Chapter 74 – Clearly Wants to Bite Me

“The number of superhumans… shouldn’t be many. At our school, as far as I know, besides me, there’s only one other person. But that person is quite troublesome, so it’s best to avoid them if possible.”

Lin Luanqiu smiled meaningfully but seemed unwilling to elaborate on that superhuman.

Out of more than three thousand Survivors, there were only two superhumans. This ratio is indeed very small. However, using the Survivors of X City University as a base is obviously not accurate.

Ling Mo, however, had an even bigger question in his mind. He glanced at Lin Luanqiu twice before finally asking, “How did you get your superpower?”

Lin Luanqiu was taken aback for a moment. In those always calm yet slightly dim eyes, a trace of something different flashed. She was silent for a while before hesitantly saying, “I don’t know. It’s like I was born with it. Why, is it the same for you?”

Ling Mo sighed inwardly and nodded helplessly.

“Could it be some kind of high-tech or an alien invasion?” Shi Bin suddenly interjected. “Like in the movies, where a chip is implanted in your brain?”

At his words, Lin Luanqiu immediately lowered her head speechlessly, while Ling Mo couldn’t help but let out a cold laugh.

This guy really doesn’t think things through.

Just as Ling Mo thought, superhumans and Mutation Zombies are both evolutionary groups of their respective species. How could this be explained away with high-tech or alien theories?

Even if we take a step back and assume there are aliens, why would they need to implant chips in human brains? To help some humans defeat zombies and find a way to survive?

Ling Mo couldn’t care less about what others thought, but he didn’t believe it at all. Seeing Lin Luanqiu’s expression of “I don’t know him,” she clearly found the idea ridiculous as well.

“Forget it. Thinking about it is useless. Figuring out how to use our superpowers effectively is what really matters.” Ling Mo’s seemingly nonchalant attitude made Lin Luanqiu look at him twice.

As a superhuman, one would think this question would be of great concern… But there’s no denying that Ling Mo was right. In the face of an unsolvable problem, speculating more is useless.

The two chatted a bit more, and Lin Luanqiu then took on a deliberately flattering posture, suggesting, “I’ll sleep outside; you all can have this place.”

But Ling Mo smiled and shook his head, “No need, I’ll stay in the kitchen.”

What a joke. How could he stay in such a completely enclosed place? Although Lin Luanqiu seemed very smart, Shi Bin was clearly a hotheaded guy. Besides, this was just on the surface; he wasn’t ready to trust Lin Luanqiu yet.

What if they blocked the door and set a fire? They could easily smoke him out if they were after his belongings. In short, one could never be too careful.

Even when Ling Mo usually found places to stay, his top priority was always an escape route. Some Survivors might think that the more enclosed a place is, the safer it is, but Ling Mo believed that having enough escape routes was essential.

This habit probably stemmed from his initial experiences controlling Zombies. Back then, he often lost connection with his Zombie Puppets during sleep, and he had several close calls. Imagine if he had been in a completely enclosed space during those times; he’d probably have become nothing but ashes by now.

Although this issue could be easily resolved by leaving Ye Lian and Xia Na outside, who knows if these two female Zombies might kill Lin Luanqiu and Shi Bin while he was asleep?

Seeing that Ling Mo didn’t appreciate her gesture, Lin Luanqiu didn’t insist. Instead, she said, “Alright. Tomorrow, Shi Bin needs to take care of me, so he probably won’t be of much help to you. How about this: let him keep watch in the outer room tonight. After all, the fact that Zombies came today means this place might no longer be safe.”

This suggestion also had the undertone of making Shi Bin atone for his actions, and Ling Mo had no reason to disagree, so he nodded.

However, he thought to himself that this place was actually very safe. Those two Zombies had come in entirely under his control. But the thought of making Shi Bin stay up all night on guard duty was quite satisfying.

Time passed quickly, and before they knew it, evening had come. During this time, Ling Mo took out some food, and the variety was a huge visual shock to Lin Luanqiu and Shi Bin, who were used to eating expired bread.

Shi Bin gnawed on his bread with gritted teeth, while Ling Mo paid him no mind. Instead, he handed a pack of cookies to Lin Luanqiu. “Eat up. With some energy, we can move faster tomorrow.”

Shi Bin’s eyes widened, but Lin Luanqiu seemed not to notice his stare. She accepted the cookies graciously and asked, “Aren’t the two of them going to eat?”

“This place is uncomfortable; we’ll go get some fresh air,” Xia Na, who had been silent until now, said somewhat stiffly as she glanced at Lin Luanqiu. Then she took Ye Lian’s hand and led her outside.

Ling Mo’s heart stirred at the sight. It seemed that Xia Na was becoming quite adept at reading the atmosphere, even understanding the use of such an excuse.

