privately, they unanimously agreed that the capture of the Air Force Corps was basically Ling Mo’s doing.
They didn’t know the details, but they knew they were only there to take over.
Anyone who dared to claim they captured the Air Force Corps would get a faceful of spit from these guys.
“You captured it? Did you even fire a shot? How can you say that with a straight face?”
So, although a few people thought Ling Mo was riding on Yuwen Xuan’s coattails, most understood that it was actually Yuwen Xuan who benefited from Ling Mo.
The former members of the Air Force Corps behaved rather strangely.
Some of them, upon realizing that this young man was the one who had caused such chaos in the Air Force Corps, practically worshipped him. Some even came specifically to watch and bother him.
“Hello, Ling-Ge! To be honest, I’m just an ordinary survivor. I joined the Air Force Corps three months ago, and I had nothing to do with the hunt for you! Besides, I really admire you. Can you tell me how you took down those two planes?”
Several former Air Force Corps members followed behind Ling Mo, chattering incessantly.
“I heard you threw bullets with your bare hands and blew up a building. Is that true?” another one asked.
“Was that even a bullet?”
“What do you know about a superhuman’s power!”
“Come on! You’re also a superhuman. Why don’t you throw one and show us?”
These people were everywhere, making it impossible for Ling Mo to find peace. In the end, he had to resort to the “ultimate weapon” the little witch Xia Na, to scare them off.
Another group of people kept a respectful distance from Ling Mo. He couldn’t be bothered to figure out their motives since he wasn’t planning to stay here indefinitely anyway…
With a smile that nearly froze on his face, Ling Mo finally broke through the crowd and reached Yuwen Xuan’s office.
When he pushed the door open, he found Yuwen Xuan enthusiastically playing chess with Tom.
“Busy, busy, busy. If you need something, go find Zhang Yu,” Yuwen Xuan said without looking up, sitting with his back to Ling Mo.
Tom looked up and gave Ling Mo a smile, then kicked Yuwen Xuan’s chair. “Commander, screw you!”
“Damn! Screw you! … You’re even cursing now, huh? Believe it or not, I’ll have you cleaning toilets! Believe it or not!” Yu Wenxuan yelled angrily.
“Is this a class monitor guest-starring as a commander?” Tom said with a look of disgust, then waved at Ling Mo. “Hello, Ling-Ge.”
“Haha, you guys seem to be having fun…”
As soon as Ling Mo spoke, there was a “pfft” sound, and it was evident that Yuwen Xuan had choked…
Yu Wenxuan quickly turned his head and said, “Ah hahaha, it’s Ling Mo…”
“Forget it.” Ling Mo sat down in the spot Tom vacated. The big guy then went to grab another chair for himself.
“Haven’t seen you around these past few days. How’s it going?” Yuwen Xuan asked.
“Not bad,” Ling Mo replied half-heartedly.
It was more than just “not bad.” In reality, he had packed up everything useful he could find in Second Camp…
There were so many things that he had to reluctantly discard some less essential items.
“So, you’re leaving?” Though Yuwen Xuan was known for being a bit mad, he was quick to catch on. Ling Mo had been out of sight for days and suddenly showed up now, likely because he had something important to say.
What else could it be but leaving?
“Yes,” Ling Mo nodded. “I’ve stayed long enough.”
“Think of it as a rest,” Tom suggested, giving Yuwen Xuan persistent signals with his eyes.
If anyone should ask Ling Mo to stay, it had to be Yuwen Xuan, both emotionally and logically.
Unfortunately, despite Tom’s almost frantic winking, Yuwen Xuan didn’t get the hint.
“Ahahaha… Oh,” Yuwen Xuan responded.
“Damn it! No chemistry!” Tom muttered, rubbing his eyes in frustration.
“Wait a second…” Yuwen Xuan thought for a moment, then leapt up.
This guy never missed a chance to use his superpower. Ling Mo and Tom saw a flash of fire behind Yuwen Xuan as he landed on the table in a bizarre pose, reaching into a drawer.
Though his movements were ungainly, his speed and precision were impressive. However, the wisp of black smoke rising from his backside was rather peculiar…
“Like the rising purple smoke from the incense burner…” Tom suddenly mused.
“Have some common sense… Apologize to Li Bai!” Ling Mo couldn’t help but say.
“It’s just a line of poetry, don’t be so harsh…” Tom pouted innocently.
