Chapter 68 – Breaking Down the Word “Bite”

The rain had stopped, and cold gusts of wind swept through the narrow, deserted street. The eerie chill carried a strange scent that made Ling Mo sniff involuntarily and frown slightly.

The smell of blood, decay… even several days of continuous rain hadn’t managed to wash these odors away completely.

This was a city in a state of constant decay. Not only had the survivors perished, but perhaps this entire civilized world was dying as well.

Ling Mo found himself lost in thought for a moment, not noticing that Xia Na had been quietly observing the changes in his expression.

Unlike Ling Mo, when the bloody, rotten scent wafted over, a hint of intoxication flashed in Xia Na and Ye Lian’s eyes.

“You seem to really dislike this smell,” Xia Na said slowly, taking a deep breath before looking at Ling Mo with some confusion. “Why?”

Ling Mo was taken aback for a moment, then he smiled wryly and shook his head. “It’s hard to explain.”

“I really like it,” Xia Na said seriously after a few seconds of silence. “But if you hate it, I can pretend not to like it. My memories tell me that as a female, I should do this to make you happy.”

What on earth was Xia Na thinking before…

Ling Mo broke into a cold sweat and hurriedly said, “You don’t need to do that. And stop calling yourself a female. You’re a girl… a female zombie. It’s normal for you to like this scent.”

“Really?” Xia Na seemed uncertain.

Ling Mo nodded and continued to encourage her. “I won’t mind you no matter what. Just be like Ye Lian.”

“Is that so… Sometimes I really want to bite you, is that okay too?” Xia Na asked, staring intently at Ling Mo.

As she asked this question, Ling Mo could clearly feel her gaze piercingly fixed on his neck, and she even licked her lips involuntarily.

“Sure… if you break down the word ‘bite’, that would be even better…” Ling Mo felt a shiver run down his spine. In fact, he had long noticed this, especially when Xia Na and Ye Lian fully entered their zombie states. Their gaze towards him would subtly change. However, due to their psychic link, they had never shown any aggressive behavior towards Ling Mo, except when they were on the verge of breaking the psychic link. Ling Mo rolled his eyes inwardly, but just then, he suddenly frowned.

While he was talking to Xia Na, the scouting zombie was searching the shops to see if there were any zombies present, to prevent Ling Mo and the two girls from being ambushed.

But as the scouting zombie entered a bar, something suddenly struck its hindbrain. Ling Mo even heard the sound of its skull cracking. He shared the five senses with his zombie puppet, so he experienced the process of the puppet being killed as if it were happening to him鈥”except for the lack of pain…

When the scouting zombie fell, Ling Mo’s face turned pale, and his heartbeat quickened.

Ye Lian and Xia Na immediately sensed Ling Mo’s emotional fluctuation through their psychic link and looked at him. Although their eyes showed no emotion, Ling Mo knew they were extremely concerned about him.

Ling Mo cautiously moved to the side with Ye Lian and Xia Na, hiding himself. He then peeked out from behind a neon light and quietly observed for a while.

The place where the scouting zombie was killed was a bar called “Yin Huang.” Ling Mo had just controlled it to walk towards a row of private rooms when it was suddenly attacked from behind.

The main door was open. Typically, survivors wouldn’t leave it like that. Could it be a zombie?

A zombie capable of launching a sneak attack must be at least a mutation zombie, like Ye Lian, or even an advanced zombie.

Ling Mo found it odd that such a powerful zombie appeared in this place, but his desire for the virus gel overpowered his doubts.

That super-pure virus gel was a rare find, not something one could easily come across!

With this thought, Ling Mo’s lips curled into a grim smile as he drew his short knife.

The gleaming blade, with dark brown stains in the blood groove that couldn’t be cleaned, made the handcrafted knife look all the more menacing.

A knife that has taken lives indeed feels different…

“Xia Na, can you sense anything?” Ling Mo knew that mutation zombies seemed to have some special senses, so he asked her before deciding to act.

Xia Na glanced at Ling Mo and shook her head. “Too far.”

True, the distance between them was not close, at least about four hundred meters. If they could sense each other from that far, it would be like having a radar.

Ye Lian’s eyes, however, had a slight red glow. She mimicked Ling Mo’s actions, drawing her curved knife and crouching behind him.

Seeing Ye Lian’s movements made Ling Mo’s heart skip a beat. Indeed, now that she had true consciousness, Ye Lian’s learning speed had increased significantly. She was consciously mimicking his and Xia Na’s combat actions!

The zombie species truly had terrifying potential…

“Ye Lian, did you discover something?” Ling Mo snapped back to attention after his shock and asked in a deep voice.

Compared to Xia Na, Ye Lian’s level of evolution was higher. Moreover, in terms of “bloodline,” she was a purer zombie.

So, in terms of sensing mutation zombies, Ye Lian might be stronger.

Upon hearing Ling Mo’s question, Ye Lian just glanced at him without responding. It seemed she understood that “Ye Lian” was her name but didn’t grasp the meaning of his question.

However, Ling Mo wasn’t too frustrated. Ye Lian’s reaction confirmed that there were indeed zombies in the Yin Huang Bar, validating his suspicion.

“As long as it’s not humans. Compared to humans, I’d rather deal with zombies.”

Ling Mo took a deep breath, trying to get himself into the best possible state. Soon, it might be a life-and-death struggle.

But for the virus gel, it was worth it!
