Chapter 70 – Vicious Weapon
Listening to the suppressed screams of the Survivor, Ling Mo didn’t stop Xia Na. Instead, he immediately opened a water bottle and began washing his eyes.
Although he could completely see the surroundings through Xia Na and Ye Lian’s vision, the situation inside the bar was unclear, and it was necessary to restore his eyesight as soon as possible.
As for this Survivor, he had hurt him, so suffering a bit was deserved.
It wasn’t until Ling Mo finished washing his eyes that the Survivor finally escaped from the continuous, excruciating pain.
When Ling Mo looked at him with his bloodshot eyes, the Survivor’s hair was already soaked with cold sweat. His face, which had been reasonably handsome, was now twisted with pain. If it weren’t for his tightly clenched teeth, his screams might have attracted Zombies from the street.
“Alright, Xia Na, let him go.” Ling Mo’s words were a relief for the Survivor. He looked up at Xia Na, his eyes filled with fear and vigilance.
This girl seemed like she wasn’t using her full strength, yet she nearly crushed his foot. Such monstrous strength was not something a typical person could possess.
Moreover, when she struck earlier, her timing was perfect, and her force was controlled. If she had put in even a little more effort, he would likely be beheaded by now.
Upon hearing Ling Mo’s words, Xia Na gave the Survivor a cold look and slowly lowered her Long Knife.
The Survivor’s body instantly tensed, and a fierce glint flashed in his eyes. However, before he could make any move, a shadow flashed before his eyes, and a fist struck his right eye. With a muffled grunt, the weapon in his hand was snatched away by Ling Mo.
At first glance at the weapon, Ling Mo couldn’t help but twitch his eyelids, thinking to himself, this person is truly ruthless…
Exactly speaking, this wasn’t really a weapon; it was just a Sharpening Stick that had been specially honed. The quality of such a thing was sufficient, but its tip wasn’t sharp. This young man had apparently spent a great deal of time grinding the tip into a flat shape. Moreover, the entire Sharpening Stick was coated with Zombie blood. Given the Virus’s extraordinary vitality, just a scratch from this Sharpening Stick during a fight with a Survivor would be enough to infect them.
Clearly, this was specifically prepared for fights with Survivors.
Looking back at the Survivor, Ling Mo’s punch had knocked him to the ground, and Ye Lian silently stepped on his wrist. The more intense pain made him curl up like a shrimp.
Xia Na’s earlier attack was out of her own will, but now it was under Ling Mo’s control.
Initially, the Survivor’s attack could be considered accidental, but when Ling Mo told Xia Na to let him go, it was evident he intended to continue his assault. If Ling Mo had reacted a bit slower, this Virus-coated weapon could have seriously injured him.
Ling Mo never showed mercy to those who intended to harm him.
This Survivor was tough; although his body curled up in pain, he did not scream loudly.
Judging from his build, he seemed to be a young man in his early twenties, wearing a dirty men’s jacket and sporting a pair of sneakers. His short hair was a mess, as if it hadn’t been washed in a long time.
However, his pointed chin and tightly pressed, cracked lips led Ling Mo to quickly assess him: this was a pretty-faced young man.
“Enough.” Ling Mo instructed Ye Lian to release him, then squatted down and pressed the Sharpening Stick against the Survivor’s neck.
This action made the struggling Survivor freeze immediately; he knew very well the lethality of this Sharpening Stick.
“What do you want?” He looked at Ling Mo warily, his tone somewhat tense. “I didn’t mean to attack you.”
“But you did it on purpose just now,” Ling Mo said coldly.
A strange light flashed in the man’s eyes, and he said, “I just wanted to escape and survive.”
“Cut the crap. You obviously live here in this bar. Escape?” Ling Mo sneered. This guy was skillful, but his lies were too clumsy. No one would go out of their way to hunt Zombies in a bar like this. Besides, from Ling Mo’s perspective, there probably hadn’t been a single Zombie here except for the two he had specifically controlled to enter today. From this standpoint, this place actually seemed like a pretty decent spot to live.
However, just as he finished speaking, Ling Mo suddenly thought of something fishy. He gave the man a deep look and abruptly asked, “Are you trying to lure us out? What, are there others here?”
At this point, Ling Mo glanced at Ye Lian.
