Chapter 91 – Hello Everyone, We Are the “Zombie” Duo
For safety reasons, Ling Mo specifically placed Lin Luanqiu on the second floor. Although there were also beds on the first floor, it was too close to the main entrance. If any zombies approached, it could cause unnecessary trouble.
As Ye Lian helped Lin Luanqiu onto the hospital bed, Ling Mo and Xia Na began to inspect the second floor separately.
Like the first floor, there were no zombies on the second floor. It was very clean.
Could it be that there really are no zombies here? In such a spooky School Hospital, not seeing a single zombie felt rather eerie to Ling Mo.
When someone has been on edge for a long time, suddenly being in a relatively safe environment doesn’t actually bring relief. Instead, it makes them more nervous. This is because they’ve become accustomed to an atmosphere filled with danger and have gotten used to being tense.
It’s quite sad to think about. The Apocalypse hasn’t been here for long, yet it feels like an eternity. Both the mindset and the attitude towards the surrounding environment have undergone drastic changes, to the point that this seems like the new normal.
Ling Mo even wondered if, should the world suddenly become peaceful again and all zombies revert to normal, he would find that kind of life unreal.
“What am I thinking…” Ling Mo was startled by his own thoughts and quickly shook his head, mocking himself. “As if that would ever happen. Ling Mo, having this kind of confused mentality could get you killed. Focus.”
With that thought, Ling Mo decided to head to the third floor, leaving Xia Na to search for medicine on the first and second floors.
In his view, if there were any Mutation Zombies in this building, they would have sensed Xia Na and Ye Lian’s presence by now and would have come out on their own. If it was just ordinary zombies, he could handle them by himself without any worries.
The third floor was actually only half the size of the second floor, with the other half being a rooftop terrace. This architectural style seemed quite popular at X City University. To Ling Mo, it was essentially creating more spots for couples to have their dates. Not to mention, even if someone decided to get intimate up here, they wouldn’t be discovered and could enjoy the thrill to the fullest.
To reinforce his notion, Ling Mo found a used condom and some tissues stuck to the ground at the entrance to the rooftop.
“Quite the enthusiasm.”
Ling Mo rolled his eyes inwardly. Anyone who could bring their girlfriend to such a place for fun was truly living life on the edge.
He slowly walked towards the corridor with rooms, cautiously gripping his Short Knife. His Psychic Power was instantly concentrated, ready to deploy his Psychic Tentacle to protect himself at any sign of danger.
Although the rooftop revealed nothing but a condom, he couldn’t let his guard down. Ling Mo had survived the initial harrowing days and lived to see today thanks to his meticulous caution.
After pushing open two doors, he found only some abandoned furniture. It seemed the third floor was used as storage.
Ling Mo’s tension eased slightly. It appeared there really were no zombies here…
However, as he opened the third door, a shadow suddenly leaped out from behind an old cabinet, startling Ling Mo!
The shadow’s movements weren’t fast, but its sudden appearance from behind the cabinet was quite intimidating. Ling Mo instinctively stepped back half a pace, and his Psychic Tentacle immediately swept out…
At the same time, another figure emerged from behind the cabinet. These two looked terrifying, even more so than regular zombies.
From head to toe, nearly all their exposed skin was covered in blood, and a powerful stench of decay emanated from their bodies. Their sudden appearance made them seem like two walking cesspools, with their stench so overwhelming that even Ling Mo couldn’t help but wrinkle his nose.
Unlike other zombies, these two didn’t charge at him frantically. Instead, they made threatening gestures but didn’t actually attack.
At first, Ling Mo was indeed startled by the two figures, and he prepared to counterattack. But as soon as his Psychic Tentacle extended, a strange expression appeared on his face.
Seeing Ling Mo standing at the doorway with a Short Knife in his hand, one of the “zombies” let out a low growl and suddenly charged at him.
Ling Mo’s lips curled into a cold smile. Just as the “zombie” was about to reach him, Ling Mo calmly swung his Short Knife, pressing it against the attacker’s throat.
If it were an ordinary zombie, not even a cannon aimed at its head would stop it from advancing. But this “zombie” immediately froze, trembling all over, and its legs went weak.
The blood-stained face twitched suddenly, and a terrified voice stammered, “Spare me, DaLao!”
The other “zombie” was completely stunned by this scene.
They had seen many survivors, but it was the first time they had encountered someone like Ling Mo, who faced zombies without fear and even smiled at them!
If Ling Mo knew what they were thinking, he would probably want to bang his head against the wall.
Was he fearless? Of course not! He was startled at first too!
Although he could handle zombies one-on-one, or even take on ten at once, he still felt a moment of tension when they jumped out to scare him.
Being unafraid of battle doesn’t mean being immune to sudden frights!
“DaLao1!” The “zombie” shivered but didn’t dare to move closer to Ling Mo. Instead, with a trembling voice, he pleaded, “Show mercy! Don’t attack us; we’re not zombies! We’re not zombies!”
Ling Mo didn’t withdraw his Short Knife. He knew these two weren’t zombies but humans disguised as them. Although he hadn’t realized it initially, when he tried to use his Puppet Control Ability on them, the truth became evident.
Their appearance could be disguised, but their Psychic Light Clusters had given them away entirely.
Survivors would do anything to stay alive, but this was the first time Ling Mo had seen anyone go to the extent of turning themselves into human stink bombs.
“Of course, I know you’re human,” Ling Mo muttered. His gaze then turned sharp as he stared at the person in front of him and asked, “What are you doing?”
In truth, Ling Mo wanted to ask why they jumped out to scare him, but he wouldn’t do something that would undermine his own authority, especially since these two were clearly terrified of him. It was better to take advantage of this and extract some information.
