Chapter 601 – Let Go of That Zombie
This was exactly what Ling Mo was thinking.
The originals of these watery corpses were all ordinary zombies, and the Infection Source gathered them here through some means.
Catching, luring, or slowly bringing them in batches… In any case, anything could be possible; Ling Mo couldn’t figure it out in a short time, and there was no need to overthink such matters.
After being brought here, these zombies were infected by this virus.
It might be through biting or through some other means.
But most zombies couldn’t withstand this virus, and these Unlucky Zombies thus turned into watery corpses.
More precisely, they died during the mutation process, but their bodies didn’t rot. Instead, they became fertilizers, providing psychic shielding and odor shielding here.
The humid and warm gases they produced might even create a greenhouse effect…
Truly universal fertilizers!
However, a very small number managed to mutate due to this deadly virus, becoming variation zombies.
These variation zombies and the mutation species Ling Mo recently discovered are quite different.
The mutations of the variation zombies are visible in their outer features, mainly in the limbs and facial features, with very few having internal organ mutations, which are usually visible at a glance.
Mutation species, on the other hand, are different. When they don’t actively display it, they are indistinguishable from ordinary zombies.
In general, mutation species are products of the union of ordinary zombies and variation zombies…
But the ones here are clearly just simple variation zombies; after all, Ling Mo and his group had encountered several of them already.
Whether these zombies were ready to emerge naturally or were disturbed by Ling Mo’s group, causing them to emerge prematurely, is unknown…
However, it is certain that this place has existed for a long time, and the number of variation zombies cultivated here is definitely not just these few.
Just like the Alpha Zombie they encountered above, which seemed to have originated from here.
That Alpha Zombie being lured out might have been due to Ling Mo’s group getting too close to this underground factory…
“Considering this, how many have been produced over the past six months? Or did this just start recently? Either way, even the failures here aren’t wasted—they’re actually recycled… This really is an impressive factory! I just wonder where the factory manager is…” Ling Mo thought to himself.
But now wasn’t the time to be thinking too much— the zombie struggling inside the mucus wall was about to break through the last layer of constraint! Once freed, a newly born variation zombie would be added to the mix, which would only complicate things further.
Ling Mo stuffed the flashlight into his sleeve, leaving just a bit of light leaking out. With his other hand, he fumbled on the ground for the tactical knife that had just fallen.
This process was quite disgusting for Ling Mo; there was no ground here, just mucus!
Once he had the tactical knife in hand, he shook off the mucus in disgust. “Ugh, what a gooey mess…”
Fortunately, it was just disgusting; he didn’t have any wounds on his hands, and the minuscule virus particles entering through his pores were not enough to infect him.
If something like this could infect him, the numerous zombie viruses and variation zombie viruses inside him would be pointless.
At worst, he could absorb a tiny amount of the mysterious virus, which might even help him develop some antibodies…
The main reason was because of the humid and warm atmosphere; if the viruses could infect him through mere pore entry, he would have mutated a long time ago.
Since he had been here for a while without getting infected that way, a little direct contact wouldn’t make a difference.
However, it was still dangerous for blood and mucus to come into contact with each other. So, although Ling Mo held the knife, he didn’t rush in recklessly.
He hadn’t gotten caught before, and getting hurt now would just be disgraceful…
“Roar Roar!”
The zombie began to growl again, its upper body was almost parallel to the ground. Unfortunately, it was just out of reach, unable to get to Ling Mo.
Ling Mo pursed his lips, observing the zombie while gripping his knife.
When the zombie stretched its body to its limit, and its legs were just about to come free, Ling Mo suddenly charged forward.
Although Ling Mo’s psychic power wasn’t as effective as before, he hadn’t completely given up on using his psychic tentacles.
One tentacle wrapped around the zombie’s arm, while the other wrapped around its neck.
As expected, both tentacles encountered resistance upon touching the zombie.
Even so, Ling Mo tenaciously materialized the tentacles.
Though he couldn’t completely immobilize the zombie, he managed to momentarily slow its movements.
“Perfect timing!”
Without breaking his stride, Ling Mo rushed along the zombie’s arm, using his momentum to drive the tactical knife into its chest.
“Grrr…”
The zombie’s eyes widened, staring at Ling Mo with cruel and cold malice.
Ling Mo gritted his teeth, twisting his wrist forcefully.
“Ugh…”
The zombie’s mouth involuntarily opened, causing a gush of black blood to burst out. It twitched twice before collapsing completely.
Before Ling Mo could catch his breath, a ripping sound came from the mucus layer nearby, and a face suddenly appeared in the tear.
“Roar…”
“Well, the success rate here is pretty high!” Ling Mo thought, speechless.
This time, however, he was prepared and didn’t react as passively as before.
The zombie barely had time to let out a roar before Ling Mo swiftly finished it off with a frontal stab.
“Oh, it just screamed once, and you killed it immediately…” Xia Na’s voice came from behind.
“Even though it’s true, why did your comment make me sound like a weirdo?” Ling Mo retorted, skillfully pulling out his tactical knife and stepping aside.
A stream of blood spurt out, narrowly missing a pair of shoes.
Xia Na, holding her scythe, smiled sweetly at Ling Mo, “Hehe, come quickly and see what we found.”
“What?” Ling Mo asked curiously.
Seconds later, the excitement on Ling Mo’s face faded like an ebbing tide.
Frowning, he stared intently with a slightly odd smile on his face.
“Why… are you here?”
Ling Mo suddenly sighed and reached out to press down.
As he massaged Xiao Bai’s forehead, he asked, “Quick question and answer… where did Yu Shiran go this time?”
“MeGu!”
Xiao Bai shook its head and closed its eyes to enjoy Ling Mo’s touch.
But before it could fully enjoy the moment, it suddenly felt its head being pushed down. “I told you not to run around! Do you have intelligence? Can you understand me? Damn it, have I been too lenient, making you all reckless?”
“Hey, Ling-Ge, you just let it run free…” Xia Na reminded him.
“Heh, I’ve been too kind to you all!” Ling Mo continued to scold.
“Isn’t it Yu Shiran who’s been pampering it? It’s not even around you…” Xia Na timidly added.
“Do you understand? Can you see my anger?” Ling Mo vented.
“Well… It seems to be very bewildered,” even Li Yalin noticed…
Ye Lian silently walked over and then bent down to hug Xiao Bai’s big head.
Ling Mo, with one hand still raised in the air, had no choice but to reluctantly lower it. “Don’t do this… I wasn’t bullying it…”
“MeGu~” Xiao Bai twisted its body in grievance, rubbing its head against Ye Lian’s embrace.
Seeing the mutation panda acting all cuddly… Ling Mo instantly got angry again.
“If you weren’t female… I…” Ling Mo was utterly frustrated.
He felt an urge to shout, “Let go of that female zombie, let me handle it!”
But… there were more important matters to attend to.
It appeared that the earlier commotion was caused by Xiao Bai, but if Xiao Bai was here, where was Yu Shiran?
Moreover, judging by Yu Shiran’s earlier tone, Xiao Bai seemed to be in some kind of trouble…
Just as Ling Mo was about to suggest continuing the search, Ye Lian suddenly said, “Wha… What’s wrong?”
“What do you mean what’s wrong?” Ling Mo asked, shining the flashlight around.
The once lively Xiao Bai suddenly seemed to wobble.
Its enormous body slumped to the ground, its eyes lifeless…
Even though it always had dark circles, it now looked particularly haggard.
