Chapter 115 – Persuasion

“One man and two women…”

The shadowy figure muttered to himself, then glanced at the girl in his arms.

The girl was wide-eyed, staring at him in terror.

“Don’t be afraid…” the shadow whispered in her ear. With a flick of his wrist, a cold glint appeared in his palm. Before he finished speaking, the glint had already slashed the girl’s throat.

Her pupils contracted instantly. Her chest heaved a few times, and she convulsed before going limp in his arms.

Just as he was slowly placing the girl’s body on the ground, a cold voice suddenly rang out: “Don’t move.”

The shadow’s movements froze. He remained bent over, just about to rise, gripping the cold glint in his hand tightly.

The owner of the voice was Ling Mo, who was now watching the shadowy figure cautiously. This figure had suddenly appeared in the library.

The shadow figure probably never expected that despite his careful movements, which made almost no sound, the moment he opened the door, Xia Na and Ye Lian, who had been pretending to sleep with their eyes closed, would simultaneously open their eyes and sharply look towards the Utility Room.

Though the sound of the door opening was faint, in the silence of the library, it was clearly heard by the two advanced female zombies.

While the man was interrogating the girl, Ling Mo had silently grabbed his short knife and slowly crawled up from the ground, his eyes fixed on the densely packed bookshelves. Using the shadows as cover, he quietly approached the Utility Room.

Halfway there, he spotted the man and the girl he had taken hostage.

Unfortunately, by the time he arrived, the girl had already had her throat slit.

“Who are you?” Ling Mo held his short knife defensively in front of him, ready for both attack and defense.

The fact that this person had managed to enter silently from outside proved he had some skills. Otherwise, how could he have climbed to the second floor with his bare hands? During the daytime inspection, Ling Mo had already noticed that there was no back door, otherwise, he would have taken precautions.

“Who are you?”

The shadow’s voice sounded flippant, carrying a tone that made Ling Mo feel very uncomfortable. In the moonlight, Ling Mo could vaguely see that the man’s hair was long, almost covering his shoulders.

Ling Mo frowned immediately. He had a vague sense that this look was familiar, but he couldn’t quite remember who this person was.

At that moment, two more figures appeared behind Ling Mo; it was Ye Lian and Xia Na. The three of them formed a fan shape, completely blocking the shadow’s escape route.

“I told you not to move.” Ling Mo frowned and shouted sternly.

“What are you doing here?” Ling Mo had no intention of making small talk. This man had snuck in after nightfall and killed a girl; he clearly had ill intentions.

Ling Mo also understood that the girl must have told Wei Junyan everything that had happened before she died. Li Danyang was probably one of Wei Junyan’s men, and Ling Mo was curious to see how he would handle the situation.

Although Wei Junyan seemed dangerous, Ling Mo believed he had the upper hand in terms of strength.

“Are Li Danyang and his team really all dead?” Wei Junyan asked. But Ling Mo could tell from his casual tone that he didn’t really care whether they were dead or not.

Ling Mo kept his eyes on Wei Junyan’s every move. “Yes, they are dead. They got greedy and deserved it.”

Wei Junyan wasn’t surprised by this outcome but seemed quite interested in Ling Mo. “You must be pretty strong then. Li Danyang had quite a few people under him. You killed them all?”

For some reason, when Wei Junyan asked this, Ling Mo felt a chill run down his spine. This man really gave off an unsettling vibe.

“By the way, since you killed Li Danyang, you must have his supplies now? … Don’t worry, I’m not here to take them. I want to ask if you’d be willing to join my base,” Wei Junyan suddenly said.

A base? Ling Mo had no intention of joining, but before he could refuse, Wei Junyan continued, “Since you’re all from X City University, you must know the current situation at the school. No food, lack of water, everyone just waiting to die. But I’ve been busy these past few days. My team has set up a base. Once we gather all the supplies, we’ll be self-sufficient in the base…”

So that’s his game… Ling Mo sneered inwardly. Calling it a base was just a way to lure these desperate survivors with false hopes.

Creating a self-sufficient base wasn’t that simple. To Ling Mo, Wei Junyan’s real plan was likely to gather all the supplies from the survivors and use them for the benefit of a select few. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be provoking infighting among the survivors. Exchanging food for shares seemed fair on the surface, but it was actually a very sinister tactic.

By this point, Ling Mo had lost all interest in Wei Junyan and interrupted him coldly, “No thanks. I don’t like being controlled. If you’re done talking, you’d better leave. This is my territory now, not a place you can come and go as you please.”
