Chapter 71 – The Superpower Girl
Seeing that Ling Mo was walking steadfastly towards the end of the corridor, the Survivor’s eyes instantly became extremely despondent.
At the end of the corridor was a door, but some debris had been deliberately piled up in front of it. With no lighting, it was difficult to notice at a glance.
If not for Ling Mo’s keen observation skills, he might have missed the clue.
After opening the door, what appeared in front of him was actually a kitchen.
The kitchen was equally dark. Ling Mo looked around and found that the only window had been blocked with various items, allowing just a sliver of light to penetrate through the gaps.
There weren’t many things inside, and it seemed to have been meticulously organized. Against one wall, there was a mat laid out, with a plastic basket next to it containing some food, mostly expired bread slices and some dried fruits, probably found in the bar. Additionally, there was quite a stockpile of liquor, neatly arranged on the stove.
What struck Ling Mo as odd was the absence of any other person in the room. Could Ye Lian’s instinctive sense have been wrong?
At that moment, the Survivor, now escorted by Ye Lian, entered the room. Seeing Ling Mo seemingly finding nothing, he hurriedly said, “I really have nothing. If you fancy anything, feel free to take it.”
His reaction reassured Ling Mo, who had been somewhat unsure.
As the Survivor’s eyes grew increasingly frantic, Ling Mo began to search the walls slowly, eventually stopping in front of a double-door refrigerator.
Seeing Ling Mo place his hand on the fridge, the Survivor’s eyes widened in panic, closely monitoring Ling Mo’s every move.
However, as Ling Mo moved to the side of the fridge and began to push it, the last glimmer of hope in the Survivor’s heart vanished.
Pushing the refrigerator, Ling Mo wondered what was hidden behind it that made the man so nervous.
In truth, this concealment wasn’t very clever. A few more glances would reveal that the refrigerator’s position was indeed odd. Ling Mo speculated that there must be another door behind the fridge.
Sure enough, when the refrigerator was pushed aside, a security door appeared, with an iron plate hanging on it: “Warehouse.”
So this was the warehouse of Yin Huang Bar… The liquor on the stove probably came from this warehouse.
Ling Mo slowly turned the door handle, but just as he opened the door, a dark figure suddenly lunged at him, startling him into a quick retreat, and his Psychic Tentacle was instantly unleashed.
The figure, influenced by the Psychic Power, abruptly stopped mid-lunge as if it had hit an invisible wall. In reality, it was just the effect of Ling Mo’s psychic power.
Nearly being pounced on left Ling Mo a bit annoyed. His Psychic Tentacle wasn’t yet fully controllable, and its use wasn’t very flexible. Clearly, he needed more practice.
Upon closer inspection, Ling Mo was taken aback. The one who had lunged at him was a delicate-looking girl, about the same age as Ye Lian, but her face was extremely pale, and her lips were chapped, as if she were gravely ill.
No wonder the Survivor was so nervous. In his eyes, someone as ruthless as Ling Mo might not hesitate to harm this girl.
She held a sharp piece of metal in her hand and was staring at Ling Mo in shock, unable to understand why her attack had inexplicably failed, stopping before she even reached him.
“Who are you?” The girl’s eyes were somewhat unfocused, but she quickly opened her mouth to ask.
Ling Mo was also a bit stunned. According to Ye Lian’s reaction, wasn’t there supposed to be a Zombie in here? Why was it a girl instead?
Moreover, the girl showed no signs of mutation and was clearly human.
Seeing Ling Mo remain silent, the girl shifted her gaze behind him and immediately frowned. Her anger surged when she saw the Survivor with a black eye. “Let Shi Bin go!”
Without hesitation, she attacked again.
At this moment, Ling Mo noticed something unusual about the girl. She didn’t seem particularly fast, but when she rushed at him, his attempts to block her were futile, and the piece of metal in her hand cut through his jacket.
If he hadn’t used his Psychic Tentacle to mislead her at the last moment, he might have been injured.
This shocked Ling Mo greatly. One mistake was understandable, but after narrowly avoiding injury several times, a term finally flashed through his mind: superhuman.
This girl was definitely a superhuman!
So, was Ye Lian’s reaction because she had sensed a superhuman?
Although he had encountered Wang Lin, another superhuman, before, Ye Lian hadn’t yet developed true consciousness at that time. Perhaps it was only after she gained true consciousness that she could sense superhumans.
This situation made Ling Mo feel a bit strange.
Superhumans among ordinary people might be akin to Mutation Zombies among zombies, both undergoing some form of evolution. Could there be some subtle connection between the two?