Ye Lian’s earlier reaction clearly indicated there were Zombies here, but unexpectedly, a Survivor showed up instead. Ye Lian’s instincts couldn’t possibly be wrong, and this guy’s behavior was so strange. Maybe there was some hidden secret in this bar.
Could there be another superhuman like him who could control Zombies? No… if there were, they wouldn’t send a living person out to take risks. But either way, there was definitely something off about this bar.
Sure enough, upon hearing Ling Mo’s question, a flash of panic crossed the man’s face. Though he tried hard to conceal it and the dim lighting made it difficult for most to notice, Ling Mo could share vision with Xia Na and Ye Lian. And as luck would have it, Zombies had excellent night vision.
“You seem quite nervous. Looks like I hit the mark,” Ling Mo said calmly.
The man looked conflicted, bit his lip, and suddenly said, “What do you want? Supplies? I’ll be honest, I’m broke and have no food.”
Ling Mo was initially taken aback but then scoffed, “I’m not here to rob you. I want to know… never mind. Judging by your look, you won’t tell me anyway. I’ll find out myself.”
With that, Ling Mo stood up. Seeing an opportunity, the man struggled to get up but was kicked back down by Ling Mo. Ye Lian then yanked him up, twisting his arms behind his back.
The man wasn’t very tall, slightly shorter than Ye Lian. Although Ye Lian was a girl, he had no chance to resist while being restrained by her.
Ling Mo observed coldly, noting the man’s panicked eyes, which further confirmed his suspicions. There was definitely something weird about this place!
After checking the rooms along the hallway, he found nothing. Ling Mo even searched the restroom鈥”since being ambushed by that Advanced Zombie, he had a hunch that Zombies might have a preference for dark, cramped spaces like restrooms.
Unfortunately, the restroom was also empty.
After returning to the hallway, Ling Mo frowned in frustration. But then, he noticed that the Survivor seemed to be subtly relieved.
Ling Mo glanced at him a few times and suddenly smiled, “Wherever I go, your eyes follow. But I’ve noticed there’s one place you deliberately avoid looking at.”
The Survivor’s expression instantly turned to shock, and he began to struggle frantically. Unfortunately for him, in Ye Lian’s hands, he was no different from a sick cat.
“How…how did you find out?” Realizing he couldn’t break free, the man’s eyes took on a crazed look as he asked in a low, hoarse voice.
Seeing the intense reaction, Ling Mo felt even more confident in his suspicion.
The Survivor had assumed that in this dim environment, Ling Mo wouldn’t notice the changes in his gaze. After all, Ling Mo had been walking in front; unless he had eyes on the back of his head, how could he have noticed?
The Survivor would probably rack his brain trying to figure this out, but Ling Mo had no intention of explaining.
“Don’t go over there! I just accidentally hurt you! Isn’t an apology enough?” The man seemed extremely nervous, repeating his plea.
Ling Mo snorted coldly, “I already said, I don’t know if you did it on purpose at first. But just now, you clearly tried to kill me. And this…” he said, shaking the Sharpening Stick, “you don’t seem very friendly to Survivors either.”
“That…that’s just my weapon. If an apology isn’t enough, you can beat me up,” the man tried to argue.
Ling Mo shook his head with a smile and stopped paying attention to him.
Indeed, it’s hard for most people to tell if the blood on the Sharpening Stick is from a regular person or a Zombie. But Ling Mo’s Psychic Power was almost on par with that of Zombies!
His sense of smell for blood hadn’t changed, but he had a unique reaction to the scent of the Virus.
To Ling Mo, the Sharpening Stick smelled not only of strong blood but also faintly of a scent indicating the presence of the Virus鈥”subtle but unmistakable, suggesting it had been smeared multiple times to achieve this effect.
The man might claim he never cleaned his weapon after killing Zombies, but only a fool would believe such an excuse.
Most people would avoid Zombie blood like the plague, considering it deadly. Even Ling Mo would clean his Short Knife after a fight, except for the blood that was impossible to remove from the grooves.
The Survivor’s attempt to cover up only confirmed Ling Mo’s suspicion. Ruthlessness isn’t inherently wrong; ordinary people must go to great lengths to survive. But using such malicious tactics made Ling Mo have no sympathy for this Survivor, nor would he be swayed by his excuses.