“I’ll go check on them,” Ling Mo said, seizing the opportunity to slip away. Although Ye Lian and Xia Na’s behavior was a bit odd, they wouldn’t be together for long, and as long as he was somewhat cautious, their secret wouldn’t be exposed.

“Look at that attitude…” As soon as Ling Mo’s figure disappeared through the door, Shi Bin couldn’t help but mutter angrily under his breath.

Lin Luanqiu slowly tore open the packaging and a hint of disappointment flashed in her eyes as she looked at Shi Bin. “He’s already quite easy to deal with. Shi Bin’s face flushed red then white at Lin Luanqiu’s words. Finally, he clenched the bread in his hand tightly, and said somewhat unwillingly, “Lin Luanqiu, I feel like you’ve changed.”

Lin Luanqiu leaned back, a hint of exhaustion on her face. “I’ve been teaching you how to fight in every possible way these past few days, but your progress is still limited. I don’t want to die. Surviving until now hasn’t been easy, and as a superhuman, I can’t just die so simply. I still want to return to my hometown to find my parents… He is powerful, and I want to follow him to find a way to survive. Is that so wrong? If you truly care about me, stop provoking him. Once we reach the school hospital, we’ll naturally part ways. Why make things difficult?”

“I’m just afraid he’s like those other people!” Shi Bin gritted his teeth.

Lin Luanqiu’s gaze grew even more disappointed. “I don’t want to explain this again. Just trust me, okay?”

Of course, Ling Mo didn’t hear any of this conversation. He was busy watching Xia Na and Ye Lian with a baffled expression.

These two female Zombies had run into the kitchen and become intensely interested in the alcohol on the stove. Naturally, Xia Na, who had regained many memories, led the way. She grabbed a bottle of liquor, a thoughtful look in her eyes. “I remember… drinking this felt good.”

It seemed Xia Na wasn’t a goody-two-shoes in her past life if she had such memories of alcohol…

When Ling Mo came out, Xia Na had already used brute force to open a bottle of beer. Not only had she taken several gulps herself, but she also coaxed Ye Lian into drinking some.

Ling Mo didn’t know how they communicated with each other, but considering Ye Lian had developed a true consciousness, basic communication with her kind probably wasn’t too difficult.

“Thankfully, Ye Lian seems to handle her alcohol well, and Xia Na shouldn’t be too bad either…” Ling Mo thought. He decided not to take the bottle from them. In his view, exposing these two female Zombies to new experiences wasn’t a bad idea. Even if their nature couldn’t be entirely human again, gaining more understanding of human society and habits might not be a bad thing.

However, what Ling Mo didn’t anticipate was that the two female Zombies got drunk before they even finished the first bottle of beer!

Though their faces remained pale, their eyes were slightly reddened—just enough to match Ling Mo’s current state and avoid attracting suspicion about their Zombie identities.

But the critical issue was that their mental waves suddenly intensified, and the way they looked at Ling Mo became quite peculiar…

“No way, can Zombies not handle alcohol? Wait… Alcohol probably awakens their instincts…”

Ling Mo thought with a grimace, slowly retreating.

The first to lunge at Ling Mo was Ye Lian. However, just as she opened her mouth, a look of struggle crossed her face, and she stopped.

But Xia Na was different. She directly lunged at Ling Mo, grabbing his arm.

Ling Mo barely managed to use his psychic tentacle to stop Xia Na’s further actions, saying, “Didn’t you promise not to bite me…”

Xia Na paused for a moment, then relentlessly moved closer again, saying, “I won’t bite you… I just want to… kiss…”

Her arms wrapped around Ling Mo’s, and her slightly reddened eyes locked onto his lips, inching closer.

Perhaps due to their psychic link, Ling Mo’s psychic tentacle had little effect on Xia Na, and after consuming alcohol, she became even harder to control.

The worst part was, Ye Lian also lunged again, grabbing Ling Mo’s other arm.

“What kind of kiss is this? You clearly want to bite me…” Ling Mo was pushed back step by step until the three of them fell onto the bedding together.

Though these two female zombies were driven wild by the alcohol, the psychic link with him remained, preventing them from hurting him. But Ling Mo dared not take advantage of the situation. Even though they clung to him like octopuses, Ling Mo didn’t dare relax.

Hearing the commotion outside, Shi Bin came out of the storage room.

Seeing this embarrassing scene, Shi Bin’s expression became quite colorful. He stood there dumbfounded for a good ten seconds before hurriedly turning around to close the storage room door. Adopting a “see no evil” attitude, he quickly crossed the kitchen.

It wasn’t until he slammed the kitchen door shut with a “bang” that Shi Bin angrily spat, “It’s not even dark yet, and they’re already acting so shamelessly…”