Ling Mo couldn’t bear to look at him anymore and turned away, saying, “I strongly suggest… you keep your distance from Mad Xuan.”
“Here, take this, take this…”
Yuwen Xuan quickly leaped back, handing a brand new communicator to Ling Mo. “If something comes up, just call. Especially if it’s a good thing like this, the more, the merrier…”
“And what do you think I am…” Ling Mo replied.
“Huh? Aren’t you a full-time robber?” Yuwen Xuan exclaimed. “Both times I’ve seen you, you were out robbing…”
“Let’s not bring up the past…” Ling Mo refused the communicator. “I already have one.”
“Where did you get it? Your previous one couldn’t connect to Second Camp!” Yuwen Xuan said.
“Falcon’s Xiaodingdang1 made it for me… It can connect here too, don’t worry.”
“Who’s Xiaodingdang?” Tom interjected.
Ling Mo immediately felt a headache coming on and quickly changed the subject: “Right, I need you to arrange a helicopter for me. I’m heading back to X City tomorrow with a few people from F Team.”
Even if Niepan’s people reacted quickly, they couldn’t possibly reach F Team’s new base this fast, so Ling Mo wasn’t in too much of a hurry.
“Well…” Yuwen Xuan suddenly leaned in, grinning shamelessly. “Ling Mo, you see… Could you do me a favor? Help me out while you’re at it!”
“What’s the matter?” Ling Mo immediately had a bad feeling. This guy was very good at taking advantage of opportunities!
“Hehe…”
Yuwen Xuan smiled shamelessly.
…
A few minutes later, a man with a crew cut pushed open the door and snapped a salute with a crisp “pop.”
“Commander! Instructor Tang!”
His voice was clear and his eyes bright, but Ling Mo noticed that the man didn’t look at him at all.
Not even a glance, let alone a greeting.
“Come, come, let me introduce you. This is the pilot who will be accompanying you on this mission, his name is Huang Duo. Come on, Huang Duo…” Yuwen Xuan waved him over.
Huang Duo’s stern face immediately showed two black lines: “Commander…”
“Huang Duo, this is Ling Mo. You will be taking two people and escorting them and the remaining F Team members to X City. Along the way, he’ll help you gather some fuel. The recent consumption has been too high, and if we don’t find a way to replenish it, you guys might be out of a job soon,” Yuwen Xuan said.
Huang Duo finally turned his gaze to Ling Mo and said loudly, “Please advise!”
“Whoa, whoa…” Ling Mo was taken aback by the loud greeting, his eardrums momentarily aching from the volume. Was it necessary to be so loud?
Moreover, from the look in the pilot’s eyes, it seemed like he wasn’t too fond of him…
Since he’s a pilot, he must be a member of the original Air Force Corps.
There must be some old members who had reservations about Ling Mo, but to be outright displeased?
After all, Ling Mo had no grudges against them…
“Hello,” Ling Mo said.
But Huang Duo had already turned to Yuwen Xuan: “Who’s in command of this mission?”
“Huh?” Yuwen Xuan was taken aback for a moment, then replied, “Do you even need to ask? Of course, it’s Ling Mo!”
“Pfft!”
Tom almost choked on the side. To be so blatantly biased, probably only Yuwen Xuan in all of Falcon could pull that off.
Huang Duo didn’t expect Yuwen Xuan to be so straightforward. He had likely prepared a whole argument, but now it was all for naught.
His face turned red as he struggled for a moment, then he looked at Ling Mo again: “I’ll leave it to you!”
“Call him captain,” Yuwen Xuan reminded.
“…” Huang Duo was utterly frustrated, “Captain!”
“Alright, alright, go get your two partners ready. We leave first thing in the morning,” Yuwen Xuan waved him off.
Tom added from behind, “Remember to follow orders!”
Huang Duo’s step paused at the office door, then he shrugged his shoulders and sped away.
“This guy’s flying skills are quite good, and he’s done plenty of reconnaissance missions. He shouldn’t be a drag on you, right?” Yuwen Xuan turned back with a grin.
Ling Mo sat forward and spread his hands: “What’s the payment?”
“Payment?” Yuwen Xuan blinked in confusion, “You’ve already taken Li Yalin, and you still want payment from me…”
“Really? Wait, Yalin, you’re here too…”
“No, no, no! Just tell me what you want!” Yuwen Xuan was immediately teary-eyed.
