Chapter 92 – Did Your Mouth and Butt Switch Places?
Ling Mo struck a pose that clearly said, “You tell me, or I’ll cut you,” which indeed frightened the person into shivering once more. Panicking, he answered, “We’re just hiding here temporarily…”
“Rubbish.” Ling Mo immediately interrupted impatiently. If they were truly hiding here, there was no need to make themselves look like this.
The person hurriedly explained, nervously, “No, we are hiding here now, but actually, we were… a couple of days ago…”
The tip of the knife pressed against his throat. Just a slight push from Ling Mo could end his life. In the face of life and death, few can remain truly calm, especially someone who already appeared quite timid.
Listening to his incoherent explanation, Ling Mo frowned. His companion, equally anxious, feared this would anger Ling Mo and quickly interrupted, “Stop talking, I’ll explain.”
The person immediately shut his mouth, looking at Ling Mo with pleading eyes.
“Alright, you talk,” Ling Mo said, glancing at the other person.
Despite his face being smeared with blood, it was still clear that he was a dark-skinned young man, probably not older than twenty, clearly a student from X City University. Though he was also scared, he was relatively more composed than his companion and spoke more fluently.
“We just got here two days ago. There’s nowhere else to stay around here except this place… We didn’t know you were coming. Hearing the door open really startled us. But I thought, if someone can open the door, they can’t be a Zombie, probably a Survivor. But we didn’t know what you were planning, so we decided to catch you first and figure it out later…”
As he continued, he grew more uneasy, obviously worried that Ling Mo might kill his companion out of anger.
His companion reacted much more intensely, immediately cursing, “Tang Xiaoxue, did your mouth and butt switch places? Do you even know how to talk? Are you trying to get me killed? DaLao, DaLao!” With his neck pressed by the knife, his body was so stiff he dared not move, looking at Ling Mo with pleading eyes, “Please don’t be angry. We didn’t want to catch you, just wanted to communicate with you…”
Ling Mo found it amusing but could tell they meant no harm. He himself was wary of other Survivors, but he wouldn’t act as impulsively as they did.
Thinking further, he realized that ordinary Survivors might indeed fall for such a trick.
Startled people tend to react slower, and the more timid ones might be paralyzed by fear. When the disguised “Zombies” rushed in, they’d likely surrender without a fight.
It was clear they were cautious. In such situations, some Survivors might react differently: “Screw this, I’m fighting back!” Their combat abilities might suddenly spike, and in a desperate struggle, they could turn the tables on these two.
So, they waited several seconds, thinking Ling Mo’s stillness indicated he belonged to the former group, before one of them tentatively rushed forward.
Too bad Ling Mo wasn’t paralyzed by fear. He quickly regained his composure, waiting with a hint of mischief for them to walk right into his trap.
“Sounds like you do this often?” Ling Mo slowly lowered his Short Knife, asking with interest.
The person let out a long sigh of relief, wiping his forehead with his hand, smearing his face even more, making him look rather ferocious. “Not really! This is our first time, and it went so badly… Ah, sorry,” he quickly corrected himself, clearly wary of Ling Mo, “I didn’t mean it like that…”
“Why are you so scared?” Ling Mo thought this guy was overly timid. Did he really exude some legendary murderous aura? If anyone had that, it was Ye Lian and Xia Na in their Zombie forms. The aura they emitted was the real deal!
But honestly, it wasn’t some mystical aura; it was a kind of presence.
Only those with true intent to kill or Zombies viewing humans as food would have that kind of presence. The look in their eyes would reveal genuine murderous intent.
From the beginning, Ling Mo hadn’t intended to kill. So, seeing this person so terrified, he felt a bit helpless. He even thought self-deprecatingly, had he killed so many people recently that he could emit an intimidating aura without even trying?
Of course, this was just self-mockery. In reality, the reason these two were so wary of Ling Mo was due to his misleading behavior earlier.
The person looked Ling Mo up and down, then seriously said, “Because you’re different from many Survivors. You seem really strong. DaLao, you can face Zombies without flinching. I genuinely respect you for that…”
“He Pengpeng, stop flatter…” Tang Xiaoxue interrupted He Pengpeng with a spit and turned to Ling Mo. “DaLao, we didn’t mean any harm, and we weren’t planning to actually attack you. It’s just…” Tang Xiaoxue showed a hint of helplessness, his tone turning somewhat bitter, “People are unpredictable; we have to be cautious.”
Ling Mo found this somewhat ridiculous. If this had been said by two delicate beauties, it would make sense since their appearance could indeed attract malicious intent from some Survivors. But you two, looking like walking gas bombs, who would have any ill intentions towards you?
Then, a thought struck Ling Mo. Xia Na hadn’t found any medicine yet, and he hadn’t seen any on the first floor either. Could it be…
Realizing this, Ling Mo’s gaze towards the two changed: “The medicine in this hospital, you two have it, don’t you?”
Tang Xiaoxue and He Pengpeng’s faces changed instantly. While He Pengpeng was still in a daze, Tang Xiaoxue quickly pulled him closer, warily eyeing Ling Mo: “What are you planning to do?”
He Pengpeng, snapping back to reality, immediately tried to deny it: “What… what medicine? We don’t know anything about that…”
Ling Mo gave him a look that said “idiot,” then turned to Tang Xiaoxue: “Relax, I won’t take it by force. Actually,” he said, pulling a pack of instant noodles from his backpack and waving it at them, “I can trade with you.”
At the sight of the instant noodles, both Tang Xiaoxue and He Pengpeng showed an expression of desperate longing.
“Food…”
He Pengpeng’s eyes flickered between the instant noodles and Ling Mo’s backpack but ultimately settled on Ling Mo’s Short Knife, suppressing his desire with great effort.
After last night’s events, Ling Mo was well aware that to these Survivors, who were on the brink of starvation, his backpack was a deadly temptation. However, with his strength, Ling Mo wasn’t worried about these two getting greedy.
If they were foolish enough to try to rob him, Ling Mo wouldn’t hesitate to kill them and take the medicine by force.
