Chapter 89 – Departure

"Overseas."

Those two words from Lin Haifeng explained everything.

Wen Yu immediately understood.

Human civilization had not collapsed overnight at the beginning of the Apocalypse. The governments of each Country were bound to have remained in contact and exchanged whatever resources they had.

There was nothing strange about Lin Haifeng being able to contact other Country governments.

Kuangliu, however, frowned and asked, "We're relying on them? Then who gets the generator?"

"We do. It's merely a question of what they stand to gain, and we're the ones holding all the cards right now."

Lin Haifeng calmly took a sip of tea, clearly confident that he had everything under control.

"Then it's worth a try. And one more thing…"

Wen Yu raised an eyebrow at Lin Haifeng, drawing a wry smile from him.

"Don't worry. You'll get your share of the rewards."

"Then I have no objections!" Wen Yu declared.

If a group of at least five experts ranked in the top ten of the Sequence could not seize a single Demon Qi Shield Generator, how were they supposed to fight the Demon Race?

Kuangliu, on the other hand, considered the matter for a long time before slowly nodding.

Seeing their reactions, Lin Haifeng smiled.

"Then it's settled!"

After their brief conversation, Lin Haifeng was the first to leave the conference room.

Given his position, there truly was no reason for him to expose himself to danger inside this Treasure Land.

Only Wen Yu and Kuangliu remained in the spacious conference room.

Wen Yu studied Kuangliu for a moment. Kuangliu had gained quite a lot from the battle outside Demon City. Wen Yu could not determine his exact Physical Attribute, but one thing was certain: it had improved by leaps and bounds.

That was what truly troubled Wen Yu.

It was easy to foresee that those with earlier Sequence Numbers, the highest-ranked members of the Sequence, would have a much easier time achieving Promotion than he would.

His Class gave him an enormous advantage when fighting opponents at the same level. Unfortunately, in terms of Promotion speed alone, a Soul Master consumed several times as many resources as an ordinary Class Holder.

Of course, he also accumulated Points at several times the normal rate, so it was hard to say whether that was good or bad.

Kuangliu naturally had no idea what Wen Yu was thinking.

He took a communicator from his Spatial Ring, exchanged a few brief messages, then said to Wen Yu, "Xiao Xue will bring the Magic Crystals over shortly. After that, I'll assign you several capable people to lighten your workload."

Wen Yu nodded.

Kuangliu would have to handle those arrangements. All Wen Yu could do was promise to try his best.

Not long afterward, Xiao Xue and the other Military Super Soldiers entered the conference room.

Wen Yu accepted the thirty Dark Attribute Magic Crystals from Xiao Xue and immediately fed them to the Little Soul Beast.

At the sight, Xing and One-Eye gulped repeatedly. Their mental fluctuations carried a steady stream of complaints such as, "Boss is playing favorites," "Boss doesn't care about us anymore," and "We should form an alliance after all."

Once the Little Soul Beast had finished digesting the Magic Crystals, its Physical Attribute reached a Point value of 248. Kuangliu then spread out a map and quickly explained, "This is a map of the entire Treasure Land. I've divided it down the middle into two hunting zones."

With that, Kuangliu drew a straight line between Demon City and the Outpost.

"Wen Yu will be responsible for the right half, while I'll take the left. Each of you will lead a team of thirty elite personnel, with five teams assigned to each side."

"No. 1, No. 2, No. 5, No. 8, and No. 9, you'll be on the right. Wen Yu will be responsible for your safety and will take command of you when necessary. The rest of you are with me. Any questions?"

"No, Sir!"

The ten Military Super Soldiers immediately saluted and answered in unison.

"Good. Move out immediately."

With the matter settled cleanly and decisively, Wen Yu and Kuangliu walked out of the conference room side by side.

"Oh, right. This is for you."

Kuangliu took out a silver-white communicator and handed it to Wen Yu.

"It's already tuned to the right channel. Someone will notify you whenever a high-level Demonic Creature appears or one of the teams runs into danger. Though I doubt they'd be that stupid. We have informants and scouts throughout the Treasure Land, after all."

Wen Yu nodded and accepted the communicator. After saying goodbye to Kuangliu, he headed outside.

He first returned to the small place where he was temporarily staying and rested for a while.

A few hours later, Wen Yu left again. Riding Xing, he set off toward Demon City.

Along the way, Wen Yu fiddled with the communicator and picked up quite a bit of information.

Following Kuangliu's arrangements, the Military's Super Soldier teams had already deployed. They were currently waiting in the center of the Treasure Land for further orders.

According to the scouts on the front line, Demon City still showed no major activity. The only change was that more and more Demonic Creature forces were gathering inside. The streets were packed with Bipedal Lizard creatures, and even the rooftops were crawling with them.

Yet none had left the city. Perhaps they were afraid of the humans' firearms, or perhaps there was some other reason.

However, in a video sent back by the frontline intelligence operatives, Wen Yu spotted the familiar Black-skinned Demonic Creature. It was sitting atop the head of an enormous Bipedal Lizard and chatting with a bizarrely shaped Demon Seed.

Meanwhile, the black vortex in the center of Demon City continued spewing out a seemingly endless flood of Bipedal Lizard creatures.

"So basically, absolutely nothing is happening right now?"

"Well… you're not wrong," Kuangliu's voice replied through the communicator.

Wen Yu took a deep breath and urged Xing to pick up the pace.

Inside Demon City, the Demon Seed watched the drones circling outside, a vicious glint flashing through its eyes.

"These wretches…"

The murderous intent in its voice made the Black-skinned Demonic Creature beside it shudder.

"Have you found a way to deal with those exploding things?"

At the Demon Seed's question, the Black-skinned Demonic Creature shook its head slightly.

After a long silence, the Demon Seed slowly spoke.

"This is precisely why your species is so inferior. You're physically weak, and you don't even have brains!"

Anger flickered through the Black-skinned Demonic Creature's eyes before it lowered its head and answered meekly, "You are correct, my lord…"

The Demon Seed stared expressionlessly at the Black-skinned Demonic Creature, then said, "You. Go shut down the Demon Qi Matrix."

The Black-skinned Demonic Creature was stunned.

"But, my lord…"

Before it could finish, the Demon Seed cut it off.

"As long as it isn't attacked, no one outside will be able to tell whether the Demon Qi Matrix is active. Do as I say!"

With that, the Demon Seed immediately released a pulse of psychic energy.

The vast horde of Bipedal Lizard creatures throughout Demon City sprang into motion. Those below Level 4 rapidly crawled out of the city, while the Level 4 and Level 5 specimens remained motionless inside!

A ruthless glint flashed through the Demon Seed's eyes at the sight.

"You want Point rewards, don't you? There are plenty waiting for you! Just don't gorge yourselves to death!"

The Demon Seed then activated a Skill.

Fog of War (Rank C, Active Ability): Creates a large, stationary area shrouded in fog that is immune to most visual detection methods!

As the fog slowly engulfed more than half of Demon City, the distant drones immediately became useless.