However, the fact that Ye Lian could sense superhumans was good news. After all, it’s not easy to identify a superhuman at first glance since they don’t have any distinguishing marks on their foreheads.
As Ling Mo’s thoughts wandered, the girl’s attacks became even more fierce. Her movements weren’t fast, but she somehow always managed to evade all of Ling Mo’s counterattacks and find openings.
Ling Mo’s heart tightened. His Psychic Tentacle seemed to envelop the girl completely, constantly disrupting her attacks. After several interruptions, Ling Mo finally spotted a flaw. He pressed his Sharpening Stick against the girl’s throat.
Her response was indeed quick, likely due to her superhuman abilities. Even with the Sharpening Stick at her throat, she managed to escape in a bizarre manner.
But Ling Mo wasn’t about to let her go so easily. As she sidestepped, he grabbed her arm and slammed her against the wall.
After the brief struggle, a flush appeared on the girl’s face, but her eyes grew even dimmer. Forcing herself to fight had drained her energy.
If it weren’t for her strange abilities, she wouldn’t have been able to touch Ling Mo at all.
“Don’t touch her!” The Survivor immediately shouted hoarsely, “What kind of man are you, bullying a girl!”
“Trying to provoke me?” Ling Mo sneered and turned his head. “She attacked me first, didn’t she? Both of you, a man and a woman, have issues鈥”always picking a fight with me.”
“You captured Shi Bin and beat him up like that… cough cough… I was just trying to save him,” the girl said, her voice weakening as her strength waned. Ling Mo, seeing she was no longer a threat, decided to let her go.
“I didn’t capture him; he attacked me first.” Ling Mo pointed to his own eyes. “See this?”
The girl stared at Ling Mo’s still-reddened eyes and then gave a faint, tired smile. “My chili powder worked well, didn’t it?”
“You came up with that?” Ling Mo was momentarily taken aback.
“Hmph.” The girl grunted and then said, “If he hasn’t apologized to you, then I’ll apologize on his behalf. I see you’ve already beaten him up. Can you let him go now?”
“No rush. I have some questions for you.” Ling Mo smiled slightly, while the girl looked puzzled.
Shi Bin, the Survivor, shouted again, “What do you want? Leave her alone!”
The girl coughed a couple of times and said, “Shi Bin, stop worrying. Can’t you see he’s with two beautiful women? He wouldn’t be interested in me…”
“But last time…” Shi Bin argued, his face turning red.
“Enough. We can’t beat him, and we can’t escape either, cough cough…” The girl’s illness seemed severe, but Ling Mo suspected she was also seriously injured, as her left hand appeared weak.
From Shi Bin’s tone, it seemed some Survivors had previously harbored ill intentions toward the girl…
But this girl was quite clever. Ling Mo, who wasn’t lacking in female company, wouldn’t harm a girl who looked so frail and sickly, as if she could pass away at any moment.
He wasn’t a ruthless thug like the Bald Man…
Ling Mo’s curiosity was piqued, but he had more pressing questions. “You’re a superhuman, aren’t you?”
The girl looked at Ling Mo in surprise but quickly understood. “So, it wasn’t my eyes playing tricks on me earlier; it was your power affecting me. You’re a superhuman too.”
Hearing this, Shi Bin immediately widened his eyes in disbelief. His gaze towards Ling Mo became incredibly complex.
“I know Shi Bin’s actions might have been a bit extreme, but he did it for my sake. Can you let him go?” the girl asked again.
Ling Mo rubbed his nose. “He did it for your sake, but what does that have to do with me? Anyway, I’m curious about your superpower…”
“Bullet Time. My power is called Bullet Time,” the girl replied straightforwardly.
Ling Mo was momentarily stunned. He had some understanding of the concept of Bullet Time. It allowed one to slow down actions, making it a potent ability if used correctly!
But seeing how frail the girl was, this superpower seemed to have limited usefulness.
“You’re quite straightforward…” Ling Mo was somewhat surprised at her openness about her superpower.
The girl smiled. “You’re a superhuman too, so telling you doesn’t matter much. Besides, I’m your captive now, and my friend is in your hands. What choice do I have?”
This girl was indeed very clever. Initially, Ling Mo thought Shi Bin was a calm and composed Survivor. But seeing this girl, he had a hunch that Shi Bin’s actions were probably influenced by her guidance.
Her sudden attack earlier was a culmination of all her strength, relying on her superpower to catch people off guard. Normally, it would have worked easily on an average person.
However, she miscalculated, not expecting Ling Mo to be a superhuman as well, and one that outmatched her.
After her failure, the girl exhibited a rare calmness. This made Ling Mo think that if she were healthy, she definitely wouldn’t have ended up hiding out here.
