Chapter 21 – Simple Children Have More Fun
The doorbell rang abruptly.
Lin Xi’s mind raced. There was a 99.9% chance that the person looking for her on a Saturday was Zhao Xinning.
The remaining 0.1% chance was that it wasn’t Zhao Xinning at all, but the mysterious killer who had previously shot the Cuddle Witch.
“Shi Yu, hide! Quick!” Lin Xi hissed at Shi Yu. “And take those handcuffs and ropes with you!”
If Zhao Xinning saw those things, she would definitely think her only good friend was a pervert.
The ship of their friendship would sink straight to the bottom of the ocean.
Shi Yu rolled her eyes at Lin Xi. “Look how happy you are now that Zhao Xinning is here. Don’t you think our relationship is much closer?”
Lin Xi: “???”
“A minute ago, you were planning to whip me with a lash dipped in chili water. Since when did our relationship get that close?”
“I was doing it to help you recover your memories. It was for your own good.” Shi Yu packed up her props. Before retreating into the bedroom, she shoved a micro-earpiece into Lin Xi’s ear.
Lin Xi didn’t have time to ask questions; she had to hurry and open the door for the angelic Zhao Xinning.
Making Angel-sama wait at the door for too long was simply an unpardonable sin.
Lin Xi opened the door, and sure enough, it was Zhao Xinning.
The morning light fell upon Zhao Xinning, who was dressed in a simple long dress, making her look like an angel descended to earth.
Lin Xi, the gloomy Otaku, instantly felt a sense of purification and healing.
“Good morning, Xi.” Zhao Xinning’s lips curled upward.
That angelic smile gave Lin Xi a burst of energy, sweeping away the gloom from Shi Yu’s earlier threats.
“Morning, Xinning!”
Lin Xi responded with a smile.
On Zhao Xinning’s delicate wrist was a small, exquisite women’s watch. She lifted her hand to check the time and said:
“Xi, it’s about time. Let’s head out.”
“Head out???” Lin Xi looked completely bewildered. “To… where?”
Zhao Xinning looked at Lin Xi in disbelief. “Xi, did you forget?”
“Last Wednesday, we agreed that this Saturday, we’d go check out that amusement park called ‘Adventure Island.’ It’s their opening day, and they’re having a half-off special for pairs.”
Lin Xi had no memories of the previous week, so she naturally had no idea she had made such a promise to Zhao Xinning.
A look of loneliness immediately clouded Zhao Xinning’s face.
Lin Xi cursed herself inwardly. How could she let Angel-sama show such a dejected expression?
“I remember,” Lin Xi said quickly. “Of course I remember.”
“How could I possibly forget such an important promise with you, Xinning?”
“See? Didn’t I wake up early just for this?”
At this moment, Lin Xi was even slightly grateful to Shi Yu. It was thanks to her that she had been chased out of bed.
“Mhm!” Zhao Xinning’s mood instantly brightened, the clouds giving way to sunshine.
She believed Lin Xi. If Lin Xi hadn’t remembered their plans, she would definitely still be sleeping in right now.
“Xi, don’t scare me like that on purpose. I really thought you’d forgotten our promise.”
Lin Xi gave a hollow laugh, relieved that she had managed to bluff her way through. “Xinning, let’s go then.”
Lin Xi had no intention of letting Zhao Xinning come inside to sit, lest Shi Yu be discovered.
“Okay, Xi! Let’s start our day-long date!” Zhao Xinning was incredibly excited, her skirt fluttering as she moved.
“Date???” Lin Xi froze.
Zhao Xinning’s face turned beet red instantly, her heart pounding wildly.
Oh no! How did I let my inner thoughts slip out?!
It’s not time for Xi to know about these feelings that go beyond friendship yet!
Zhao Xinning forced herself to stay calm and said, “What date? You must have misheard.”
“I said, ‘Let’s start our day-long outing.'”
“Sorry, Xinning.” Lin Xi also felt that she must have misheard.
Before closing the door, Lin Xi shouted loudly, “We’re heading out!”
She wanted Shi Yu, who was hiding in the bedroom, to hear her.
“Stop howling! I can hear you! I can hear every single word you and Zhao Xinning say perfectly clearly.”
Shi Yu’s voice came through the micro-earpiece in Lin Xi’s ear.
Lin Xi frowned. She wasn’t about to just let Shi Yu eavesdrop on her like this.
Just as she was about to secretly take off the earpiece, Shi Yu’s voice rang out again.
“If you dare take that earpiece off, just wait for Zhao Xinning to find out about your true nature as a Perverted Witch.”
Dammit!
That bastard Shi Yu, Lin Xi cursed inwardly.
“You must be calling me a ‘perverted witch’ in your head right now. I’ve already noted it down.”
Lin Xi: “…”
“Xi, you look a bit pale. Are you okay?” Zhao Xinning asked with concern.
“I’m fine,” Lin Xi said. “I just ran into a psycho on my way home last night. It was pretty scary.”
“Who the hell are you calling a psycho?!” Shi Yu’s roar erupted through the earpiece.
The noise sent a sharp sting through Lin Xi’s ear. She intentionally lagged a step behind Zhao Xinning as they entered the subway and whispered to the eavesdropping Shi Yu, “I said a psycho. Why are you so quick to take it personally?!”
Shi Yu: “…”
“I’ll deal with you when you get back.”
After getting off the subway and walking for a short while, they arrived at Adventure Island amusement park.
As it was a grand opening, they offered half-price for pairs with full access to the park.
Lin Xi wanted to relax. Between robbing a bank with Shi Yu and joining ZERO… the string of events had left her physically and mentally exhausted.
This was the perfect chance to spend a happy day playing with Zhao Xinning.
“Xi, let’s go in.” Zhao Xinning reached out and took Lin Xi’s hand. “You… don’t mind, do you?”
Lin Xi was secretly overjoyed. She couldn’t have asked for anything better.
Holding hands and being close to Zhao Xinning meant her lifespan was starting to increase.
Lately, Lin Xi had been relying entirely on physical contact with Zhao Xinning and Shi Yu to keep herself alive.
“Perverted Witch, did you induce Zhao Xinning to hold your hand?!” Shi Yu barked. “You really are incorrigible!”
The micro-earpiece tucked into her ear couldn’t possibly have a surveillance function.
What the hell!
Is that pervert Shi Yu actually stalking us?!
With Zhao Xinning there, Lin Xi didn’t look around.
But she was certain that Shi Yu was hiding in some corner where she could see them.
Eavesdropping plus stalking… it was clear who the real pervert was.
“Xinning, let’s go, quick.”
Lin Xi pulled Zhao Xinning’s hand and ran toward one of the pavilions in the amusement park.
She wanted to escape Shi Yu’s surveillance.
Unaware of the situation, Zhao Xinning was pulled so forcefully by Lin Xi that her delicate frame trembled like a swaying blossom.
Xi… she really has changed a lot…
Once they entered the pavilion, Lin Xi realized it was a children’s theme hall.
Inside, children were playing all sorts of games while parents waited on the side.
Lin Xi and Zhao Xinning were neither children nor parents.
The two of them felt a bit awkward suddenly barging in.
“Hahaha,” Shi Yu’s bright laughter rang through the earpiece. “Perverted Witch, you really did pick the right place.”
“However, you’re different from the other kids. I hope you have fun, you mentally challenged child.”
Lin Xi reached for her ear, took off the earpiece, and shoved it into her pocket.
After being mocked like that by Shi Yu, she was determined to have a good time here.
“Xi, do you like children?” Zhao Xinning asked suddenly, her face flushing slightly.
